This book was released on 2022-06-10 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Active learning occurs when a learning task can be related in a non-arbitrary manner to what the learner already knows and when there is a personal recognition of the links between concepts. The most important element of active learning is not so much in how information is presented, but how new information is integrated into an existing knowledge base. In order to successfully implement active learning into higher education, its effect on student engagement must be studied and considered. The Handbook of Research on Active Learning and Student Engagement in Higher Education focuses on assessing the effectiveness of active learning and constructivist teaching to promote student engagement and provides a wide range of strategies and frameworks to help educators and other practitioners examine the benefits, challenges, and opportunities for using active learning approaches to maximize student learning. Covering topics such as online learning environments and engagement approaches, this major reference work is ideal for academicians, practitioners, researchers, librarians, industry professionals, educators, and students.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “A glittering glimpse into a pure realization of late capitalism, and . . . our collective future . . . .uncovers why K-pop is the global cultural phenomenon.” —Carol Vernallis, author of Unruly Media: YouTube, Music Video, and the New Digital Cinema 1990s South Korea saw the transition from a military dictatorship to a civilian government, from a manufacturing economy to a postindustrial hub, and from a cloistered society to a more dynamic transnational juncture. In K-pop Live, Suk-Young Kim investigates the ascent of Korean popular music in relation to the rise of personal technology and social media. Based on in-depth interviews with K-pop industry personnel, media experts, critics, and fans, as well as archival research, K-pop Live explores how the industry has managed the tough sell of live music in a marketplace in which virtually everything is available online. Teasing out digital media's courtship of "liveness" in the production and consumption of K-pop, Kim investigates the nuances of the affective mode in which human subjects interact with one another in the digital age. Observing performances online, in concert, and even through the use of holographic performers, Kim offers readers a step-by-step guide through the K-pop industry's variegated efforts to diversify media platforms as a way of reaching a wider global network of music consumers. In an era when digital technology inserts itself into nearly all social relationships, Kim reveals how "what is live" becomes a question of how we exist as increasingly mediated subjects. “Lively insights into the complexities of the artistry and the commerce, the manufactured and the impromptu, the virtual and the somatic, and the local and the global that propel the production [and] consumption of Korean popular music today.” —Hyung-Gu Lynn, University of British Columbia

Book Subjective Reality

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dara Fogel
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2014-03-22
  • ISBN : 9780985926175
  • Pages : 120 pages

Download or read book Subjective Reality written by Dara Fogel and published by . This book was released on 2014-03-22 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the True Nature of Reality? This volume contains ten essays written over two decades, exploring different aspects of Subjective Reality and connection to the Deep Self. Join philosoher, ethicist and educator, Dr. Dara Fogel for a mind-bending yet approachable adventure through the theoretical, historical and experiential underpinnings of the Nature of Personal Identity and Experience. Some of this material has been previously published online at Dr. Fogel's popular website, www.province-of-the-mind.com, but much has never been published or made publically available until now. The true nature of reality is a question that every thinking person has grappled with at some point in their life. Subjective Reality - Are You In or Out? seeks answers to the perennial existential questions of "Who am I?" "Why am I here?" "What is Real, and how can I know for sure?" Fogel draws inspiration from a wide array of sources both ancient and modern, from Plato to Jung to the bizarre extremes of quantum physics in her attempts to articulate the ineffable. Book Excerpt: "Subjective Reality only takes as real what it experiences first-hand, since external or Objective Reality is not seen as reliable, coming from second-hand sources. This approach is also known as Gnosticism - the seeking of direct knowledge (Gnosis), rather than accepting external reports as knowledge without personal experience. It is just as impossible to provide proof of the validity of Subjective Reality as it is to prove Objective Reality, as any proof I could give would just be a second-hand report, not your own first-hand experience. Subjective Reality is necessarily gnostic - that is, it is based in personal experience. You are never asked to take anything on faith in Subjective Reality. In fact, as the Microcosm of the Macrocosm, it is your job to explore your world and discover Truth for yourself. No one can give this to you, and if they could, you wouldn't want someone else's regurgitated Truth. If a second-hand Truth would suffice, you would not be interested in learning more about Subjective Reality..."

Book The Jet Race and the Second World War

Download or read book The Jet Race and the Second World War written by S. Mike Pavelec and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2007-02-28 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1930s, as nations braced for war, the German military build up caught Britain and the United States off-guard, particularly in aviation technology. The unending quest for speed resulted in the need for radical alternatives to piston engines. In Germany, Dr. Hans von Ohain was the first to complete a flight-worthy turbojet engine for aircraft. It was installed in a Heinkel-designed aircraft, and the Germans began the jet age on August 27, 1939. The Germans led the jet race throughout the war and were the first to produce jet aircraft for combat operations. In England, the doggedly determined Frank Whittle also developed a turbojet engine, but without the support enjoyed by his German counterpart. The British came second in the jet race when Whittle's engine powered the Gloster Pioneer on May 15, 1941. The Whittle-Gloster relationship continued and produced the only Allied combat jet aircraft during the war, the Meteor, which was relegated to Home Defense in Britain. In America, General Electric copied the Whittle designs, and Bell Aircraft contracted to build the first American jet plane. On October 1, 1942, a lackluster performance from the Bell Airacomet, ushered in the American jet age. The Yanks forged ahead, and had numerous engine and airframe programs in development by the end of the war. But, the Germans did it right and did it first, while the Allies lagged throughout the war, only rising to technological prominence on the ashes of the German defeat. Pavelec's analysis of the jet race uncovers all the excitement in the high-stakes race to develop effective jet engines for warfare and transport.
