Book Coupled Problems and Multi Physics

Download or read book Coupled Problems and Multi Physics written by Moussa Karama and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 2011-07-04 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters BCI (WoS). The objective of Coupled Problems is to present and discuss the state-of-the-art mathematical models, numerical methods and computational techniques used for solving coupled problems of a multidisciplinary nature in science and engineering. The goal of the conference was to take a step forward, in the formulation and solution of real-life problems, with a multidisciplinary vision; accounting for all of the complex couplings involved in the physical description of the problem. Simulation of multifaceted physics problems is a common task in applied research and industry. Often a suitable solver is built by connecting together several single-aspect solvers into a network. In this special issue, research in various fields was selected for consideration: adaptive methodology for multi-physics solvers, multi-physics phenomena and coupled-field problems leading to computationally intensive structural analysis. The strategies which are used to keep these problems computationally affordable are of special interest, and make this an essential reference-work.

Review from Book News Inc.: Containing only invited peer reviewed papers, this collection of twelve contributions on coupled problems and simulation of multi-physics issues contains frequent figures and equations. Although this area of research has traditionally been associated with aircraft engineering, several of the pieces cover other areas such as design optimization, drilling fluids, and river sedimentation.

Book The Spanish Coastal Systems

Download or read book The Spanish Coastal Systems written by Juan A. Morales and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 823 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents the state of art of the geologic knowledge about the Spanish coast obtained through scientific research in the last 30 years. From a general point of view, coasts are the most quickly changing systems of the Earth. This is critical, since many human resources, such as the main part of economic and social activities, are located in the coastal areas. Especially in the case of Spain these coasts include cities, wide industrial areas (including harbor complexes), important ecologic systems, and our main economic resource: tourism. Understanding the dynamic functioning of each element of this coast is vital for correct future coastal management, so as to solve problems derived from bad plans developed in the last decades of the twentieth century. This is a valuable text for advanced graduate students and coastal researchers, which connects the specific dynamic functioning of the main Spanish coastal environments and their relationships with human activities.

Book Biomimetic Research for Architecture and Building Construction

Download or read book Biomimetic Research for Architecture and Building Construction written by Jan Knippers and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-19 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprises a first survey of the Collaborative Research Center SFB-TRR 141 ‘Biological Design and Integrative Structures – Analysis, Simulation and Implementation in Architecture’, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft since October 2014. The SFB-TRR 141 provides a collaborative framework for architects and engineers from the University of Stuttgart, biologists and physicists from the University of Freiburg and geoscientists and evolutionary biologists from the University of Tübingen. The programm is conceptualized as a dialogue between the disciplines and is based on the belief that that biomimetic research has the potential to lead everyone involved to new findings far beyond his individual reach. During the last few decades, computational methods have been introduced into all fields of science and technology. In architecture, they enable the geometric differentiation of building components and allow the fabrication of porous or fibre-based materials with locally adjusted physical and chemical properties. Recent developments in simulation technologies focus on multi-scale models and the interplay of mechanical phenomena at various hierarchical levels. In the natural sciences, a multitude of quantitative methods covering diverse hierarchical levels have been introduced. These advances in computational methods have opened a new era in biomimetics: local differentiation at various scales, the main feature of natural constructions, can for the first time not only be analysed, but to a certain extent also be transferred to building construction. Computational methodologies enable the direct exchange of information between fields of science that, until now, have been widely separated. As a result they lead to a new approach to biomimetic research, which, hopefully, contributes to a more sustainable development in architecture and building construction.

Book Nonlinear Mesoscopic Elasticity

Download or read book Nonlinear Mesoscopic Elasticity written by Robert A. Guyer and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-09-28 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook brings together a great deal of new data on the static and dynamic elastic properties of granular and other composite material. The authors are at the very center of today's research and present new and imported theoretical tools that have enabled our current understanding of the complex behavior of rocks. There are three central themes running throughout the presentation: · Rocks as the prototypical material for defining a class of materials · The PM space model as a useful theoretical construct for developing a phenomenology · A sequence of refined analysis methods. This suite of new methods for both recording and analyzing data is more than a single framework for interpretation, it is also a toolbox for the experimenter. A comprehensive and systematic book of utmost interest to anybody involved in non-destructive testing, civil engineering, and geophysics.

Book Experimental Rock Mechanics

Download or read book Experimental Rock Mechanics written by Kiyoo Mogi and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-11-03 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fracture and flow of rocks under stress and their geophysical and seismological implications raise fundamental questions in rock mechanics, particularly in the areas of tectonophysics and seismology. This text exclusively addresses the deformation and fracture of rock specimens under general triaxial compression, in which all three principal stress
