Book excerpt: The area studied in this report covers the valley of the Pine River in the Peace River district of north-east British Columbia. Introductory sections review the area's geography, physiography, and glacial geology. This is followed by description of the lithology & stratigraphy of the Middle Triassic to Upper Cretaceous strata found in the area. The stratigraphy is treated in two parts: an account of the outcrops, and an account of the drilled sections in the subsurface. This is followed by a chapter on structural geology of the outer & inner foothills, the Commotion Structure (or Boulder Creek Dome) in the outer foothills, folds & faults, and tectonics. The final chapter discusses the potential of the area for oil & gas deposits, summarizes investigations of seven exploratory wells, and briefly reviews the area's coal reserves. Appendices include an analysis of parallel fold forms found in the valley, an examination & interpretation of the Peace River structures of the outer foothills, descriptions of drill cores & cuttings, and an index.
