Book excerpt: Maggie Gallagher, twenty-one, runs the Gallagher Ranch in South Texas and has raised her little sister and orphaned nephew since her parents and older sister died. No wonder she can't find time for romance! When the Cowboy Rides Away opens two years after Maggie loses her family members. Out for a ride with her sister, she discovers Alex Lancaster, a handsome cowboy, shot and seriously wounded, on her land. Kind-hearted and a Christian, Maggie nurses him back to health despite all her other chores. How could she know that Alex has a secret that could break her heart? When the Cowboy Rides Away won the 2016 Texas Association of Authors contest in the Christian western category. In the same year, When the Cowboy Rides Away also placed in the Will Rogers Medallion Award in the Inspirational Western Fiction category. A sweet western romance novel set in South Texas, 1880. I enjoyed the sassy and competent Maggie Gallagher who cares for two orphan children, relations of hers. The complication when Alex Lancaster is found wounded and with a memory loss pulls two strong-willed but likeable characters together. Struggles with witchcraft and intrigues combine with believable relationship conflicts. They must deal with suspicion and mistrust issues when secret, unhappy pasts clash. Good pacing of development of relationships. Appreciated the surprise twist. Janet Chester Bly, author and co-author of 32 fiction and nonfiction books Molly Noble Bull produces another western novel that is so authentic I felt as if I were there in South Texas. I've been there a number of times, and she has the setting perfect. I loved the characters who tugged at my heartstrings throughout the story, and I kept turning pages to find out how it would all end. Lena Nelson Dooley, award-winning, best-selling author of over 30 books

It’s time to tackle life on her own terms. Break free. And what better way than to answer Jason Mann’s challenge? He doesn’t believe she’ll travel to her cousin’s ranch to discuss why he disappeared from her life, so she does him one better and hires on. She didn’t want him back—she wants to prove that she can rise to a challenge. Unfortunately, the attraction they once shared has not withered and died as she’d once thought…if anything it’s stronger than ever.

Book excerpt: Humorous, Inspirational Story That All Will Love Meet six-year-old Tommy Johnson, Super Cowboy and Super Story-teller. Want to build a box to capture wild cats that roam the farm? How about tips on catching a greased pig at the fair, or teaching a stubborn lamb to avoid being trampled by angry milk cows? From the first paragraph, when Tommy explains why a boy needs a dog for a pet instead of a cat, he wins us over with his down-to-earth and humorous view of the world. Once Tommy begins school, however, things get complicated. He gets picked on by teachers and mocked by classmates. And then tragedy strikes. In the process of dealing with his grief, Tommy learns the meaning of true friendship. This is a book even reluctant readers will enjoy. Boys, girls, and adults have all enjoyed this fun book. Some Reviews The little boy, Tommy, reminds me of Calvin from the "Calvin and Hobbs" comic strip by Bill Watterson because of his mischievousness. It is such a fun book to read!" -- Celese Sanders (syndicated columnist of "Little Bits Of Life") "Super Cowboy Rides" reminds me of when I was a boy and we would visit my grandparents' farm in Utah where my cousins would try, in a loving way, to kill me. It has a ring of authenticity that could only be accomplished by growing up on a farm or ranch. I loved each chapter, but once I reached the end of the book I realized I had been taught some important lessons. This is a book that boys will love as well as girls who look for the good in everyone. -- Jack Weyland (Author of "Charlie" and other Y.A. novels.) "This is the perfect family trip 'read out loud' book. You are on the edge of your seat the entire time wondering what this little cowboy will do next! We laughed so hard, and my 8-year old kept begging me to not stop reading. This book reels you in from the first page. We will be adding this fantastic book to our home library." -- Stephanie Ashcraft (New York Times best selling author)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's the Cowboy Way! tells the full story of the amazing true adventures of group members Ranger Doug, Woody Paul, Too Slim, and Joey "The CowPolka King" for the first time, from their first gigs at "Herr Harry's Phranks 'N' Steins," in Nashville, to their rise to the top of the Grammy heap. Since 1977, Riders In The Sky has faithfully tended a musical tradition kindled by singing cowboy legends, such as Gene Autry and the Sons Of The Pioneers. Throughout its long career, the group has branded the genre with its own mark, crafting a well-balanced mix of both classic and original western songs -- smooth harmony, hot licks, and comedy. Over the past quarter of a century, and more than 4,500 shows, 290 national TV appearances, 203 public radio shows, nearly 700 Grand Ole Opry appearances, 2.3 million miles on the road, two Grammy Awards, three television series, and 31 albums down the trail, a group that began with a commitment to carry on an American musical tradition has itself become a national treasure.

Book The Gay Male Sleuth in Print and Film

Download or read book The Gay Male Sleuth in Print and Film written by Drewey Wayne Gunn and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2012-11-08 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Gay Male Sleuth in Print and Film (2005), scholar Drewey Wayne Gunn examined the history of gay detectives beginning with the first recognized gay novel, The Heart in Exile, which appeared in 1953. In the years since the original edition's publication, hundreds of novels and short stories in this sub-genre have been produced, and Gunn has unearthed many additional representations previously unrecorded. In this new edition, Gunn provides an overview of milestones in the development of gay detectives over the last several decades. Also included in this volume is an annotated list of novels, short stories, plays, graphic novels, comic strips, films, and television series with gay detectives, gay sleuths of secondary importance, and non-sleuthing gay policemen. The most complete listing available—including the only listing of early gay pulp novels, present-day male-to-male romances, and erotic films—this new edition brings the work up to date with publications missed in the first edition, particularly cross-genre mysteries, early pulps, and some hard-to-find volumes. The Gay Male Sleuth in Print and Film: A History and Annotated Bibliography lists all printed works in English (including translations) presently known to include gay detectives (such as amateur sleuths, police detectives, private investigators, and investigative reporters), from the 1929 play Rope until the present day. It includes all films in English, subtitled or dubbed, from the screen version of Rope in 1948 and the launch of the independent film Spy on the Fly in 1966 through the end of 2011. Complete with two appendices—a bibliography of sources and a list of Lambda Literary Awards—and indexes of titles, detectives, and actors, this extensively revised and updated reference will prove invaluable to mystery collectors, researchers, aficionados of the subgenre, and those devoted to GLBTQ studies.
