Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By consequence of the Karabakh War in 2020 and due to Azerbaijanian revisionism concerning the history, culture and cultural monuments of the region, the discussion on Caucasian "Albania", which is little known in the West in both academic and public circles, has been reignited. The handbook provides an overview of the current state of research on the Caucasian "Albanians" in an objective, scientifically sound manner. The contributions are not necessarily intended to reveal new scientific findings but rather to summarise approved knowledge. The volume brings together internationally renowned scholars, researchers and practitioners from various fields of studies reporting on and reviewing the state of research concerning the Caucasian "Albanians", their history and archaeology, their language and written monuments, their religion, church history and their art, including their relation to the Udi people of today. The companion is intended to neutrally introduce the readership to the subject of Caucasian Albania from various perspectives.

Book The Story of D r sge Maryam

Download or read book The Story of D r sge Maryam written by Dorothea McEwan and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2013 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The painted church in Darasge Maryam, in the Semen Mountain in northern Ethiopia, is witness to a remarkable event in Ethiopian history. Built by Daggazmac Webe in the 1850s for his coronation, it was not the venue for Webe's coronation, but for the coronation of Tewodros II, who had snatched victory from Webe. However, the art, paintings, liturgical objects and a very precious illuminated manuscript book of Revelation, the commissions and gifts by Webe, can still be seen there today. Dorothea McEwan, Hon. Fellow, has been the Archivist of The Warburg Institute, University of London.

Book A Handbook of Churches and Councils

Download or read book A Handbook of Churches and Councils written by World Council of Churches and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has often been said-and rightly so-that the World Council of Churches (WCC) is first and foremost a fellowship of churches. This book is a vivid illustration of that reality. The descriptions, lists, statistical data, and other information presented in these pages give a striking picture of the extent and diversity of this fellowship. It encompasses a Christian population of some 590 million people, in close to 150 countries in all regions of the world, comprised of over 520,000 local congregations served by some 493,000 pastors and priests, as well as countless elders, teachers, members of parish councils, and others. A Handbook of Churches and Councils is not simply a handbook of the member churches of the WCC. At all levels-global, regional and sub-regional, national, and local-member churches of the WCC interact with other churches which, for various reasons, are not formally part of the Council's membership. By combining in one volume all the conciliar and confessional bodies and their membership, this book demonstrates concretely the reach of the ecumenical movement and also shows how much broader it is than the WCC alone. It serves to remind us that ownership of the movement rests not only with the WCC but with all the partners, and ultimately with God.

Book Call to Mission and Perceptions of Proselytism

Download or read book Call to Mission and Perceptions of Proselytism written by John Baxter-Brown and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-04-13 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proselytism remains one of the most divisive issues in global Christianity, jeopardizing many ecumenical initiatives and projects. Almost all traditions accuse others of proselytism, but none readily confess to it, as one tradition's mission and evangelism is another's proselytism. This work brings together, for the first time, significant formal statements from Christian bodies and churches alongside articles from leading commentators in this hotly contested issue. It gives clergy, academics, and students a vital resource in understanding the perspectives of different traditions, and therefore the opportunity to study and understand viewpoints and opinions from competing perspectives. The volume originates in a process of work commissioned by the World Pentecostal Fellowship, the World Council of Churches, the World Evangelical Alliance, and the Roman Catholic Church, under the auspices of the Global Christian Forum. We discovered that there are no easy answers that resolve the tensions and debates about proselytism, but through listening and understanding different voices, new opportunities for establishing constructive relationships can and do emerge.
