Book Impact and Explosion Cratering

Download or read book Impact and Explosion Cratering written by David John Roddy and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1977 with total page 1326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aspects of cratering phenomenology are considered along with material properties and shock effects, theoretical cratering mechanics, ejecta, and problems of scaling. Attention is given to the application of high explosion cratering data to planetary problems, cratering mechanisms observed in laboratory-scale high-explosive experiments, nuclear cratering experiments, complex craters in alluvium, terrestrial impact structures, the Ries impact crater, buried impact craters in the Williston basin and the adjacent area, crater morphometry from bistatic radar, a Fourier analysis of planimetric lunar crater shape, a stratigraphic model for Bessel Crater and southern Mare Serenitatis, a nested-crater model of lunar ringed basins, Martian fresh crater morphology and morphometry, the distribution and emplacement of ejecta around Martian impact craters, the nature of the present interplanetary crater-forming projectiles, cratering mechanics and future Martian exploration, the response of rocks to large stresses, the dynamical implications of the petrology and distribution of impact melt rocks, and a review and comparison of hypervelocity impact and explosion cratering calculations.

Book Granular Materials Under Shock and Blast Loading

Download or read book Granular Materials Under Shock and Blast Loading written by Padmanabha Vivek and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-31 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses the fundamental dynamic behaviour of granular materials, in particular cohesionless sand, when subjected to shock and blast wave loading. The contents of the book are mainly divided into three parts based on the type of loading imparted to the granular materials: Shock-wave loading (step pulse); Air-blast loading (Friedlander wave); Buried-blast loading. It provides a comprehensive review of the available testing methods, along with the necessary diagnostic measurements for material characterization, making it useful for researchers working in the area of blast protection and Impact engineering.

Book Geotechnical Centrifuge Modeling of Explosion Induced Craters

Download or read book Geotechnical Centrifuge Modeling of Explosion Induced Craters written by Deborah J. Goodings and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One hundred twenty-one model tests of explosion induced craters in dry sand were conducted using small charges of PETN detonated at accelerations between 1g and 101g; ninety-six were found to be useful in analysis. Extrapolation to prototype dimensions indicates that for half-buried charges, crater volume, V, is a function of explosive weight, W to the 0.84 power, and crater radius and depth are functions of W to the 0.28 power. There were no detectable acceleration related scale effects from 31g to 101g. This confirms the value of the geotechnical centrifuge in modelling explosion induced craters at less than 100 g provided attention is paid to certain test conditions and scale effects. These include soil particle size, and angularity and soil strength which appear to strongly affect model crater volume and shape. Crater volume is also very sensitive to the unit weight of dry sand and to a lesser degree to charge location, geometry and orientation. Boundary effects arising from model dimensions and the centrifuge enclosure were examined. Keywords: Cratering, Model test extrapolation, Half buried high explosives. (EDC).
