Book Combating Terrorism

Download or read book Combating Terrorism written by Charles Michael Johnson and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 2002, destroying the terrorist threat and closing the terrorist safe haven have been key national security goals. The U.S. has provided Pakistan, a key ally in the war on terror, more than $10.5 billion for military, economic, and development activities. Pakistan¿s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), which border Afghanistan, are vast un-policed regions attractive to extremists and terrorists seeking a safe haven. This report assesses: (1) the progress in meeting these national security goals for Pakistan¿s FATA; and (2) the status of U.S. efforts to develop a comprehensive plan for the FATA. This report compares national security goals against assessments conducted by U.S. agencies and reviews available plans. Illustrations.

Book The Making of Terrorism in Pakistan

Download or read book The Making of Terrorism in Pakistan written by Eamon Murphy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the origins and nature of terrorism in Pakistan and examines the social, political and economic factors that have contributed to the rise of political violence there. Since 9/11, the state of Pakistan has come to be regarded as the epicentre of terrorist activity committed in the name of Islam. The central argument of this volume suggests that terrorism in Pakistan has, in essence, been manufactured to suit the interests of mundane political and class interests and effectively debunks the myth of 'Islamic terrorism'. A logical consequence of this argument is that the most effective way of combating terrorism in Pakistan lies in addressing the underlying political, social and economic problems facing the country. After exploring the root causes of terrorism in Pakistan, the author goes on to relate the historical narrative of the development of the Pakistani state to the theories and questions raised by Critical Terrorism Studies (CTS) scholars. The book will therefore make an important contribution to CTS scholarship as well as presenting an analysis of the many complex factors that have shaped the rise of Pakistani terrorism. This book will be of great interest to students of Critical Terrorism Studies, Asian history and politics, Security Studies and IR in general.

They have tried to implement Shariah Law. People use and abuse religion in order to create fear and anxiety within the victim. Counter Terrorism experts, as well as governmental departments, are fighting on many frontlines. There already exists Islamist ideology that challenges the writ of the governmental authority and other issues that have damaged the democratic values of the state like the right-wing terrorism and ethno-nationalist fundamentalism, such as in Spain and Italy. We are stuck between two world orders, Islamic and democratic world order. Both these powers have now been fighting each other for nearly half a century, from colonialism to political Islamic era till the 21st century when the world became a global village. Book excerpt: The United States has spent tens of billions in taxpayer dollars in the form of aid to Pakistan since 9/11, all in the hope that Pakistan would become a partner in the fight against terrorism. Unfortunately, despite this significant investment, Pakistani military and intelligence services are still linked to terrorist groups. While the administration and the Pakistanis argue that there have been some successes in the fight against terrorist elements, particularly in Shawal Valley, terrorist organizations with close ties to Pakistan's military elite have been left untouched to the point of thriving while Pakistan's governing elite turns a blind eye. The U.S.-Pakistan relationship has always been complicated. Pakistan is an important country of over 200 million people. It has nuclear capabilities and is strategically located with important neighbors, including China, India, and Afghanistan. But this country poses challenges that have plagued the United States for decades.

Book Pakistan s War on Terrorism

Book excerpt: This book chronicles the decade-long war inside Pakistan as a campaign of military maneuverer and terrorist reprisal. The killing of Osama Bin Laden on Pakistani soil by US forces suggested that Pakistan had been a duplicitous participant in the war on terror. This book addresses this theme, offering an analytic account of Pakistan's strategic calculus during this time, both in military and in political terms, and of how these factors have been filtered by Pakistan's unique strategic culture.

Book Threats to External and Internal Security of Pakistan In the Age of Globalization

This book was released on 2024-09-11 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diploma Thesis from the year 2024 in the subject Politics - Topic: International relations, grade: A, Jamia Hamdard University (School of History and Civilization Shaanxi Normal University, Xi’an, Shaanxi, China.), course: International Relations, language: English, abstract: We live in an era of globalization, where the question of security has emerged in a new form and character. In this dissertation, an attempt has been made to assess the current external as well as internal security threats to Pakistan and to investigate feasible remedial measures to enhance the national structure on domestic fronts. As evident from the title, this dissertation revolves around the internal and external security threats to Pakistan in the light of globalization. Various external and internal security threats to Pakistan, weaknesses of our national response, and viable countermeasures are proposed in this dissertation. This topic is one of Pakistan’s most critical burning issues and is well recognized nationally and internationally as it evaluates the characteristics of the social order in Pakistan from several perspectives to find out the causes of domestic unrest and stresses the primary factors contributing in the peace of our society. The importance of this research study further increases as the articles and study papers available on this topic are still in want of more input to chalk out viable solutions of the problems/counter actions. In this dissertation, an active attempt has been made to assess the flaws of the security structure of Pakistan in order to propose practical countermeasures. In order to achieve progress and prosperity, all Pakistan need is sincerity, cooperation, and unity. The origin of the domestic security challenges of a country can be traced from the internal and external quarters. India and Afghanistan, the two immediate neighbors, pose a conventional or external threat to the stability of Pakistan. Furthermore, global powers like United States and Russia also threaten the stability of Pakistan due to their changing interests in the global order setting. On the other hand, internal threats to Pakistan are due to the domestic political, ethnic, sectarian, extremism and Jihadi culture prevalent in the country. It is often carried out by external activities. According to the official nationalism of Pakistan, the country was created on the basis of the two-nation theory, which clearly states that the Indian Muslims are a separate and distinct community for the Hindu nation.
