Download or read book The 9 11 Novel written by Arin Keeble and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-06-04 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a comprehensive study of the first decade of literary representations of 9/11, moving from Art Spiegelman's In the Shadow of No Towers (2003) to Amy Waldman's The Submission (2012). It traces the way literature has dealt with an event that continues to shape world conflict and resonate prominently in the American imagination, and argues that the corpus of literary fiction discussing 9/11 is characterized by a fundamental sense of conflictedness related to the tensions between trauma or mourning and political imperatives. The work offers in-depth analyses of texts that have historicized 9/11 and shaped the way we understand this key moment in American and world history.

  • Pages : 178 pages

Download or read book 3797 Countdown written by Jude McGregor and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-03-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 3797 Countdown is a story filled with controversy. It is a story about three friends, one of whom thinks he may have found answers to some of the prophecies about the end of the world. As the three high school friends reunite, a conversation begins where one of them explains how the end-times prophecies are being fulfilled. He thinks we are already in Armageddon and the Great War is just around the corner. As the story unfolds, he weaves together predictions from different sources to try to explain recent and future events; and to what end they might be leading to. The information comes from ancient and not-so-ancient writings: from the Bible to Nostradamus, from the Aztecs and Mayans to Edgar Cayce, from the Hindus to the Fatima visions, from Astrology and Numerology to Astronomy and Astrophysics; and connects some of the prophecies to actual news reports. It is bold, shocking and offensive. It may incite fear in some readers and anger in others but may also inspire hope in a few.

Download or read book Countdown written by Carol Zarska and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-02-29 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trumpets were extremely important in the lives of the people of ancient Israel. Through the use of trumpets God spoke to them, guided them, warned them, and directed them. It was the duty of the priests to sound the trumpets at the appropriate times. But sometimes God Himself spoke to them directly, such as at Mt. Sinai, when in awful and terrifying grandeur the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder as the mighty God of heaven descended in fire, and the mountain trembled violently. This spectacular demonstration was to prepare the hearts of the people to receive with reverence and awe the pronouncement of His holy ten commandment law (Ex. 19:16 – 20:21). In fact, trumpets were often connected with the law and the ark of the covenant, which contained it. Priests blowing trumpets were to precede and accompany the ark whenever it was transported. An example of this is found in Joshua 6:1-20, where 7 priests blowing 7 trumpets marched before the ark around the city of Jericho for 7 days, and on the seventh day they blew the trumpets 7 times, and as the people shouted, the walls of the city collapsed. Is the God of heaven any less zealous for His sacred law today than He was in ancient times? Could it be that even now in our day He is allowing trumpets to blow to warn of the impending collapse of the cities of the nations, which are so filled with crime and corruption? Will He not rise from His throne and oversee the final dispensation of justice upon a world, which is careening toward self-destruction? Read the pages of this book and discover the meaning of the extraordinary events that have been happening since the turn of the century, and find the way into the safety of God’s pavilion.

Book excerpt: Cinematic Terror takes a uniquely long view of filmmakers' depiction of terrorism, examining how cinema has been a site of intense conflict between paramilitaries, state authorities and censors for well over a century. In the process, it takes us on a journey from the first Age of Terror that helped trigger World War One to the Global War on Terror that divides countries and families today. Tony Shaw looks beyond Hollywood to pinpoint important trends in the ways that film industries across Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East have defined terrorism down the decades. Drawing on a vast array of studio archives, government documentation, personal interviews and box office records, Shaw examines the mechanics of cinematic terrorism and challenges assumptions about the links between political violence and propaganda.

Book Evangelicals and Israel

Download or read book Evangelicals and Israel written by Stephen Spector and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2009 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most observers explain evangelical Christians' bedrock support for Israel as stemming from the apocalyptic belief that the Jews must return to the Holy Land as a precondition for the second coming of Christ. But the real reasons, argues Stephen Spector, are far more complicated. In Evangelicals and Israel, Spector delves deeply into the Christian Zionist movement, mining information from original interviews, web sites, publications, news reports, survey research, worship services, and interfaith conferences, to provide a surprising look at the sources of evangelical support for Israel.Israel is God's prophetic clock for many evangelicals - irrefutable proof that prophecy is true and coming to pass in our lifetime. But Spector goes beyond end-times theology to find a complex set of motivations behind Israel-evangelical relations. These include the promise of God's blessing for those who bless the Jews; gratitude to Jews for establishing the foundations of Christianity; remorse for the Church's past anti-Semitism; fear that God will judge the nations based on how they treated the Jewish people; and reliance on Israel as the West's firewall against Islamist terrorism. Spector explores many Christian Zionists' hostility toward Islam, but also uncovers an unexpected pragmatism and flexiblility concerning Israel's possession of the entire Holy Land. For evangelicals, politics frequently mixes with faith. Yet Spector argues that evangelical beliefs - though often portrayed as unifying and rigid - are in reality various and even contradictory. Spector uses George W. Bush's beliefs about the Bible as a sounding board for these issues and explores the evangelical influence on his Middle East policies. Evangelicals and Israel corrects much of the speculation about Bush's personal faith and about evangelicalism's impact on American-Middle East relations, and provides the fullest and most nuanced account to date of the motives and theology behind Christian Zionism.
