Book Fathers Can Be Good Dads

Download or read book Fathers Can Be Good Dads written by Brigitta Gisella Geltrich-Ludgate and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-09-25 with total page 822 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fathers Can Be Good Dads is a novel, which is based on true events. Even though dates, houses, names of people, countrysides, and sceneries have been changed, the family interactions are real. However, not all have been the actions of Ginia Marie Giselle Hinson, the heroine of the book. The majority, though, are. When the author was a little girl, she often sat around the family sitting-room table or stood outside the doors, listening as the grown-ups in her family were sharing with loud laughter the mischiefs they had gotten themselves into when they were young. Often, the author wondered how she could improve on these mischiefs just to get a bit more attention. A heartfelt thank you is expressed to all family members and friends the author had listened to. Everyone was an inspiration to her. Also a thank you is given to all those she had interacted with and to all those who got into trouble with her in moments of absolute exuberance where household rules were ignored. The novel is dedicated to every writer who has struggled through the ups and downs of putting together personal memoirs to preserve, in writing for children and their children’s children, an insight into a life that once existed before their own times.

Book The Emergence Of Number

Download or read book The Emergence Of Number written by John Newsome Crossley and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1987-11-01 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents detailed studies of the development of three kinds of number. In the first part the development of the natural numbers from Stone-Age times right up to the present day is examined not only from the point of view of pure history but also taking into account archaeological, anthropological and linguistic evidence. The dramatic change caused by the introduction of logical theories of number in the 19th century is also treated and this part ends with a non-technical account of the very latest developments in the area of Gödel's theorem. The second part is concerned with the development of complex numbers and tries to answer the question as to why complex numbers were not introduced before the 16th century and then, by looking at the original materials, shows how they were introduced as a pragmatic device which was only subsequently shown to be theoretically justifiable. The third part concerns the real numbers and examines the distinction that the Greeks made between number and magnitude. It then traces the gradual development of a theory of real numbers up to the precise formulations in the nineteeth century. The importance of the Greek distinction between the number line and the geometric line is brought into sharp focus. This is an new edition of the book which first appeared privately published in 1980 and is now out of print. Substantial revisions have been made throughout the text, incorporating new material which has recently come to light and correcting a few relatively minor errors. The third part on real numbers has been very extensively revised and indeed the last chapter has been almost completely rewritten. Many revisions are the results of comments from earlier readers of the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult tells the emotionally riveting story of a family torn apart by conflicting needs and a passionate love that triumphs over human weakness. New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult is widely acclaimed for her keen insights into the hearts and minds of real people. Now she tells the emotionally riveting story of a family torn apart by conflicting needs and a passionate love that triumphs over human weakness. Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate -- a life and a role that she has never challenged...until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister -- and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves. My Sister's Keeper examines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child's life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you? Once again, in My Sister's Keeper, Jodi Picoult tackles a controversial real-life subject with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity.

Book Follow Your Bliss

Download or read book Follow Your Bliss written by Donald Hodder and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Donald Hodder has woven tales of joy and sorrow, humour and fulfillment into this compelling memoir. He practised family medicine for over forty-five years, all of it in his native Newfoundland. During his career, he kept many notebooks detailing his experiences. These became the foundation for this book. In studied prose and lilting verse, with integrity and compassion, he interlaces autobiographical material with social commentary on people and happenings in his life. He witnessed a broad spectrum of human conditions: the mundane, the miraculous, the physical, the psychological, and the social. He feels immensely honoured to have shared in the most intimate aspects of daily life with thousands of patients for so long. He is, at times, absolutely serious, skillfully witty, and hilariously funny. You are invited to sit at his table of memories and be entertained, enlightened, and enriched. Enjoy!
