Book excerpt: A lot of students ask me how they can take their improvisation skills to the next level and move beyond pentatonic scales and into modes and arpeggios. My response is to tell them not to abandon pentatonic scales in favor of modes and other soloing devices, but to use them as a springboard and a solid foundation from which to expand their harmonic awareness. If you play rock, blues and even jazz, you’ll be using pentatonic scales for the rest of your life, so there’s no need to discard them! In this book, we’ll be using the much-loved minor pentatonic scale as the basis for learning and having a quick way to access the modes of the major scale, as well as the basic seventh chord arpeggios. This means that when you go to improvise, you'll have a vast array of options with which to go beyond pentatonic soloing. Work through this book daily and I guarantee you a smooth and painless transition from pentatonics to incorporating modes and arpeggios into your playing.

  • Pages : 98 pages

Download or read book Chord Creative written by Rick Payne and published by Rick Payne. This book was released on 2020-03-07 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I've been playing and teaching guitar for many years, and I'm still amazed by the inspiration you can get just by placing your fingers on the fretboard in sometimes random ways. You can pick or strum a chord, change your fingers around, take one off, or put one down, and "hey presto!" some wonderful sound leaps out of your box with strings. I'm not saying playing some chords are always easy, and it can sometimes feel like an assault course for the fingers, but stick with it and reap the rewards. When I'm teaching I'll often introduce a novice player to an easy to play chord with an exotic sound, and find they're quickly hooked and inspired to learn more. In this course I want to share some of the many ways you can get creative with chords and hopefully inspire you to experiment with them in your own learning and styles of playing; write songs, or simply sit there and chill out! The chords can be strummed or picked, and I'll give you some of my interpretations on the way. I don't want to get too technical or bogged down with 'chord chemistry' as they say, think of them as ideas to play around with - just a few of the many possibilities. If you're new to playing most shapes can be both a way to inspire and also to exercise those fingers!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creative Collaboration in Teaching focuses on the question of how best to facilitate creative collaboration among students in the classroom setting—with a focus on music composition and from the perspective of social-cultural psychology. This book is comprehensive, cutting-edge and scholarly in its approach. Marcelo Giglio’s attention to music and creativity is detailed enough to satisfy any researcher, educator or teacher educator; but at the same time, his research approach, classroom observations and overriding recommendations can be easily applied to a wide range of subject areas. Giglio combines a rigorous review of the relevant literatures on creativity and social interactions with the reporting and analysis of his own original data across the world, and then goes on to support this important work with detailed descriptions of classroom episodes—student-to-student and teacher-to-student interactions. By combining these three elements, this book offers socio-creative and pedagogical models for education in practice as well as teacher education and research.
