Book Cheering for Self

Download or read book Cheering for Self written by James S. Vass Jr and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003-05-13 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a study of UW men's basketball fans during the 2001-2002 season and explores their proclivity to 'cheering for self' during basketball events. The term 'basketball event' is used rather than 'basketball game' to make clear that everything connected to and seen, heard, or experienced before, during and after a basketball game is included. The actual game itself is only part of the 'basketball event. An undercurrent runs throughout this participant observation mini-ethnography dealing with access, and the relative quality of that access, to basketball events being affected by ones age, class, race, and gender. The prominent role of advertising in shaping basketball events and helping to construct fans as consumers of products (both commercial and institutional) during the process of cheering for self is central to this idea. Cheering for self is the activity engaged in by individual fans after they find things to identify or connect with through personal investment. Fans cheer for self indirectly. Fans cheer for the team that they identify with. Through the process of cheering for self while attending the basketball event people are taught how to become fans, to consume a UW product--the basketball event and to consume advertisers' products. People have a tendency to spend their entire life trying to impress others.

Book The Day the Cowboys Quit

Download or read book The Day the Cowboys Quit written by Elmer Kelton and published by Forge Books. This book was released on 2008-02-05 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A different kind of range war erupts between cowboys and ranchers in The Day the Cowboys Quit from seven-time Spur Award-winning author Elmer Kelton. The time is 1883, the place is the Texas Panhandle. Cowboys refuse to be stigmatized as drinkers and exploited by the wealthy cattle owners who don't pay liveable wages. Those very same ranchers want to take away the cowboys' right to own cattle because this ownership, the ranchers believe, would lead to thieving. So the dictum is set: If you're a cowboy, you can't own a cow. When rumors of such legislation travel from wagon to wagon, the cowboys decided to rally and fight for their rights--they gather together and strike. At the Publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management Software (DRM) applied.

Book Amish Cowboys of Montana Books 1 3

Download or read book Amish Cowboys of Montana Books 1 3 written by Adina Senft and published by Moonshell Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-10-23 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Montana Millers are an Old Order Amish family ranching in the Siksika Valley of northwestern Montana. They believe in faith, family, and the land. They’ll need all three when love comes to the Circle M! This collection contains the first three books in the series: The Amish Cowboy (a second chance romance), The Amish Cowboy’s Baby (a secret baby romance), and The Amish Cowboy’s Bride (a wrong groom romance). In book one, eldest brother Daniel can do pretty much anything—except forget Lovina Lapp, who broke his heart and married someone safe. After a romance with Daniel that ended when he chose Montana over her, Lovina learned the danger of loving a cowboy. But after God took her husband, she finds herself unexpectedly at the Circle M Ranch, where one look at Daniel tells her there is nothing safe about her feelings for him … In book two, rebel Joshua Miller is the son most likely to break his mother’s heart. His life is all good times and bad choices ... until the day he finds a baby at the door with a note saying the child is his. Sara Fischer returns to Montana to join church, where the only job she can find is on the Circle M—as a nanny. The Amish way of life is the fence that divides them. But can a baby’s trusting smile open their hearts to each other—and to God? In book three, Rebecca Miller is content to dream about a man she saw the previous summer—until one stormy night, she rescues an accident victim and recognizes him as the same man. Noah King arrives at the hospital to find his brother Andrew unconscious and a young Amish woman holding his hand. Noah thinks Rebecca is too good for his handsome, reckless brother—or is that his own heart, longing for what it can’t have? “This story has all that Adina Senft is known to bring to her writing. Complex characters. Family values. Being lost and found in the redemptive Spirit of God. You will enjoy its twists and turns!” —Goodreads The Amish Cowboys of Montana: Books 1-3 collection has a family thread running through each book. No strong language, just a loving kiss and a guaranteed happily ever after. If you like books by Jennifer Spredemann, Jennifer Beckstrand, or Serena B. Miller, you’re in the right place. Enjoy!

Book Drinking from the Trough

Download or read book Drinking from the Trough written by Mary E. Carlson and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-08-28 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Carlson didn't start out to become a veterinarian, let alone the owner and caretaker of cats (many), dogs (two, both huskies), and horses (some with manners, some without) in Colorado. She was a suburban Chicago girl; all she knew of the American West came from the stories her uncle, who had settled in northern Colorado, told her during his annual visits. But thanks to him, she ended up moving to Fort Collins, Colorado for college—and after falling in love with a man she'd become friends with in her final year of college, when he was a student at the CSU School of Veterinary Medicine, she remained there. Watching the work Earl did as a veterinarian inspired Mary to eventually leave her tenured teaching position and enter vet school, after which she opened her own, feline-exclusive clinic. Along the way, there were numerous pets, grueling years of vet school, a shattered hip, an enduring love, illness, and death—and the rediscovery that life, especially a life full of delightful animals, is worth living.
