Book Cost Keeping and Scientific Management Classic Reprint

Download or read book Cost Keeping and Scientific Management Classic Reprint written by Holden an Evans and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cost Keeping and Scientific Management This book is written for jobbing shops and small manufacturing plants where accurate cost keeping and the principles of good management have received but little attention. It is hoped that it will not be without interest to the officials of large manufacturing establishments and shipbuilding plants. Many owners and manager desire to improve the cost system, but are deterred by the belief that this cannot be done without the aid of expert accountants who will devise an elaborate system which will require a large clerical force to maintain. The methods which I have outlined are simple and require but little clerical labor. Any manager can adapt this system to meet the requirements of his work. The efficiency of a large plant under my supervision has been greatly improved by adopting and following the principles of management advocated by Mr. Fred W. Taylor. I believe that in thousands of shops marked improvement will be made if these principles are followed. The methods described in the chapters devoted to management should be of assistance to the manager who wishes to take the first steps towards Scientific Management. To accomplish this it is necessary to understand the laws or rules Of management, and to have daily reports that show the efficiency of the men and machines employed. That there are any scientific laws of management will be denied by many men of the Old school, but such a denial cannot be logically maintained. If there is a science Of psychology, there must be a science of management, for management is a mental process that follows certain definite laws, obscure and complex at times, but none the less definite when once they are understood. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Efficiency Methods: An Introduction to Scientific Management It is not at present very easy to obtain these American works; but readers in London should know that a collection of the relevant books and periodicals is being made at the London School of Economics Library, Clare Market, w.c., and that almost all the American periodicals mentioned in the text are to be found in the Patent Office Library, as well as some of the books. The Engineer ing Magazine may indeed be said t) be the organ of Scientific Management, and several im portant works have appeared in it as serials. I ndnslrial Engineering takes very much the same attitude. The American Machinist and Machinery have printed a good deal more criticism. This book was released on 2018-08-13 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Principles of Scientific Management Frederick Winslow Taylor The cheapening of any article in common use almost immediately results in a largely increased demand for that article. Take the case of shoes, for instance. The introduction of machinery for doing every element of the work which was formerly done by hand has resulted in making shoes at a fraction of their former labor cost, and in selling them so cheap that now almost every man, woman, and child in the working-classes buys one or two pairs of shoes per year, and wears shoes all the time, whereas formerly each workman bought perhaps one pair of shoes every five years, and went barefoot most of the time, wearing shoes only as a luxury or as a matter of the sternest necessity. In spite of the enormously increased output of shoes per workman, which has come with shoe machinery, the demand for shoes has so increased that there are relatively more men working in the shoe industry now than ever before. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Construction Cost Keeping and Management: A Treatise for Engineers, Contractors and Superintendents Engaged in the Management of Engineering Construction Construction Cost Keeping and Management has been pre pared in response to the request of the publishers for a second edition of Cost Keeping and Management Engineering. The old book, published in 1909 and reprinted in 1916, can hardly be said to be out of date because it confined itself to principles illustrated by a number Of practical cost keeping forms and methods but in the last twelve years some new principles of what may be justly called the Science of Management have been discovered and a great many new forms and methods have come into use. Therefore we have endeavored, in preparing the pre sent work, to supplement the original material by what has come out in the evolution of the last twelve years, rejecting very little of the Old material. This book, as was stated in the preface to Cost Keeping and Management Engineering, is intended to assist engineers, contractors and superintendents in reducing construction costs to a minimum. Many an ordinary foreman possesses a fair working knowledge of applied mechanics, having acquired it by observation and experiment; but such a foreman would be far more efficient as a manager if he also had a grasp of the theory of the principles that he applies. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Applied Methods of Scientific Management The mechanical issue of each problem can be fully recorded; but the psychological side of the subject cannot be predetermined nor authentically inscribed. The human element is at once the most important factor, and the greatest variable in the problem Which the organizer has to solve, and his success depends largely upon his ability to recognize and handle this phase of the proposition. Book Cost Keeping Short Cuts Classic Reprint

Download or read book Cost Keeping Short Cuts Classic Reprint written by Burroughs Corporation and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cost Keeping Short Cuts (a) That American business men were just beginning to be interested in costs. (b) That they apparently were not much beyond the inquiry stage. (c) That the practical information on the subject of cost finding was both meagre in quantity and questionable in authority. From among thousands of good friends, users of our machines, without whose suggestions this book would have been impossible, we, however, obtained much useful experience data. An often repeated suggestion to "go ahead and get other experiences and then let us also have the benefits," caused us to arrange the material in form for publication. This book is the spoil of that little journey into Cost Land. Theory, in its objectional sense, has but little place in what follows. The offerings are hot from the crucible of everyday business practice. One word, particularly to the technical reader. You will find this book fundamental and elementary. It is our aim to have it so. We hope you will find, however, what we have tried earnestly to put here - a few helpful suggestions. If you find that it awakens inquiries and questionings that you would like to have answered, will you not write us fully? We may not be able to answer everything you ask. We are not cost experts. It may be, however, that we can send you a form or an experience that so nearly fits your problem that you will feel repaid for your trouble in writing. Certainly we shall be glad to be of such service to you. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
