Book Careers in Green Energy

Download or read book Careers in Green Energy written by Institute for Career Research and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-01-26 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FINDING A NEW JOB, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS a career change, can be tough. One way to increase your odds is to look for opportunities in green energy. It is one of the fastest growing, most innovative sectors of the economy. After years of hype and false starts, the shift to green power has begun to accelerate at a pace that is far beyond the predictions of even the most experienced experts. Wind farms with their huge towers dotting rangelands and hillsides are no longer a novel sight. Solar panels are covering more than homes. They are now blanketing everything from parking lots to airports. The increased usage has driven down the price of energy dramatically, making it competitive with fossil fuels and even natural gas.The green energy industry has been boosted by big subsidies on wind and solar power and general backing by the federal government since the turn of the 21st century. While federal subsidies are being pulled back, states and local governments are stepping up to push the industry forward. For example, Illinois has new requirements and incentives that are expected to produce dozens of solar farms to feed the state's electric grids. In California, all new homes must be built with solar panels starting in the year 2020.If you are physically fit, have a knack for working with your hands, are not afraid of heights or bad weather, green energy could be the answer to your career choice. In addition to a future you can depend on, you will be rewarded with knowing you are contributing to a cleaner environment and helping reduce the dangers of climate change.

Book Daylighting Pathways to Good Jobs in California s Solar Industry

Download or read book Daylighting Pathways to Good Jobs in California s Solar Industry written by Neha Bazaj and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper identifies the opportunities for, and challenges to, creating good quality jobs for socioeconomically disadvantaged workers through mid-size solar photovoltaic projects in California. Recent policy proposals in the United States suggest that clean energy investments can address both climate change and economic inequality, but existing research calls those claims into question. This paper elaborates on the history of union organizing, project labor agreements and prevailing wage law in the solar photovoltaic industry in California, providing some insight into the opportunities for using these tools to shape job quality in the mid-size solar photovoltaic sector. In combination with key informant interviews, this will enable us to address the question: under what conditions might mid-size solar photovoltaic projects enable good jobs? My analysis suggests that union organizing, project labor agreements and prevailing wage laws are likely to play a smaller role in mid-size projects than they have in utility-scale projects, and thus additional tools are necessary to ensure that mid-size solar photovoltaic projects create good quality jobs for those that need them the most. Policymakers should consider how to attach workforce investment requirements and labor standards to any regulatory incentives for mid-size projects.

Book Putting Renewables to Work

Download or read book Putting Renewables to Work written by Daniel M. Kammen and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New Apollo Energy Project, by coordinating public and private policies and investments, provides the vision for a cleaner, domestically-based, and more secure 21st century energy system. This report provides an invaluable comparison of the many recent studies that show how a shift towards clean energy technologies will result in significant job creation. These studies confirm that supporting renewable and efficient energy systems will create more American jobs than would a comparable investment in traditional fossil fuel based systems. Moreover, an investment agenda in emerging clean energy technologies would also reduce our foreign trade deficit and reestablish the U.S. as a leader in this growing international market. Book The Role of Coal in a Sustainable Energy Mix for India

Download or read book The Role of Coal in a Sustainable Energy Mix for India written by Mritiunjoy Mohanty and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-09-13 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As India switches away from a coal-based to a more sustainable energy use pattern, which pathway will it adopt? What is the nature of challenges that it will face, and who will be affected? Who will gain? This volume offers insights into the steps and challenges involved in this transition and addresses some urgent questions about the possible pathways for India’s renewable energy generation. Including contributions from researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, it draws on different disciplines, ranging from science and technology to economics and sociology, and situates the issue of low carbon transition within an interdisciplinary framework. India has committed to gradual decarbonisation of its economy. This book takes this as its starting point and uses a wide-angle lens, incorporating macro as well as micro views, to understand the possible next steps as well as trade-offs that will inevitably be posed. It incorporates the perspectives of all stakeholders ranging from central and state governments, public and private sector firms, on the one hand, to individuals and local communities, on the other, to explore their role in the transition, their interests, and how these will change and evolve. This timely volume will be of interest to students and researchers of environmental studies, development studies, environmental economics, political studies, and Asian studies. It will also be useful to academics, practitioners, and policymakers working on issues related to climate change, sustainable development, energy policy and economics, and public policy.
