Book Creation Stories

Download or read book Creation Stories written by Alan McGee and published by Pan Macmillan. This book was released on 2013-11-07 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Essential reading for anyone interested in the heady, vulgar, marvellous miasma of British music and culture in the nineties' – Irving Welsh 'A true believer in the power of music and more importantly a believer in the people that make music. He gave me and many more like me a chance to change my life' – Noel Gallagher Alan McGee's Creation Stories is a star-studded, outrageous, funny and anarchic account of the record label he set up and the bands that defined an era, including Primal Scream and Oasis. A charismatic Glaswegian who partied just as hard as any of the acts on his notoriously hedonistic label, Alan McGee became an infamous character in the world of music in the nineties. In Creation Stories he tells his story in depth for the first time, from leaving school at sixteen to setting up the Living Room club in London which showcased many emerging indie bands, from managing the Jesus and Mary Chain to co-founding Creation when he was only twenty-three. His label brought us acts like My Bloody Valentine, House of Love, Ride and, of course, Primal Scream. Embracing acid house, Alan decamped to Manchester and hung out at the Hacienda. His drug-induced breakdown, when it came, was dramatic. But as he climbed back to sobriety, he oversaw Oasis's rise to become one of the biggest bands in the world. Alan himself becoming one of the figureheads of Britpop. Having sold the label to Sony to stave off bankruptcy, he became disenchanted with the increasingly corporate ethos and left in 1999. Since then he's continued to be an influential figure in the music industry, managing the Libertines and setting up a new label, 359 Music, with Cherry Red. 'Studded with diamond anecdotes . . . From mixing sound for My Bloody Valentine on mushrooms, via driving motorists off the road by commissioning billboard posters of Kevin Rowland flashing his pants, to escorting Carl Barat to A&E with one eyeball hanging out of its socket, the book bursts with tall-but-true tales.' – NME

Book A Fabulous Creation

Download or read book A Fabulous Creation written by David Hepworth and published by Random House. This book was released on 2019-03-21 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: _________ ‘Hepworth’s knowledge and understanding of rock history is prodigious ... [a] hugely entertaining study of the LP’s golden age’ The Times _________ The era of the LP began in 1967, with ‘Sgt Pepper’; The Beatles didn’t just collect together a bunch of songs, they Made An Album. Henceforth, everybody else wanted to Make An Album. The end came only fifteen years later, coinciding with the release of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’. By then the Walkman had taken music out of the home and into the streets and the record business had begun trying to reverse-engineer the creative process in order to make big money. Nobody would play music or listen to it in quite the same way ever again. It was a short but transformative time. Musicians became ‘artists’ and we, the people, patrons of the arts. The LP itself had been a mark of sophistication, a measure of wealth, an instrument of education, a poster saying things you dare not say yourself, a means of attracting the opposite sex, and, for many, the single most desirable object in their lives. This is the story of that time; it takes us from recording studios where musicians were doing things that had never been done before to the sparsely furnished apartments where their efforts would be received like visitations from a higher power. This is the story of how LPs saved our lives.

Whether Moses could have invented the Doctrine he taught concerning the Creation. If the history of the constitution of the world, on which Moses laid the foundation of his law, were not derived from the authentic source to which it pretends, there are three several ways in which its appearance may be accounted for: it must either have been devised by himself, as the most clear and rational; or, secondly, borrowed by him from the Egyptians, and embodied in his own legislative code; or, lastly, must have been adopted and reduced into form from the generally prevailing opinions of his own nation. It will be proper, therefore, to consider attentively each of these possible explanations; especially as none of them exhibit, at first sight, that appearance of improbability, which we shall find, on inquiry, belonging to them all. - - 3 I have already admitted the likelihood, that Moses, considered as a mere political legislator, should be anxious to impress upon his infant people .the belief of a Creator, whose omnipotence formed and whose providence maintains the universe, supposing him convinced of it himself. But it may justly be doubted whether the resources of his own, or of any human reason, unassisted by traditional history originally derived from revelation, could ever have furnished Moses with that distinct proposition which first arrests our attention in the opening of the book of Genesis: "In the beginning God created the "heaven and the earth." It may indeed appear probable to those, who, from the fortune of their birth and education, have been accustomed to draw the habitual inference of a Creator from his visible works, that a declaration equivalent to that of Moses, would be the spontaneous result of a reasonable and...

Book Enterprise Content Management Records Management and Information Culture Amidst E Government Development

Download or read book Enterprise Content Management Records Management and Information Culture Amidst E Government Development written by Proscovia Svärd and published by Chandos Publishing. This book was released on 2017-04-13 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book identifies key factors necessary for a well-functioning information infrastructure and explores how information culture impacts the management of public information, stressing the need for a proactive and holistic information management approach amidst e-Government development. In an effort to deal with an organization's scattered information resources, Enterprise Content Management, Records Management and Information Culture Amidst E-Government Development investigates the key differences between Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and Records Management (RM), the impact of e-Government development on information management and the role of information in enhancing accountability and transparency of government institutions. The book hence identifies factors that contribute to a well-functioning information infrastructure and further explores how information culture impacts the management of public information. It highlights the Records Continuum Model (RCM) thinking as a more progressive way of managing digital information in an era of pluralization of government information. It also emphasizes the need for information/records management skills amidst e-Government development. Ideas about records, information, and content management have fundamentally changed and developed because of increasing digitalization. Though not fully harmonized, these new ideas commonly stress and underpin the need for a proactive and holistic information management approach. The proactive approach entails planning for the management of the entire information continuum before the information is created. For private enterprises and government institutions endeavoring to meet new information demands from customers, citizens and the society at large, such an approach is a prerequisite for accomplishing their missions. It could be argued that information is and has always been essential to all human activities and we are witnessing a transformation of the information landscape. Presents research with broad application based on archives and information science, but relevant for information systems, records management, information culture, and e-government Examines the differences between Enterprise Content Management and Records Management Bridges a gap between the proponents of Enterprise Content Management and information professionals, such as records managers and archivists
