We know there is a demand, a fundamental human need for people to come together. We can inspire people, creating powerful moments and memorable stories. We influence people. Sometimes we even change lives. We are in a powerful position. But events are both inspiring, and, challenging. We can (and should) use events as a catalyst to achieve our desired goal. To create attention, action, and celebration. To connect, engage, and influence. Impact in that moment, and for the future. But it's not easy. Events have 2 sides. They are inspiring, and challenging. And some times we spend to much time on the wrong side. Event people are passionate, we work hard, and we deserve to do well. It is difficult to always get it right, but it is possible. We can learn so much from each others lived experiences, our real world learnings. And after 25+ years in the industry, I now want to share my learnings. To help event people, and event owners succeed in our influential but challenging world of events. As an Advisor, Speaker, Mentor, and host of 'The Event Show', I am hoping to connect people to meaningful knowledge, insights from some of the worlds more interesting thinkers, the leading events, and event people. Book excerpt: Phineas Gage was truly a man with a hole in his head. Phineas, a railroad construction foreman, was blasting rock near Cavendish, Vermont, in 1848 when a thirteen-pound iron rod was shot through his brain. Miraculously, he survived to live another eleven years and become a textbook case in brain science. At the time, Phineas Gage seemed to completely recover from his accident. He could walk, talk, work, and travel, but he was changed. Gage "was no longer Gage," said his Vermont doctor, meaning that the old Phineas was dependable and well liked, and the new Phineas was crude and unpredictable. His case astonished doctors in his day and still fascinates doctors today. What happened and what didn't happen inside the brain of Phineas Gage will tell you a lot about how your brain works and how you act human.

Book Creating Collaborative Advantage

Download or read book Creating Collaborative Advantage written by Professor Hans Christian Garmann Johnsen and published by Gower Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2012-08-28 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the emerging new collaborative economic order, innovation is achieved by an integrated process of collaboration between policymakers, business and society. Often, the focus for this collaboration is at a regional level. Creating Collaborative Advantage examines the trends in innovation policy that reflect this new thinking and regional focus. This book develops the view that collaboration is one of many ways of organising a competitive economy. It asks how, when and where collaboration is a meaningful way of organisation. It explores collaboration at business level, business networks between companies, and a wider collaborative coalition between business and public authorities. It is not a manual, a 'how to do it', because there is no single straightforward universal model to replace current orthodoxy on economic development, but it will enable people to learn. The contributors to this unique book have been involved with the implementation of some of the most outstanding examples of collaborative approaches, it therefore gives an outstanding picture of diversity, inbuilt comparisons and contrast, and debate between the cases. The co-authors give their understanding of these issues, but the book tries to establish some common understandings and bring the concept of collaboration to a larger audience, and to increase interest in a field which requires further exploration. Policy makers, advisers and administrators at all levels of government, those involved in research and development, and business leaders and educators, will find this book invaluable, together with readers having an academic interest in the subject of innovation.

Download or read book Performing Memories written by Gabriele Biotti and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-26 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is memory today? How can it be approached? Why does the contemporary world seem to be more and more haunted by different types of memories still asking for elaboration? Which artistic experiences have explored and defined memory in meaningful ways? How do technologies and the media have changed it? These are just some of the questions developed in this collection of essays analysing memory and memory shapes, which explores the different ways in which past time and its elaboration have been, and still are, elaborated, discussed, written or filmed, and contested, but also shared. By gathering together scholars from different fields of investigation, this book explores the cultural, social and artistic tensions in representing the past and the present, in understanding our legacies, and in approaching historical time and experience. Through the analysis of different representations of memory, and the investigation of literature, anthropology, myth and storytelling, a space of theories and discourses about the symbolic and cultural spaces of memory representation is developed.
