Book Managerial Ownership and Incentive Alignment

Download or read book Managerial Ownership and Incentive Alignment written by Phillip James Quinn and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mandatory stock ownership plans require executives to hold a minimum level of stock. I exploit these changes in managerial stock ownership to examine the relation between managerial ownership and manager-shareholder incentive alignment. In contrast to prior work that suggests equity incentives induce opportunistic managerial behavior, I find earnings management declines following the adoption of mandatory stock ownership plans relative to a propensity-matched control sample. I also posit and find a reduction in bid-ask spreads following plan adoptions, consistent with manager-shareholder incentive alignment improving market liquidity and decreasing information asymmetry. These findings are consistent with boards of directors contracting with managers to reduce the agency costs of equity.

Book Corporate Governance Ownership Structure and Firm Performance

Download or read book Corporate Governance Ownership Structure and Firm Performance written by Hoang N. Pham and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2022-01-24 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relationship between ownership structure and firm performance has been studied extensively in corporate finance and corporate governance literature. Nevertheless, the mediation (path) analysis to examine the issue can be adopted as a new approach to explain why and how ownership structure is related to firm performance and vice versa. This approach calls for full recognition of the roles of agency costs and corporate risk-taking as essential mediating variables in the bi-directional and mediated relationship between ownership structure and firm performance. Based on the agency theory, corporate risk management theory and accounting for the dynamic endogeneity in the ownership–performance relationship, this book develops two-mediator mediation models, including recursive and non-recursive mediation models, to investigate the ownership structure–firm performance relationship. It is demonstrated that agency costs and corporate risk-taking are the ‘missing links’ in the ownership structure–firm performance relationship. Hence, this book brings into attention the mediation and dynamic approach to this issue and enhances the knowledge of the mechanisms for improving firm’s financial performance. This book will be of interest to corporate finance, management and economics researchers and policy makers. Post-graduate research students in corporate governance and corporate finance will also find this book beneficial to the application of econometrics into multi-dimensional and complex issues of the firm, including ownership structure, agency problems, corporate risk management and financial performance.

Book Research Handbook on Executive Pay

Download or read book Research Handbook on Executive Pay written by John S. Beasley and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 553 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on executive compensation has exploded in recent years, and this volume of specially commissioned essays brings the reader up-to-date on all of the latest developments in the field. Leading corporate governance scholars from a range of countries set out their views on four main areas of executive compensation: the history and theory of executive compensation, the structure of executive pay, corporate governance and executive compensation, and international perspectives on executive pay. The authors analyze the two dominant theoretical approaches – managerial power theory and optimal contracting theory – and examine their impact on executive pay levels and the practices of concentrated and dispersed share ownership in corporations. The effectiveness of government regulation of executive pay and international executive pay practices in Australia, the US, Europe, China, India and Japan are also discussed. A timely study of a controversial topic, the Handbook will be an essential resource for students, scholars and practitioners of law, finance, business and accounting.

Book Stock Market Short Termism

Download or read book Stock Market Short Termism written by Kim M. Willey and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-07-12 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Consideration of harmful short-termism in capital markets is prevalent amongst legal and business academics. It is also garnering increased attention in corporate board rooms and executive suites, and from the investing public. As a result, correcting perceived short-termism in capital markets has become a rationale for reform used by regulators across the globe. Despite the considerable attention given to this phenomenon, there has not yet been a comprehensive book analyzing the perceived short-termism problem, its sources and causes, and reform efforts undertaken to date. This book fills this gap by documenting the rise of the short-termism discussion, analyzing the significance of the problem, and considering the proposed legal remedies. Based on this analysis, a framework for effective short-termism reform is offered.

Book Business Ethics

Download or read book Business Ethics written by K. Praveen Parboteeah and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-04-12 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business Ethics provides a thorough review and analysis of business ethics issues using several learning tools: Strategic Stakeholder Management as the Theme: All chapters use a strategic stakeholder approach as a unifying theme. The text is thus the first text that adopts this approach. Most business ethics scholars and practitioners agree that successful ethical companies are the ones that can strategically balance the needs of their various stakeholders. By adopting this approach, students will be able to see how the various aspects of business ethics are connected. Theory-based and Application-based: All chapters have important applicable theories integrated with discussion of how such theories apply in practice. Unlike other texts that are either too theoretical or too practical, this text provides the appropriate blend of theory and practice to provide deeper insights into the concepts covered in the chapter. Global Perspective: Unless most other texts, this text provides a global perspective on business ethics. Most chapters include material pertaining to ethics in global contexts. Included are cases about companies in a wide range of countries including Japan, U.K., China and India among many others. Cases: The text contains over 30 real world global cases. Each chapter ends with a short two page case as well as a longer case that varies in length. Each has discussions questions at the end. Finally each of the four parts ends with a Comprehensive Case; proven teaching cases from The Ivey School and other sources.
