Book Corporate Repentance And Producing It

Download or read book Corporate Repentance And Producing It written by James Tarter and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-03-13 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We can easily see a great need for many nations and churches to repent in order to get healthy and stay healthy. If we have taken this need seriously, then most likely we have already found that real progress seems disappointingly hard or impossible. We can be greatly encouraged by seeing in the Bible that God plans to transform huge groups of people through His believers in Jesus: whole localities, lands, nations, and people groups. We can also see that this repentance begins with a great repentance of His people in these groups. Producing corporate repentance causes special problems that God wants to solve through His children learning to work with Him, with each other, and with His better ways of living in Christ Jesus. The repentance of both His people in a huge group and the whole huge group goes far beyond what we have seen up to now.

Be the Bridge is THE tool I wish to put in every set of hands.”—Jen Hatmaker WINNER OF THE CHRISTIAN BOOK AWARD® • Winner of the Christianity Today Book Award • A leading advocate for racial reconciliation calls Christians to move toward deeper understanding in the midst of a divisive culture. In an era where we seem to be increasingly divided along racial lines, many are hesitant to step into the gap, fearful of saying or doing the wrong thing. At times the silence, particularly within the church, seems deafening. But change begins with an honest conversation among a group of Christians willing to give a voice to unspoken hurts, hidden fears, and mounting tensions. These ongoing dialogues have formed the foundation of a global movement called Be the Bridge—a nonprofit organization whose goal is to equip the church to have a distinctive and transformative response to racism and racial division. In this perspective-shifting book, founder Latasha Morrison shows how you can participate in this incredible work and replicate it in your own community. With conviction and grace, she examines the historical complexities of racism. She expertly applies biblical principles, such as lamentation, confession, and forgiveness, to lay the framework for restoration. Along with prayers, discussion questions, and other resources to enhance group engagement, Be the Bridge presents a compelling vision of what it means for every follower of Jesus to become a bridge builder—committed to pursuing justice and racial unity in light of the gospel.

Book O God Our Help in Ages Past

Download or read book O God Our Help in Ages Past written by Jeff Barnes and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-11-08 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s headlines daily confront us with the spectacle of a troubled world. Natural disasters, war, economic uncertainty, and many other issues have become part and parcel of our daily experience. Many, including those who bear the name of Christ, have lost hope in this climate. What are believers to do when confronted with the chaos of the present age? The answer can be found through a Christian engagement with history. Far from being an esoteric discipline to be studied by a learned few, a Christ-centered view of the past can transform the believer’s walk with God, providing comfort and hope in the face of the chaos that besets our world today. Through seeing the sovereign hand of God as it writes the human story, believers can question God in faith, better understand the divine purpose in suffering, more fully grasp their need for a Savior, repent from participation in present injustice, challenge the idol of nostalgia, and better understand our place within the kingdom of God.

Book The Last Segregated Hour

  • Author : Stephen R. Haynes
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press

  • ISBN : 0199911010

Download or read book The Last Segregated Hour written by Stephen R. Haynes and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2012-09-24 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On Palm Sunday 1964, at the Second Presbyterian Church in Memphis, a group of black and white students began a "kneel-in" to protest the church's policy of segregation, a protest that would continue in one form or another for more than a year and eventually force the church to open its doors to black worshippers. In The Last Segregated Hour, Stephen Haynes tells the story of this dramatic yet little studied tactic which was the strategy of choice for bringing attention to segregationist policies in Southern churches. "Kneel-ins" involved surprise visits to targeted churches, usually during Easter season, and often resulted in physical standoffs with resistant church people. The spectacle of kneeling worshippers barred from entering churches made for a powerful image that invited both local and national media attention. The Memphis kneel-ins of 1964-65 were unique in that the protesters included white students from the local Presbyterian college (Southwestern, now Rhodes). And because the protesting students presented themselves in groups that were "mixed" by race and gender, white church members saw the visitations as a hostile provocation and responded with unprecedented efforts to end them. But when Church officials pressured Southwestern president Peyton Rhodes to "call off" his students or risk financial reprisals, he responded that "Southwestern is not for sale." Drawing on a wide range of sources, including extensive interviews with the students who led the kneel-ins, Haynes tells an inspiring story that will appeal not only to scholars of religion and history, but also to pastors and church people concerned about fostering racially diverse congregations.

