Book Molecular Dynamics Study of Creep Deformation in Nickel based Superalloy

This book was released on 2019 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present study employs molecular dynamics simulations of Ni-based superalloy to investigate the creep behavior under uniaxial compression test. Dislocation dynamics is analyzed for the nickel-based single crystal superalloy with the presence of void and with varying the distribution of gamma-prime phase The results show that multiple-void systems are more prone to yield than single-void systems and single-void systems are more prone to yield than the system without void. From the simulations, it has been determined that the creep mechanism in Ni/Ni3Al is subject to change on the applied stress depending on the distribution of gamma-prime phases change. Dislocation behavior is also observed in addition to the time evolution of dislocation nucleation and growth to quantify the propensity and mechanism of creep in nickel-based single crystal superalloy. The studies confirmed that dislocation length prior to plastic deformation decreased as the number of voids increased. In addition, the deformation behavior for fine-grained nickel-based polycrystalline superalloy upon grain size variation is also investigated. Our findings show that both the movement mechanisms of the grains and grain boundaries and the relationship between grain size and yield strength are highly affected by the grain size of the materials. All the databases have then been classified to accurately predict the target class vi machine learning using the data mining tool WEKA.

Book Sensitivity of the Creep Rupture Properties of Nickel Base Superalloy Sheet to Sharp Edge Notches in the Temperature Range of 1000 Deg 1400 Deg F

This book was released on 1969 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigations are now in progress to evaluate the severe time- dependent, edge-notch sensitivity known to occur in thin sheet nickel-base superalloys exposed under stress at 1000 and 1200F. Studies of Rend 41, Waspaloy and Inconel 718, over a wide range of heat-treated conditions, has served to define the scope of this problem in 0. 026-inch thick sheet. In addition, exploratory data have been obtained on the influence of notch acuity and sheet thickness on the notch sensitivity. Both smooth and edge-notched specimens fractured by the initiation and growth of intergranular cracks, followed by abrupt transgranular fracture due to the increase in stress caused by creep cracking. Analysis of these processes showed that the degree of notch sensitivity was strongly dependent upon the effect of the notches on the time required for the initiation of the creep crack and the early stages of its growth. There were some differences among alloys and within an alloy with heat treatment and test temperature. The notch sensitivity was not exhibited for the testing time periods considered when sheet thickness was increased from 0.026- to 0.050-inch. This, together with other considerations, suggests that the stress and strain state is a major factor. Until this is understood, however, it is not possible to correlate notch sensitive behavior with precise microstructural features or mechanical properties.

Book Effects of Microstructural Parameters on Creep of Nickel Base Superalloy Single Crystals

Download or read book Effects of Microstructural Parameters on Creep of Nickel Base Superalloy Single Crystals written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-05-22 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microstructure-sensitive creep models have been developed for Ni-base superalloy single crystals. Creep rupture testing was conducted on fourteen single crystal alloys at two applied stress levels at each of two temperatures, 982 and 1093 C. The variation in creep lives among the different alloys could be explained with regression models containing relatively few microstructural parameters. At 982 C, gamma-gamma prime lattice mismatch, gamma prime volume fraction, and initial gamma prime size were statistically significant in explaining the creep rupture lives. At 1093 C, only lattice mismatch and gamma prime volume fraction were significant. These models could explain from 84 to 94 percent of the variation in creep lives, depending on test condition. Longer creep lives were associated with alloys having more negative lattice mismatch, lower gamma prime volume fractions, and finer gamma prime sizes. The gamma-gamma prime lattice mismatch exhibited the strongest influence of all the microstructural parameters at both temperatures. Although a majority of the alloys in this study were stable with respect to topologically close packed (TCP) phases, it appeared that up to approximately 2 vol% TCP phase did not affect the 1093 C creep lives under applied stresses that produced lives of approximately 200 to 300 h. In contrast, TCP phase contents of approximately 2 vol% were detrimental at lower applied stresses where creep lives were longer. A regression model was also developed for the as-heat treated initial gamma prime size; this model showed that gamma prime solvus temperature, gamma-gamma prime lattice mismatch, and bulk Re content were all statistically significant. Book excerpt: This book covers virtually all technical aspects related to the selection, processing, use, and analysis of superalloys. The text of this new second edition has been completely revised and expanded with many new figures and tables added. In developing this new edition, the focus has been on providing comprehensive and practical coverage of superalloys technology. Some highlights include the most complete and up-to-date presentation available on alloy melting. Coverage of alloy selection provides many tips and guidelines that the reader can use in identifying an appropriate alloy for a specific application. The relation of properties and microstructure is covered in more detail than in previous books.

Book Modeling Long term Creep Performance for Welded Nickel base Superalloy Structures for Power Generation Systems

Download or read book Modeling Long term Creep Performance for Welded Nickel base Superalloy Structures for Power Generation Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report here a constitutive model for predicting long-term creep strain evolution in' strengthened Ni-base superalloys. Dislocation climb-bypassing', typical in intermediate' volume fraction (~20%) alloys, is considered as the primary deformation mechanism. Dislocation shearing' to anti-phase boundary (APB) faults and diffusional creep are also considered for high-stress and high-temperature low-stress conditions, respectively. Additional damage mechanism is taken into account for rapid increase in tertiary creep strain. The model has been applied to Alloy 282, and calibrated in a temperature range of 1375-1450°F, and stress range of 15-45ksi. The model parameters and a MATLAB code are provided. This report is prepared by Monica Soare and Chen Shen at GE Global Research. Technical discussions with Dr. Vito Cedro are greatly appreciated. This work was supported by DOE program DE-FE0005859.
