Book Stratigraphy and Paleontology of the Cloverly Formation Lower Cretaceous of the Bighorn Basin Area Wyoming and Montana

Download or read book Stratigraphy and Paleontology of the Cloverly Formation Lower Cretaceous of the Bighorn Basin Area Wyoming and Montana written by John H. Ostrom and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2020-03-17 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fiftieth anniversary edition of a landmark publication showcasing prehistoric North American landscapes and ecosystems, from a celebrated paleontologist at Yale University's Peabody Museum The fiftieth anniversary edition of John H. Ostrom's Stratigraphy and Paleontology of the Cloverly Formation revisits his groundbreaking work pinpointing the age of the continental sequence of the Bighorn Basin area in Wyoming and Montana. The Cloverly Formation is important for understanding the development of North American terrestrial landscapes and prehistoric ecosystems, and current investigations are reinterpreting the age of the Formation with new evidence and data. The reissue of Ostrom's original benchmark research offers contemporary relevance for researchers and students today.

Book Regional Stratigraphy of North America

Download or read book Regional Stratigraphy of North America written by W.J. Frazier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 735 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An early reviewer of this book stated that he had difficulty assessing its marketability because it "falls between the cracks" of geological literature. We have designed this book to meet a need of modem geology: namely, a single source providing both detailed and synoptic stratigraphy of the various regions of North America, through geological time. Shortly after beginning work on such a book, we realized why it had not yet been written: it required six years of effort, assimilation of an incredible amount of information, and two years' additional work to cut the volume down to publishable size. Further, by the time the final chapter was written, the fIrst few were already out of date. Nevertheless, the book lies in front of you. It is intended to serve several purposes. As a textbook, it will serve the following courses: • Regional stratigraphy • Sedimentary tectonics • Regional tectonics • Advanced historical geology • Survey-level paleontology Obviously, not all portions of the book are relevant to all of the above courses. We assume the reader will retain this book after the particular course is done, and will use it as a reference book. Hopefully, others will obtain the book solely for reference purposes. We believe it will be especially useful for the working geologist or academic geologist seeking generalized and some moderately detailed information about a region or geological time interval which is unfamiliar.

Book Cretaceous Tertiary High latitude Palaeoenvironments

Download or read book Cretaceous Tertiary High latitude Palaeoenvironments written by Jane E. Francis and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2006 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High-latitude settings are sensitive to climatically driven palaeoenvironmental change and the resultant biotic response. Climate change through the peak interval of Cretaceous warmth, Late Cretaceous cooling, onset and expansion of the Antarctic ice sheet, and subsequently the variability of Neogene glaciation, are all recorded within the sedimentary and volcanic successions exposed within the James Ross Basin, Antarctica. This site provides the longest onshore record of Cretaceous-Tertiary sedimentary and volcanic rocks in Antarctica and is a key reference section for Cretaceous-Tertiary global change. The sedimentary succession is richly fossiliferous, yielding diverse invertebrate, vertebrate and plant fossil assemblages, allowing the reconstruction of both terrestrial and marine systems. The papers within this volume provide an overview of recent advances in the understanding of palaeoenvironmental change spanning the mid-Cretaceous to the Neogene of the James Ross Basin and related biotic change, and will be of interest to many working on Cretaceous and Tertiary palaeoenvironmental change.
