Book Modified 9Cr 1Mo Steel for Advanced Steam Generator Applications

Download or read book Modified 9Cr 1Mo Steel for Advanced Steam Generator Applications written by Philip Maziasz and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are reported from several types of mechanical property tests conducted on a number of commercial heats of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel. Data from long term creep-rupture tests conducted on base and weldment material were compared with an analytical model which has been shown to give good agreement between measured and predicted values. Weldment material had somewhat inferior creep-rupture strength in comparison to base material due to a soft zone at the edge of the HAZ. Data are presented from elevated temperature tensile and creep-rupture tests conducted n material thermally aged for periods of up to 75,000 h (8.6 years). Some reduction in strength was shown to occur in comparison to unaged material. Models were developed for predicting the reduction in short term elevated temperature tensile and yield strength for material thermally aged in the temperature range of 482 to 704°C. Results from Charpy impact tests conducted on material thermally aged at 538°C for periods of up to 75,000 h showed an increase in the ductile-brittle transition temperature. Finally, results from transmission electron microscopy studies were presented to explain changes in mechanical properties due to thermal aging. These observations showed that Laves phase precipitation and recovery occurs on prolonged exposure of this alloy in this temperature range.

Book Creep fatigue Criteria and Inelastic Behavior of Modified 9Cr 1Mo Steel at Elevated Temperatures Final Report

Download or read book Creep fatigue Criteria and Inelastic Behavior of Modified 9Cr 1Mo Steel at Elevated Temperatures Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ever increasing demand for safety requires that stringent and conservative methodology be developed for design and analysis of reactor components. At present modified 9Cr-1Mo steel is a candidate material for construction of steam generators in fast breeder reactors. Therefore high-temperature material properties and extensive insight into deformation behavior and creep-fatigue life are required to develop design guidelines for use of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel in actual plant components. However, existing information on creep-fatigue and deformation response of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel is insufficient, and further experimental and modeling efforts are needed. A joint effort between the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) in the United States and the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) in Japan was started in 1991 to investigate the inelastic behavior of and to develop creep-fatigue criteria for modified 9Cr-1Mo steel at elevated temperatures. The current program focuses on uniaxial and biaxial fatigue, creep, and creep-fatigue tests. Results of this effort are presented in this report. Section 2 introduces the test material and experimental arrangement. Uniaxial exploratory deformation tests and unified constitutive equations for inelastic analysis of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel are presented in Sections 3 and 4, respectively. Axial fatigue and creep-fatigue test results are discussed in Section 5. Section 6 is devoted to constant stress creep tests. Biaxial fatigue and creep-fatigue tests are described in Section 7. Progress in creep-fatigue life evaluation is reported in Section 8.

Book Creep Properties of Modified 9 Cr 1 Mo Steel

Download or read book Creep Properties of Modified 9 Cr 1 Mo Steel written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creep properties of modified 9 Cr-1 Mo steel, an alloy significantly improved in elevated-temperature strength over 2 1/4 Cr-1 Mo and other similar alloys, are presented here. Data are primarily on material in the normalized and tempered condition. Effects of variables such as isothermal annealing treatment, cold work, normalizing temperature, tempering temperature, notch, and biaxial stress state have also been examined. Data analysis and comparisons have shown that modified 9 Cr-1 Mo alloy is very insensitive in response to several material variables, heat treatments, and specimen design variables.

Book The Influence of Thermal Aging on the Microstructure and Fatigue Properties of Modified 9Cr 1Mo Steel

Download or read book The Influence of Thermal Aging on the Microstructure and Fatigue Properties of Modified 9Cr 1Mo Steel written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of elevated-temperature low cycle fatigue and creep-fatigue tests are for one heat of modified 9Cr-1Mo steel in the normalized and tempered condition, after pre-aging 50,000 h at 538 and 593C, and after pre-aging for 75,000 h at 538C. These data show that pre-aging reduces the low cycle fatigue and creepfatigue lives in comparison to unaged material. The magnitude of these reductions are discussed along with the impact of pre-aging on the creep-fatigue damage diagrams. The effect of environment on creep-fatigue life of unaged modified 9Cr-1Mo steels is also addressed. Transmission electron microscopy explains changes in mechanical properties due to thermal aging. In the unaged alloy, TEM shows that dynamic recovery/recrystallization is occurring after significant strain-induced dislocation hardening around a stationary and stable array of as-tempered carbides during creep-fatigue. In contrast creep-fatigue testing of the pre-aged alloy produced a much coarser cellular subgrain structure and dislocation recovery without recrystallization. Aging causes as-tempered carbide dissolution and/or reprecipitation together with additional precipitation of Laves (Fe2Mo) phase, which removes some of the precipitate-strengthening effects, and depletes solid-solution hardening effects on the dislocation networks and subgrain boundary structures.

Book Characterization of Creep Degradation of Modified 9Cr 1Mo Steel Using Magnetic Measurement

Download or read book Characterization of Creep Degradation of Modified 9Cr 1Mo Steel Using Magnetic Measurement written by Lin Zhu and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microstructure evolution during the creep of a modified 9Cr-1Mo heat-resistant steel was characterized by a nondestructive method of magnetic hysteresis loop (MHL) technique at 893 K (620Degree C). Two parameters of coercivity and remanence were introduced to evaluate the magnetic properties of interrupted crept specimens. Experimental results suggested that both the parameters were significantly sensitive to the microstructures, such as dislocations, precipitates, and microcracks. During the primary and secondary creep stage, the coercivity and remanence increased with creep time, which was mainly attributed to the increase in pinned dislocations and number density of precipitates. However, because of the coarsening of M 23 C 6 carbides and presence of a demagnetizing field induced by the nonmagnetic precipitates and microcracks, the coercivity and remanence decreased during the tertiary creep stage. It suggested that the MHL technique has great potential to evaluate the microstructure evolution during creep degradation of heat-resistant steels.

Book Irradiation Creep Behavior of the Fusion Heats of HT9 and Modified 9Cr 1 Mo Steels

Download or read book Irradiation Creep Behavior of the Fusion Heats of HT9 and Modified 9Cr 1 Mo Steels written by Raymond J. Puigh and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In-reactor creep data on the fusion heats of HT9 and a modified 9Cr-1Mo steel have been obtained from the irradiation of pressurized tube specimens in the FFTF reactor. These irradiations were conducted on specimens that reached approximately 50 dpa at 400 to 540°C and that used hoop stresses ranging from 0 to 200 MPa. The creep behavior of these two alloys was found to be similar to and consistent with creep data on related alloys irradiated in either EBR-II or the Fast Flux Test Facility (FFTF). A correlation describing the irradiation-induced creep component of deformation has been developed and compared with the available data.
