Book excerpt: Order is more important than intentions. Even in the face of the greatest intentions, chaos will impede any progress. The Prayer Counselor is essential in providing appropriate guidance to God's people towards restoration at his altars. I am a Surgeon by trade. The operating suite must be orchestrated appropriately for the patient to have an expected outcome. The patients have already demonstrated submission by allowing themselves to be wheeled into the operating room. After submission there must be precise execution by all members of the operating team. The altar visitors have submitted themselves to an even greater degree by their public display of approaching the altar. As a surgeon, I accept the lead role in the surgical suite, but everyone involved in the care of the patient must be in the right place at the right time for the patient to have the expected outcome. While at the altar, the leader of the altar call must be allowed to flow in the perfect will of God without being distracted by tasks that should be delegated to others. The Prayer Counselor will assist the Men and Women of God in providing the appropriate atmosphere that will bring God's people into his perfect will. Book excerpt: Gain a knowledge of counseling methods that are practical and consistent with Christian theological convictions. What do the Scriptures say about counseling? What is the biblical basis for using Scriptures in counseling? What does it mean to think biblically about counseling-related issues? At the root of this book is the confidence that Christ and his Word are not only sufficient for effectively handling the personal and interpersonal challenges of life but are superior to the resources found in the world. The practice of psychological counseling is a ministry and should not belong only to the realm of humanistic and secular theories of the mind. Written to pastors, elders, deacons, seminary students, and laypeople; well-known pastor John MacArthur and contributors present a system of biblical truth that brings together people, their problems, and the living God. This kind of counseling is based on the convictions that: God's Word should be our counseling authority. Counseling is a part of the basic discipling ministry of the local church. God's people can and should be trained to counsel effectively. Counseling: How to Counsel Biblically provides biblical guidelines to counsel people who are struggling. The contributors represent some of America's leading biblical teachers and counselors, including: Ken L. Sarles, David Powlison, Douglas Bookman, David B. Maddox, Robert Smith, William W. Goode, and Dennis M. Swanson.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is a crisis in the world today, and that is the crisis of addiction. It is not new nor even extraordinary, but common and universal in the history of mankind. The world is always looking for answers-for reasons and solutions to all of our problems. There is a new remedy out there for everything it seems and they all claim to have the sure thing. The problem is that too many of them don't work at all and too many more simply miss the mark. They don't really understand what the root of the problem is, and therefore, cannot find the solution. This is evident in the war on addiction: what it is and whom it affects. Where can we find the truth of what it is, and its root cause, and how to defeat it? The Bible is the most amazing book in the history of the world. It not only tells us what our problem is, but also how it came to be, what its consequences are, and even how it can be corrected. The answers are all there if we are careful to look. This work is a biblical understanding of addictive behaviors and how, in just a few steps, we can identify them and overcome them. God loves you and wants you to be free and for your life and family to be restored. He came to this fallen world in the person of Jesus Christ to make us clean and free.
