Book Exploratory Corrosion Tests on Materials and Fluids for Advanced High temperature Molten salt

Download or read book Exploratory Corrosion Tests on Materials and Fluids for Advanced High temperature Molten salt written by United States. Department of Energy and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications for high-temperature molten salts in solar energy storage systems are presented and literature is reviewed on the corrosion of ceramics and alloys in molten carbonate, molten chloride, and molten hydroxide. The results of exploratory corrosion studies in these salts at 900 degrees C for up to 21 days are presented. Sixteen metal alloys and eight ceramic materials are evaluated. The carbonate salt results in the lowest corrosion rate for alloys in the three salts investigated and also gives low corrosion rates for ceramics. The metals showing the best corrosion resistance are Cabot 600 or Iconel 600, Cabot 800H, Haynes 556, Cabot 214, nickel, and Hastelloy N. The ceramics showing the best corrosion resistance are high-purity alumina and zirconia.

Book Corrosion of Ceramic and Composite Materials Second Edition

Download or read book Corrosion of Ceramic and Composite Materials Second Edition written by Ronald A. McCauley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-06-23 with total page 432 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion of Ceramic and Composite Materials, Second Edition is a primary source of guidance for the assessment, interpretation, and inhibition of corrosion phenomena. This book discusses all aspects of corrosion of ceramics, including environments, mechanisms, and materials, and the means to minimize or eliminate corrosion. The author compiles key findings and literature highlights from nearly a decade of scientific advancement, covering emerging techniques in corrosion analysis, characterization, and prediction. He provides at-a-glance coverage of national and international testing procedures for the evaluation of materials stability. The book covers the fundamentals of corrosion by gases, liquids, and solids of several ceramic materials including crystalline materials, glasses, composites, bioceramics, and advanced ceramics. It also discusses property/corrosion relationships and testing. The book collects a generous number of models, figures, and studies illustrating techniques to minimize and reduce the effects of various mechanisms contributing to the corrosion of civil, aerospace, and military structures. The second edition includes a review of all the current literature since publication of the first edition, an additional chapter on composites, and major sections added on bioceramics and weathering of construction materials. Corrosion of Ceramic and Composite Materials, Second Edition explains existing corrosion problems and offers an excellent guide to the design and development of corrosion-resistant structures.

Book Corrosion Testing for Metal Finishing

Download or read book Corrosion Testing for Metal Finishing written by V. E. Carter and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion Testing for Metal Finishing provides metal finishers with a range of test methods as well as guidance in the choice of method for a particular finish. There is a wide range of corrosion test methods available, the majority being the subject of Standard Specifications or being brought to Standards status. With many product Standards there is a choice of test methods available to met the Standard requirements. It is hoped that the relevant choice may be obtained more easily as a result of the information published in this book. The book outlines the apparatus and procedure for each test method and discusses its applicability to different metals and finishes. Indications are given of the nature and extent of the corrosion which develops in the test. Reference is also made to the relevant Standards for each test method. The book begins with a discussion of the basic requirements for corrosion testing of finished metal products. Subsequent chapters are devoted to testing procedures such as humidity tests, salt fog tests, industrial atmosphere test, porosity test, and anti-perspiration tests.

Book Letter Report on PCT Monolith Glass Ceramic Corrosion Tests

Download or read book Letter Report on PCT Monolith Glass Ceramic Corrosion Tests written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is collaborating with personnel from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) to study advanced waste form glass ceramics for immobilization of waste from Used Nuclear Fuel (UNF) separations processes. The glass ceramic waste forms take advantage of both crystalline and glassy phases where 'troublesome' elements (e.g., low solubility in glass or very long-lived) partition to highly durable ceramic phases with the remainder of elements residing in the glassy phase. The ceramic phases are tailored to create certain minerals or unique crystalline structures that can host the radionuclides by binding them in their specific crystalline network while not adversely impacting the residual glass network (Crum et al., 2011). Glass ceramics have been demonstrated using a scaled melter test performed in a pilot scale (1/4 scale) cold crucible induction melter (CCIM) (Crum et al., 2014; Maio et al., 2015). This report summarizes recent results from both Phase I and Phase II bench scale tests involving crucible fabrication and corrosion testing of glass ceramics using the Product Consistency Test (PCT). Preliminary results from both Phase I and Phase II bench scale tests involving statistically designed matrices have previously been reported (Crawford, 2013; Crawford, 2014).

Book Corrosion of Advanced Ceramics

Download or read book Corrosion of Advanced Ceramics written by K.G. Nickel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion behaviour is one of the most poorly understood characteristics of ceramics. A balanced mixture of scientists from material science, metallurgy, physics, chemistry and mineralogy sum up the state of the art of measurement and modelling and reveal future research directions. The book reviews the theory of corrosion of ceramics, including the diffusion of gases and the predictions of thermodynamics; it discusses critically the kinetic models and representation tools for layer growths and material destruction. Corrosion of nitrides, carbides and oxides by simple and complex gases (O2, H2O, SO2, halides) and melts (ionic and metallic) reveal current measurement and modelling methods, advanced experimental techniques, such as laser diagnostics, TV holography, Raman spectroscopy and NDE surface methods. Frontier areas (e.g. the modelling of porous materials corrosion and protection) are revealed. For scientists and engineers in materials science, dealing with ceramics and their application. A valuable source for research students, solid state physicists and physical chemists.
