Book Development of Ordered Mesoporous Nickel alumina Catalyst for Carbon Dioxide Methanation

Download or read book Development of Ordered Mesoporous Nickel alumina Catalyst for Carbon Dioxide Methanation written by Ali Aljishi and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Ordered mesoporous materials are one of the most promising catalysts nowadays due to their unique properties such as high surface area, large pore volume and ordered, amorphous structure. The strong interaction between the metal oxide and the support lead to high metal dispersion, which results in better catalytic activity and stability at high reaction temperatures. A series of ordered mesoporous nickel alumina catalysts were synthesized via the evaporation induced self-assembly technique. Varying synthesis parameters such as the type of acid, nickel loading, calcination temperature as well as synthesis method influenced the catalyst morphology and the catalytic activity towards CO2 methanation. Catalysts prepared without acid formed macroporous structures with a very low surface area (47 m2 g-1), whereas catalysts prepared using a mixture of hydrochloric and citric acid resulted in incomplete formation of mesoporous micelles with surface area of 173 m2 g-1. On the other hand, the usage of nitric acid lead to complete formation of long cylindrical micelles with surface areas up to 260 m2 g-1 and highly dispersed nickel clusters with an average size of 2.8 nm. An optimum calcination temperature of 700 °C was determined yielding the highest CO2 conversion and CH4 selectivity. Catalysts calcined at lower and higher temperatures had much smaller surface areas as well as lower catalytic activities. " --