Book Bastion of Divine Truth

Download or read book Bastion of Divine Truth written by Riaan Engelbrecht and published by Riaan Engelbrecht. This book was released on 2023-01-20 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mankind stands at a most critical time. A deserted bell rings over a deserted field. It is a hollow sound, eerie, almost foreboding. It is the bell that one hears in the wake of death or at that moment of impending doom and danger. It is the toll that brings a chill to one’s bones. For when that forlorn watchman on a fortress wall hears that bell through misty currents, it is like a death grip unto the soul. The bell echoes the alarming truth that mankind has lost its true faith. A faith buried, tortured and left in the dungeon. We need to return to the Lord Jesus, His Ways, His Kingdom, His Life and Light as the world slips deeper into moral depravity and self-destruction. These are days of apostasy and heresy where the Truth of the Lord has been discarded and trampled upon, yet His Truth shall forever stand as a bastion - calling us home and providing refuge and shelter to those who believe, who hope and who trust in the Lord.

Book Critical Dilemma

  • Author : Neil Shenvi
  • Publisher : Harvest House Publishers
  • Release : 2023-10-03
  • ISBN : 073698870X
  • Pages : 530 pages

Download or read book Critical Dilemma written by Neil Shenvi and published by Harvest House Publishers. This book was released on 2023-10-03 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Where Are Critical Theory and the Social Justice Movement Taking Us? Critical theory and its expression in fields such as critical race theory, critical pedagogy, and queer theory are having a profound impact on our culture. Contemporary critical theory’s ideas about race, class, gender, identity, and justice have dramatically shaped how people think, act, and view one another—in Christian and secular spheres alike. In Critical Dilemma, authors Neil Shenvi and Pat Sawyer illuminate the origins and influences of contemporary critical theory, considering it in the light of clear reason and biblical orthodoxy. While acknowledging that it can provide some legitimate insights regarding race, class, and gender, Critical Dilemma exposes the false assumptions at the heart of critical theory, arguing that it poses a serious threat to both the church and society at large. Drawing on exhaustive research and careful analysis, Shenvi and Sawyer condemn racism, urge Christians to seek justice, and offer a path forward for racial healing and unity while also opposing critical theory’s manifold errors.

Book A PROPHECY for the UNITED STATES

Download or read book A PROPHECY for the UNITED STATES written by James Tarter and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010-04-09 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians have wondered why there is no prophecy about the United States in the Bible, because it prophesies much about the world today. In this book we can see clearly that God prophesies about the U.S. in Obadiah as the nation approaches choosing decisively for or against Jesus. Obadiah reveals two alternative futures: one will be chosen, which will also reject the other. One future is gross sin and a resulting just judgment of being destroyed forever from being a people. The other future is a wonderful transformation of the U.S. by joining itself to Christ Jesus as one of His national disciples. As the Bible shows, believers in Jesus within a land prepare (or fail to prepare) the U.S. or any nation to make the good choice. This book duplicates "God's Word to the United States" (don't buy both). "God's Just Judgment of a Nation" is a less specific picture that comes from a bigger Scripture: all 12 Minor Prophets.

Book The Last Great Outpouring

Download or read book The Last Great Outpouring written by R. Loren Sandford and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2020-08-18 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After four hundred years of prophetic silence, God sent John the Baptist to announce the coming of the Messiah, the baptism He would bring, and the in-breaking of the kingdom of God on earth. In response, people streamed to the Jordan River to hear John’s words and be baptized by him in the Jewish ritual mikveh bath for cleansing from sin and defilement. John’s calling was to prepare the people for the coming glory. Our God is nothing if not consistent—the same yesterday, today and forever. As in the days leading to the return of Jesus, He therefore continues to send messengers in advance to announce coming moves of the Spirit in order to prepare His people to receive. Author R. Loren Sandford believes God is about to do something huge, wonderful, and even unprecedented in scope and impact, and he is urging Christians everywhere to prepare for it. Beginning with the prophet Haggai and moving through the Bible, Loren lays a foundation for his belief that the time of the last great outpouring and the Lord’s return is now. He writes, “The church in our day has been ravaged and diminished in influence under pressure from the idolatrous culture that surrounds us and that, figuratively speaking, a remnant is even now returning from exile. It’s time to rebuild on a biblical foundation and construct a temple adequate to contain the outpouring God is about to send.” Loren says we must reject our present culture, which is steeped in consumerism and a focus on self, and return to a culture of covenant. The former has weakened and destroyed us, while the latter will edify and strengthen us. As John the Baptist came in the spirit and power of Elijah to prepare the way, prophetic voices are now rising to proclaim that the greatest outpouring of the Holy Spirit in history is coming. The great last days’ move of God approaches and the call for preparation now is the same as John preached so long ago. Through reliable prophetic voices, God now cries for holiness and cleansing to uproot everything in ourselves and in our churches not solidly rooted in the nature of Jesus and the Father.
