Book excerpt: Cy Williams, thirteen, has always known that he and the other black folks on Strong's plantation have to obey white men, no question. Sure, he's free, as black people have been since his grandfather's day, but in rural Georgia, that means they're free to be whipped, abused, even killed. Almost four years later, Cy yearns for that freedom, such as it was. Now he's a chain gang laborer, forced to do backbreaking work, penned in and shackled like an animal, brutalized, beaten, and humiliated bythe boss of the camp and his hired overseers. For Cy and the boys he's chained to, there's no way out, no way back. And then hope begins to grow in him, along with strength and courage he didn't know he had. Cy is sure that a chance at freedom is worth any risk, any sacrifice. This powerful, moving story opens a window on a painful chapter in the history of race relations.

His ambitions as a creative story enthusiast grew as the entertainment industry did through the 90s. After the turn of the millennium his focuses were isolated toward the gaming region more so than all other part of the entertainment industry. After Andrew became a father to two girls and one boy, he decided to pursue his writing career wholeheartedly. Personal life events, outlooks, and environmental circumstances pushed his initial story draft to greater heights than he expected. His passion to become a published author grew stronger as time went on. His first novel, Latrommi, is the final result of his dedication and persistence during the year of 2012. Andrew is seeking to have his first novel converted into a video game for fans to dive into. The illustrations within his first novel are his personal depictions of how the characters within the game would visually appear. Inspired by thousands of hours of game testing and story constructing, his story Latrommi, has been creatively written to provide a strong structure for optimal game play. The sequel to Latrommi has been started and will soon follow in publication. Andrew’s eventual goal is to have an entire series of Latrommi books that will fuel a successful game series. Book Adhesive Bonding

Download or read book Adhesive Bonding written by L.H. Lee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several years, I have been responsible for organizing and teaching in the fall a short course on "Fundamentals of Adhesion: Theory, Practice, and Applications" at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Every spring I would try to assemble the most pertinent subjects and line up several capable lecturers for the course. However, there has always been one thing missing-an authoritative book that covers most aspects of adhesion and adhesive bonding. Such a book would be used by the participants as a main reference throughout the course and kept as a sourcebook after the course had been completed. On the other hand, this book could not be one of those "All you want to know about" volumes, simply because adhesion is an interdisciplinary and ever-growing field. For the same reason, it would be very difficult for a single individual, especially me, to undertake the task of writing such a book. Thus, I relied on the principle that one leaves the truly monumental jobs to experts, and I finally succeeded in asking several leading scientists in the field of adhesion to write separate chapters for this collection. Some chapters emphasize theoretical concepts and others experimental techniques. In the humble beginning, we planned to include only twelve chapters. However, we soon realized that such a plan would leave too much ground uncovered, and we resolved to increase the coverage. After the book had evolved into thirty chapters, we started to feel that perhaps our mission had been accomplished.

Book Macromolecular Chemistry 8

Download or read book Macromolecular Chemistry 8 written by K. Saarela and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macromolecular Chemistryâ€8 focuses on the molecular configuration of polymers, charge-transfer complexes, polymerization reactions, molecular weight fractionation, and polymer systems. The selection first offers information on molecular configuration in bulk polymers and control of monomer reactivity in copolymerization. Discussions focus on thermodynamic behavior of concentrated polymer solutions; direct measurement of molecular dimensions; and modification of monomer reactivity in radical copolymerization. The book also ponders on non-equimolar compositions from comonomer charge-transfer complexes and preparation of oligomers with functional end groups by polymerization reactions. The text examines cooperative interactions of complementary synthetic macromolecules in solutions and molecular weight fractionation on the basis of solubility. Topics include interactions of chemically complementary molecules and conformational transitions and methods for evaluating the molecular size distribution of the original polymer. The book also tackles alkylaluminium compounds in carbenium ion polymerization and thermodynamics of multicomponent polymer systems. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in the molecular configuration of polymers, complexes, and polymer systems.
