The book also tackles the issue of national security and instability caused by corruption. The author argues that progress cannot happen in countries and environments where instability exists and persists. Corruption in Africa has contributed to instability and other national security challenges, especially in fragile states on the continent. The book starts by looking at the three major types of corruption: petty, grand, and systemic and then goes on to address the different categories of corruption such as bureaucratic, legislative, political, as well as public and private sector aspects. It also deals with common forms of corruption as well as some of the causes, such as bad governance and excessive greed, to mention a few. Further, it critically examines how current political systems on the continent contribute to this condition. The book argues that some of the solutions that have been proposed to date are not viable or have not worked in practice, and through applied research, offers workable solutions that policy makers, African politicians, academics, and students of economics and development can use as a reference guide in the fight against corruption.

Africa cannot develop without their own well developed science and technology, and cannot develop with the level of corruption in the continent as we know it today. While western nations continue to advise African leaders to stop stealing the AID they send to them, they have never and will never advise them to embrace technology in order to create their own wealth. The author has done a great deal of work exposing the ills of African leaders and their western collaborators which brought Africa to her pitiable state of underdevelopment. Until corruption is greatly minimised in the continent and science and technology embraced; Africa will never achieve sustainable development. No one can do it for Africa except Africans themselves.

African business people need to create the industries that will generate the jobs African workers need. This will reduce idleness and discourage tribal conflict. African parents need to give their children the love, security, and discipline they need to grow into responsible and courageous adults. African political leaders need to make the changes that will reduce corruption and generate the laws, policies, and practices needed to enable and encourage these preceding non-political efforts capable of ensuring reliable security. Even the Fulani herdsmen and farmers conflict today is a land resource based conflict in North-Eastern Nigeria. The Aguleri/Umuleri in Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State in Nigeria, a dispute over farm land and grazing land issues, to mention a few, remains a case at hand. Our findings show that the people being governed have lost confidence on their government, who are more concerned with their individual well being. The security challenges of the people mean nothing to them. The security agents lack the maintenance of team spirit required within the service; they lack the maintenance of a disciplined and professional workforce; they are not gender sensitive; they do not promote, protect and respect the human rights of the people they are expected to protect, especially the less privileged one. As such the community felt the need to protect their lives and properties.This paper wish to look into shared security and community policing as a solution to all these security challenges facing the continent of Africa in general and Nigeria in particular, so as to see the possibility of achieving sustainable African development.

Yet, insecurity and corruption not only remain, they have become the primary development challenges of the 21st century. In particular, new threats such as organized crime, trafficking, civil unrest and terrorism have supplemented continued pr-occupation with conventional war between and within countries. In other words, risks are evolving with new threats to stability arising from international organized crime and global economic instability. Thus, a fundamental rethink is needed on the approaches of international actors to manage global risks collectively. This paper therefore argues that strengthening legitimate institutions and governance to provide citizen security, justice and jobs is crucial to break cycles of violence while stimulating development in Africa. Furthermore, defeating a terrorist network requires African nations to work with international partners to disrupt criminal and terrorist financial networks as well as eliminating the safe havens that protect (and facilitate) this activities. Perhaps, the key solution may be the biblical decree that stated that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through GOD in pulling down strongholds and demonic imaginations. As a road-map to sustainable development, the paper recommends the need for restoring confidence, transforming institutions(procedures), providing specialized assistance, acting regionally(globally) to reduce external(internal) stresses on fragile(failed)states of Africa. For the Nigerian case, break-up might be inevitable and revolutionary.
