Book And the Stars Go with You Soulful Interiors Ineffable Fashion Mindful Ramblings

Download or read book And the Stars Go with You Soulful Interiors Ineffable Fashion Mindful Ramblings written by Robin Brown and published by . This book was released on 2019-12-03 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If the soaring quotes of Elizabeth Gilbert, Marianne Williamson and other contemporary and classic creative luminaries were to fly together in a beautifully minimalist landscape amongst vintage-inspired dresses, holy boots and top hats, you would have this book. Part memoir, part fairy tale and all inspiration, Magnolia Pearl's "And the Stars go With You" is far beyond your typical fashion tome. Delving deep into creator-visionary Robin Brown's childhood, influences and ethos, the book is a vital volume on a mission to spark a revolution. The fashion is featured in context amidst landscapes and showrooms dotting the countryside in Fredericksburg, Texas that Brown and the Magnolia Pearl family inhabit. 240 pages of images richly convey Magnolia Pearl's aesthetic as a sense of time and place as opposed to a blip on the radar of an industry. Timely quotes from beloved masters and contemporary seers tie the pages together into a narrative with the feel of a movement; contributions from Magnolia Pearl's rebel sidekicks such as Donavon Frankenreiter sail this movement further towards the horizon. Magnolia Pearl is a "horizonal" brand-a work in progress instead of a destination, an elusive sense of a beauty that adheres to a curve even as others insist on a line. "And the Stars go With You" is a pair of binoculars and a backstage pass to the journey. You're already on it anyway, might as well bring a friend.

Book excerpt: American lore has slighted the cowgirl, although at least one can still be found in nearly every ranching community. Like her male counterpart, she rides and ropes, understands land and stock, and confronts the elements. The writer and photographer Teresa Jordan traveled sixty thousand miles in the American West, talking with more than a hundred authentic cowgirls running ranches and performing in rodeos. The result is a fascinating book that also situates the cowgirl in history and literature. A new preface and updated bibliography have been added to this Bison Book edition.

Book Outriders

  • Author : Rebecca Scofield
  • Publisher : University of Washington Press
  • Release : 2019-10-14
  • ISBN : 029574605X

Download or read book Outriders written by Rebecca Scofield and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2019-10-14 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rodeo is a dangerous and painful performance in which only the strongest and most skilled riders succeed. In the popular imagination, the western rodeo hero is often a stoic white man who embodies the toughness and independence of America’s frontier past. However, marginalized people have starred in rodeos since the very beginning. Cast out of popular western mythology and pushed to the fringes in everyday life, these cowboys and cowgirls found belonging and meaning at the rodeo, staking a claim to national inclusion. Outriders explores the histories of rodeoers at the margins of society, from female bronc-riders in the 1910s and 1920s and convict cowboys in Texas in the mid-twentieth century to all-black rodeos in the 1960s and 1970s and gay rodeoers in the late twentieth century. These rodeo riders not only widened the definition of the real American cowboy but also, at times, reinforced the persistent and exclusionary myth of an idealized western identity. In this nuanced study, Rebecca Scofield shares how these outsider communities courted authenticity as they put their lives on the line to connect with an imagined American West.
