Book Cost benefit Analysis of a Blockchain based Supply Chain Finance Solution

Download or read book Cost benefit Analysis of a Blockchain based Supply Chain Finance Solution written by Patara Panuparb and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past few years, blockchain technology has shown great potential to disrupt existing supply chain finance solutions, as it could increase the efficiency of invoice processing and provide a more transparent and secure transactions. However, the costs and benefits of implementing blockchain technology in supply chain finance for involved parties are still unclear, since research on the topic is scarce. This thesis explores the net value of implementing blockchain technology in supply chain finance arrangement by using cost-benefit analysis. A cost-benefit model and the operating processes of traditional and blockchain-based supply chain finance solutions are proposed and applied to a real-world case study. We prove that blockchain technology increases the total net benefit among involved parties participating in the supply chain finance arrangement as a result of improved efficiency of invoice processing. We also find that suppliers would benefit from blockchain-based supply chain finance if the benefit from the unlocked working capital outweighs the cost of the platform fee. Another finding is that the buyer does not benefit from the technology in terms of unlocked working capital.

Book Supply Chain Finance and Blockchain Technology

Download or read book Supply Chain Finance and Blockchain Technology written by Erik Hofmann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-03 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates how the Blockchain Technology (BCT) for Supply Chain Finance (SCF) programs allows businesses to come together in partnerships and accelerate cash flows throughout the supply chain. BCT promises to change the way individuals and corporations exchange value and information over the Internet, and is perfectly positioned to enable new levels of collaboration among the supply chain actors. The book reveals new opportunities stemming from the application of BCT to SCF financing solutions, particularly reverse factoring – or approved payables financing. To do so, it first identifies the principal barriers and pain points in delivering financing solutions. Then, a possible blockchain-driven supply chain model is defined. Using this framework, the book subsequently discusses relevant use cases for the technology, which could open up new opportunities in the SCF space. It demonstrates that blockchain and distributed ledgers technologies could deliver substantial benefits for all parties involved in SCF transactions, promising to expedite the processes and lower the overall costs of financing programs. Industry giants such as IBM, Maersk, China-based Dianrong and FnConn (a Foxconn subsidiary) are currently working to digitize the global, cross-border supply chain using blockchain technology, and will likely soon create blockchain platforms for supply chain finance. These solutions aim to reduce complexity and make data sharing more secure, accurate and efficient. This book offers a highly topical resource for stakeholders across the entire supply chain, helping them prepare for the upcoming technological revolution.

Book Supply Chain Finance Solutions

Download or read book Supply Chain Finance Solutions written by Erik Hofmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-03-28 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book “Supply Chain Finance Solutions” offers orientation in the new discipline of Supply Chain Finance (SCF) by investigating the need for and nature of SCF, along with its characteristics and enablers. Due to the novelty of the Supply Chain Finance approach, there are still many knowledge gaps. This lack of research leads to uncertainties about the successful implementation of SCF solutions within companies as there is little quantified evidence on the achievable cost savings and other potential benefits. The authors close this gap by providing the latest information on business concepts and the SCF market. Based on a sample SCF model, the worldwide market size for such solutions and potential cost savings to companies engaged in SCF are analyzed. The work underlines the generally agreed-upon attractiveness and future relevance of SCF solutions by creating win-win situations; for all actors in the end-to-end supply chain as well as for external service providers.

Book Enterprise Strategy for Blockchain

Download or read book Enterprise Strategy for Blockchain written by Ravi Sarathy and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2022-10-11 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How companies can gain strategic advantage by developing blockchain capabilities. Blockchain is far more than cryptocurrency. Regarded for a decade as complex and with limited application, blockchain has now matured to be on the verge of fully realizing its disruptive potential. In Enterprise Strategy for Blockchain, business strategy expert Ravi Sarathy shows how companies can gain competitive advantage by developing and deploying blockchain capabilities. Sarathy explains what makes blockchain unique, including its capacities to eliminate intermediaries, guard against hackers, decentralize, and protect privacy. Presenting examples drawn from such sectors as finance, supply chains, computer services, consumer products, and entertainment, he describes how executives can strategically assess blockchain’s applicability to their business. After outlining blockchain’s technological features—and its technological obstacles—Sarathy describes disruptive technologies already happening in the financial services market with the emergence of decentralized finance, or DeFi, arguing that a wave of innovation might be positioning DeFi as blockchain’s “killer app.” He also explores, among many other uses, a blockchain application that addresses chronic supply chain problems, pilot blockchain programs aimed at facilitating cross-border payments, and the use of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) that allow digital art to be collected and traded. And he outlines a path for organizations that includes establishing a business case for applying blockchain, evaluating enterprise cost-benefits, and preparing the organization to develop the requisite knowledge and people skills while overcoming resistance to change. Business leaders should invest, explore and experiment with blockchain now, positioning their organizations to be first in their fields, ahead of both rising startups and late-to-the game incumbent peers.

