Book Correlation of Weld Microstructures with Fracture Toughness of 18 Nickel 250 Grade Maraging Steel

Download or read book Correlation of Weld Microstructures with Fracture Toughness of 18 Nickel 250 Grade Maraging Steel written by J. B. TOBIAS and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A program designed to obtain a correlation between fracture toughness and microstructural features of 18% nickel maraging steel plate weldments prepared by various techniques has been partially completed. Results of this study have shown that the center-of-theweld possesses the lowest fracture toughness for all weldments and that the welding techniques giving rise to successively decreasing weldment fracture toughness may be listed as follows: Big Tig, Tig, Mig, and submerged-arc. Macrostructural and microstructural examinations of typical weldments, as well as examination of macro-topographies and micro-topographies of fractures of weldments prepared by these four techniques, have shown that submerged-arc weldments present lower resistance to crack travel than do the weldments of the multi-pass inert gas shield arc techniques. In addition, the embrittling and cracking problem in submerged-arc weldments have been tentatively associated with the formation of an ordering AlTi phase. (Author).

Book An Investigation of the Mechanical Properties and Microstructures of 18ni 250 Maraging Steel Weldments

Download or read book An Investigation of the Mechanical Properties and Microstructures of 18ni 250 Maraging Steel Weldments written by B. G. Reisdorf and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this project is to relate the microstructural features of 18Ni(250) maraging steel weldments to their fracture toughness properties. Fractographic examination of broken notch-bend test specimens from the fusion zones of both the tungsten-inert-gas (TIG) and the submerged-arc (SA) weldments indicates that the fracture proceeds primarily along the cell boundaries or dendrite interstices that were formed during solidification. These regions, being the last to solidify, are high in inclusion content, and electron-probe microanalyses show these regions to be enriched in Ni, Ti, and Mo. Approximately 90% of the fracture surface of the TIG weld specimens exhibited a dimpled structure indicative of a high level of fracture toughness, whereas only about 70% of the fracture surface of the SA weld specimens exhibited a dimpled fracture surface. Book Maraging Steels

Download or read book Maraging Steels written by W Sha and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-10-26 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maraging steels are high-strength steels combined with good toughness. They are used particularly in aerospace and tooling applications. Maraging refers to the ageing of martensite, a hard microstructure commonly found in steels.Maraging steels: modelling of microstructure, properties and applications covers the following topics: Introduction to maraging steels; Microstructure of maraging steels; Mechanical properties of maraging steels; Thermodynamic calculations for quantifying the phase fraction and element partition in maraging systems and precipitation hardening steels; Quantification of phase transformation kinetics in maraging steels; Quantification of age hardening in maraging steels; Maraging steels and overageing; Precipitation hardening stainless steel; Applications of artificial neural network on modelling maraging steel properties. With its distinguished authors, Maraging steels: modelling of microstructure, properties and applications is a standard reference for industry and researchers concerned with maraging steels and modelling as well as users of maraging steels in the aerospace and tooling sectors. The book includes both conventional maraging steels and precipitation hardened (PH) stainless steels. - Provides an overview of maraging steels including microstructure and mechanical properties - Reviews thermodynamic calculations for quantifying the phase fraction and element partition in maraging steels - Includes chapters on the quantification of phase transformation kinetics and age hardening in maraging steels

Book Investigation of 18 Per Cent Nickel Maraging Steel Welds by Transmission Electron Microscopy

Download or read book Investigation of 18 Per Cent Nickel Maraging Steel Welds by Transmission Electron Microscopy written by Robert Wilson Lowry and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 18% Nickel Maraging steel is playing an increasingly important role in welded structures because of its superior strength. To optimize weld properties, it is necessary to understand the detailed features of the weld microstructure. The techniques of transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction revealed microstructures and crystallographic data some of which were previously hypothesized but not observed. Dendritic and interdendritic structures are compared to that of the parent plate metal. The tungsten inert gas welding process does not appear to alter the response (precipitate formation) of the metal to heat treatment. Orientation relationships between weld phases were determined to be identical with the Kurdjumov-Sachs relationship. (Author).
