Download or read book Chemistry written by Richard S. Moog and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-06-26 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the newly updated 7th Edition, Chemistry: A Guided Inquiry continues to follow the underlying principles developed by years of extensive research on how students learn, and draws on testing by those using the POGIL methodology. This text follows the principles of inquiry-based learning and correspondingly emphasizes underlying chemistry concepts and the reasoning behind them. This text provides an approach that follows modern cognitive learning principles by having students learn how to create knowledge based on experimental data and how to test that knowledge.

Download or read book Theoretical Modelling Of Semiconductor Surfaces written by G P Srivastava and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-11-22 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The state-of-the-art theoretical studies of ground state properties, electronic states and atomic vibrations for bulk semiconductors and their surfaces by the application of the pseudopotential method are discussed. Studies of bulk and surface phonon modes have been extended by the application of the phenomenological bond charge model. The coverage of the material, especially of the rapidly growing and technologically important topics of surface reconstruction and chemisorption, is up-to-date and beyond what is currently available in book form. Although theoretical in nature, the book provides a good deal of discussion of available experimental results. Each chapter provides an adequate list of references, relevant for both theoretical and experimental studies. The presentation is coherent and self-contained, and is aimed at the postgraduate and postdoctoral levels.

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade the world's technological and industrial base has become increasingly dependent on advanced materials. There is every indication that this trend will accelerate and that progress in many areas will increasingly depend on the development of new materials and processing techniques. A second and equally significant trend is the continuing ascent of the information technologies, which now touch almost every aspect of life in some way. In this environment it is natural that there is a strong interest in using numerical modeling in materials science. With its extreme accuracy and reasonable computational efficiency, the linearized augmented plane wave (LAPW) method has emerged as the standard by which density functional calculations for transition metal and rare-earth containing materials are judged. Planewaves, Pseudopotentials and the LAPW Method presents a thorough and self-contained exposition of the LAPW method, making this powerful technique more accessible to researchers and students who have some familiarity with local density approximation calculations. Theory is discussed, but the emphasis is on how practical implementation proceeds. In addition, the author suggests future directions for adapting the LAPW method to simulations of complex materials requiring large unit cells. He does this by elucidating the connections between the LAPW method and planewave pseudopotential approaches and by showing how Car--Parrinello type algorithms can be adapted to the LAPW method. Planewaves, Pseudopotentials and the LAPW Method is a valuable resource for researchers already involved in electronic structure calculations, as well as for newcomers seeking quick mastery of the LAPW technique.

Download or read book Chemical Ideas written by George Burton and published by Heinemann. This book was released on 2000 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This advanced chemistry text has been updated to match the specification for A Level Chemistry from September 2000. The problems have been revised and graded to allow more differentiation, helping the teacher to teach students of a wide range of abilities. The new editions of all the texts in this series should make it easier for teachers to match their teaching to the new modular specification. There are new activities to cover ICT and key skills, and end-of-unit tests to give students practice.
Download or read book Computational Solid State Physics written by F. Herman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past 20 years, solid state physics has become one of the major branches of physics. 1-2 Today over one-third of all scientific articles published in physics deal with solid state 3 topics. During the last two decades, there has also been ra~id growth of scientific computation in a wide variety of fields. -5 The combination of solid state physics and comp~tation may be termed computational solid state physics. This emerging field is distin guished from theoretical solid state physics only to the extent that electronic computers rather than slide rules or backs of envelopes are used to solve numerical or logical problems, test scientific hypotheses, and discover the essential physical content of formal mathematical theories. Papers in computational solid state physics are widely scatter ed in the literature. They can be found in the traditional physics journals and review series, such as The Physical Review and Solid State Physics; in more specialized publications, such as Journal of Computational Physics, Computer Physics Communications, and Methods in Computational Physics; and in the proceedings of a number of re 6 9 cent conferences and seminar courses. - Plans for holding an International Symposium on Computational Solid State Physics in early October 1971 were formulated by Dr.