Book Analysis and Optimization of Supply Chain Finance Management Based on Big Data in E Commerce

Download or read book Analysis and Optimization of Supply Chain Finance Management Based on Big Data in E Commerce written by Jaykar Jadhav and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the Internet has become more widely available, e-commerce and online shopping have thrived, making it simpler than ever for consumers and sellers to do business online. With the rise of e-commerce, there has been a corresponding increase in the need for a foolproof proof of delivery system for both customers and sellers. To verify delivery, the existing system relies only on a third party. As a result, there is now a possible vulnerability in the system. Currently available evidence from distribution channels demonstrates their transparency, openness, and traceability. The distributed ledger known as the blockchain makes it possible to have a system that is easily transferred across locations, subject to audit, and reliable. Supply chain issues may be mitigated in a number of ways, and one approach is to use the Ethereum blockchain. This solution uses a smart contract on the Ethereum blockchain to independently confirm that a package has been delivered from a seller to a buyer. Each user, including shoppers, merchants, and couriers, must sign up for an account before they may use the Web application. The seller then provides a catalog of products for customers to peruse. Messenger service is chosen according to the sentiment analysis, and payment is made in ethers at the moment of delivery.

Book An Industry Study of Blockchain Technology s Impact on Trade Finance

Download or read book An Industry Study of Blockchain Technology s Impact on Trade Finance written by Daniel Hellwig and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Blockchain's transformational potential has been heralded across several industries, with some enthusiastic voices comparing its foreseeable impact to that of the essential internet communication protocol TCP-IP. Several enterprises have since adopted distributed ledger technology (DLT)-based approaches as part of their operational procedures, with a view on blockchain as a magic bullet for addressing existing operational inefficiencies, improving transparency, and creating new products. However, in the absence of large-scale feasibility studies and data-based quantifications of the impact of blockchain-based technologies, companies are jumping into early-stage proof-of-concept (POC) projects without clearly-defined key performance indicators or goals for the expected return on investment; efficiency claims and reports of lessons learned are similarly lacking. A quantitative assessment of (1) the nature of a successful application of blockchain technology for supply chain and trade finance, and (2) the current market's perceived benefits, key challenges, and expected horizons of blockchain is therefore sorely needed. Here we present an empirical study of the industry's perception of blockchain-based innovation and potential for value creation for supply chain and trade finance. Our survey results show that, while industry experts across all regions view the technology and the value it can provide to streamline and simplify trade finance processes favorably, none of the study's participants have yet realized any financial or customer-value benefit. Indeed, despite predictions, no tangible savings appear to have been realized to date. Furthermore, while initial technical proof-of-concept (POC) implementations of blockchain have been executed without major difficulties, we find that challenges associated with broader-scale adoption remain unaddressed. Notably, coordinating the simultaneous adoption of a shared solution by different stakeholders remains a formidable challenge, thus hampering the potential large-scale adoption of blockchain technology.

This book was released on 2021-10-18 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: Merit, University of Salford, course: International Business, language: English, abstract: The research aimed to analyse the impact of blockchain technology on international trade and find out how blockchain technology can improve the various fields of international trade. The research also intended to find the challenges regarding the implementation of blockchain technology in international trade to help companies achieve successful collaboration and understand what requirements need to be met in advance. The literature review of this research covered the fundamentals of blockchain technology, blockchain's role in facilitating supply chain and trade finance, the impact and adoption of blockchain technology, and blockchain implementation's key challenges. A qualitative approach was used based on 12 semi-structured in-depth interviews with ten companies operating in different business fields and two blockchain specialists to obtain empirical data. This research found that blockchain technology has significantly impacted international trade by improving supply chain efficiency, reducing the complexity of the paper-based trade process, and enabling faster cross-border payments. The empirical findings presented that blockchain can facilitate the supply chain by providing a high level of transparency and better product traceability. Furthermore, the findings showed that smart contracts could facilitate trade finance by providing automatic payments and eliminating intermediaries and blockchain-based ICOs could be a great fundraising option for innovative projects. However, this research also found that the large-scale implementation of blockchain in trade finance is still not possible due to government regulations. Blockchain technology ensures to transform the supply chain and trade finance and reduce the complexity of the current international trade process. However, some critical challenges are associated with blockchain implementation, and some essential requirements need to be met in advance for successful implementation, which was discussed in this research. Furthermore, several suggestions regarding the large-scale implementation of blockchain in trade finance were presented. The empirical findings will help companies develop their adoption strategies and prepare to implement the technology in the trade process. Furthermore, the findings of this research can bring new insight into the policymaking process regarding the implementation of blockchain in trade finance.

Book On the Financing Benefits of Supply Chain Transparency and Blockchain Adoption

Download or read book On the Financing Benefits of Supply Chain Transparency and Blockchain Adoption written by Jiri Chod and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We develop a theory that shows signaling a firm's fundamental quality (e.g., its operational capabilities) to lenders through inventory transactions to be more efficient--it leads to less costly operational distortions--than signaling through loan requests, and we characterize how the efficiency gains depend on firm operational characteristics such as operating costs, market size, and inventory salvage value. Signaling through inventory being only tenable when inventory transactions are verifiable at low enough cost, we then turn our attention to how this verifiability can be achieved in practice and argue that blockchain technology could enable it more efficiently than traditional monitoring mechanisms. To demonstrate, we develop b_verify, an open-source blockchain protocol that leverages Bitcoin to provide supply chain transparency at scale and in a cost effective way. The paper identifies an important benefit of blockchain adoption--by opening a window of transparency into a firm's supply chain, blockchain technology furnishes the ability to secure favorable financing terms at lower signaling costs. Furthermore, the analysis of the preferred signaling mode sheds light on what types of firms or supply chains would stand to benefit the most from this use of blockchain technology.
