Erst im Laufe der Arbeiten des Verfassers wurde es klar, daB im Interesse der geplanten Geschlossenheit des gestellten Themas auch solche Probleme wie die Beurteilung der Statik, der arteriellen Versorgung und andere miteinbezogen werden muBten, wenn die Monographie ihrer Aufgabe als wissenschaftliches Nachschlagewerk gerecht werden solI. Die Bearbeitung durch einen einzigen Autor erwies sich bei dieser Thematik als ein groBer Vorteil, da Herr PbSCHL dadurch den Uberblick iiber das ganze Gebiet bewahren und die Gewichte besser verteilen konnte. Seiner personlichen Zuriickhaltung ist es zu verdanken, wenn es ihm gelungen ist, ein objektives Bild iiber die verschiedenen Theorien bei der Behandlung atiologischer Fragen zu reflektieren. Hervorzuheben ist auch sein Eingehen auf die Zusammenhangsfragen mit der Unfallbegutachtung und die bestehenden Beziehungen zur Sportmedizin. Natiirlich kann ein solches Nachschlagewerk nur dann seine Aufgabe erfiillen, wenn auch die Nekrosen, deren atiologische Einordnung noch unklar ist, ebenso darin gefunden werden, wie solche Veranderungen, bei denen atiologisch von einigen Autoren an asep­ tische Nekrosen gedacht wird. Aus dem gleichen Grunde muBten auch Fragen der Therapie gestreift werden, zumal der Rontgenologe gezwungen sein kann, iiber den Erfolg opera­ tiver Verfahren oder iiber die Ausheilung ein Urteil abzugeben.
