Book Regulation and Taxation of Commercial Banks During the International Debt Crisis

Download or read book Regulation and Taxation of Commercial Banks During the International Debt Crisis written by Jonathan Hay and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1991 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The debt crisis burst upon the world's attention in the summer of 1982 and has generated a great deal of discussion and debate. Most attention has been focused on schemes to solve the crisis, justifications for various forms of debt relief and reduction, and defenses of creditor positions. There has been substantial progress on a number of fronts in the debt crisis. One such example has been the substantial progress made in clarifying and refining the tax and regulatory environments for creditor banks in their own countries. The authors have organized the book with the summary material in the beginning: descriptions of the debt reduction operations and the responses of the commercial banks to them, with particular attention to the influences of the tax and regulatory environments faced in each jurisdiction. The latter part presents much more detail of each creditor country's regulations and is intended to serve as a reference. This book should be a valuable resource for further research and analysis of the debt crisis and the role played by the regulatory environment.

Book Country Risk Analysis

Download or read book Country Risk Analysis written by Ronald L. Solberg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-09-11 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Country-Risk Analysis is a comprehensive, practical guide to the management of international risk and cross-border lending. The last fifteen years of international commercial bank lending have witnessed a classical boom-and-bust cycle. Yet it is only recently that a formalized approach to country risk assessment has been implemented in the major international banks. Ron Solberg's volume provides a state-of-the-art review of the country risk techniques that have evolved in the context of dramatic changes in developing countries' debt service capacity and in international lending itself. It deals comprehensively with sovereign credit decision making, portfolio management, lending behaviour and financial innovations.

Book External Debt Management

Download or read book External Debt Management written by Thomas Martin Klein and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: World Bank Technical Paper 245. This document was designed primarily for staff of newly established debt management institutions within governments that are launching borrowing programs, and discusses the entire range of external debt management. Topics include the organizational procedures for negotiating foreign loans and credits, the control and coordination of borrowing decisions, risk management, the administration of new loans, and external debt accounting and statistics. Basic accounting principles are reviewed and the use of computers explored. The authors stress that the government unit with responsibility for meeting future debt service obligations should also play a major role in decisions regarding foreign borrowing. Reporting statistics on external debt is a crucial part of a country's relationship with the World Bank and other donors. The Bank has formal requirements for debt reporting by member nations and accurate accounting is a prerequisite to having loans considered by the Bank's Executive Board. This book is an essential reference for training and technical assistance programs in asset and liability mangement.
