Book Corresponding Influence

Download or read book Corresponding Influence written by Linda M. Morra and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emily Carr (1871-1945) is an iconic figure in Canadian culture, known internationally for her painting and her writing, which depicted the extraordinary British Columbia mountain landscape along with its indigenous inhabitants and their cultural iconography. Carr's writing career came later in her life, and as it developed, she met Ira Dilworth, the British Columbia Regional Director for CBC Radio who came to play a significant role in her life. Corresponding Influence is a collection of selected correspondence the two shared over the life of their friendship. Over the years, Dilworth acted variously as Carr's editor, writing agent, sounding board, professional and personal advisor, and most importantly, close friend and confidante. The letters provide a narrative for the latter part of Carr's life and illuminate the impression Dilworth made on the development of her writing. In addition to a critical introduction and annotation throughout, editor Linda Morra has included an unpublished story by Carr called "Small's Gold." Corresponding Influence will prove essential reading to anyone hoping to understand Emily Carr's extraordinary life and work.

Book Export Product Quality Renewable Energy and Sustainable Production

Download or read book Export Product Quality Renewable Energy and Sustainable Production written by Umer Shahzad and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-09-12 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic development has long been acknowledged for its beneficial effects on human well-being. In the context of economic globalization and vertical specialization, increasing the quality of export products is more critical and necessary to export success and sustainable development. The product's quality is inextricably linked to its manufacture and production, which need various types of energy and raw materials. Meanwhile, the adoption of more environmentally friendly and cleaner energy sources contributes to the achievement of sustainable production. Therefore, product quality may provide a new perspective from which to investigate the systematic relationship between greener and renewable energy sources, sustainable production and environmental regulations, as well as the nature of export competitiveness. Generally, export product quality has referred to the quality of manufactured products within the product lines. Quality refers to the relative price of a country's varieties within their respective product lines. Product sophistication assesses the composition of the aggregate exports. Different varieties of same product as per quality level are being produced by several developing and emerging economies. Within any given product line, quality converges both conditionally and unconditionally to the world's benchmark; increases in institutional quality and human capital are associated with faster quality upgrading. In turn, faster growth in quality is associated with more rapid output growth.

Book Proportional Liability Analytical and Comparative Perspectives

Download or read book Proportional Liability Analytical and Comparative Perspectives written by Israel Gilead and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Causal uncertainty is a wide-spread phenomenon. Courts are often unable to determine whether a defendant’s tortious conduct was a factual cause of a plaintiff’s harm. Yet, sometimes courts can determine the probability that the defendant caused the plaintiff’s harm, although often there is considerable variance in the probability estimate based on the available evidence. The conventional way to cope with this uncertainty has been to apply the evidentiary rule of ‘standard of proof’. The application of this ‘all or nothing’ rule can lead to unfairness by absolving defendants who acted tortiously and may also create undesirable incentives that result in greater wrongful conduct and injustice to victims. Some courts have decided that this ‘no-liability’ outcome is undesirable. They have adopted rules of proportional liability that compensate plaintiffs according to the probability that their harm was caused by the defendant’s tortious conduct. In 2005 the Principles of European Tort Law (PETL) made a breakthrough in this regard by embracing rules of proportional liability. This project, building on PETL, endeavours to make further inquiries into the desirable scope of proportional liability and to offer a more detailed view of its meaning, implications, and ramifications.
