Book Coping with an Unexpected Pregnanacy

Download or read book Coping with an Unexpected Pregnanacy written by Alisha C. Butterfield and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teenage Pregnancy has been an issue that the United States has dealt with for years. The teen pregnancy rate in our country is much higher than it is in any other developed nation. When a young woman discovers that she is pregnant she has three options. Those options are keeping the child, adoption or abortion. There are outlet centers across the United States to help these girls, no matter what the decision is that they make. Approximately, 56% of teenage pregnancies end in birth. Most of the pregnancies that end in birth, result in the child living with their birth mother. Very few teenagers release their children for adoption. When a teen mother decides to keep her child, the chances of her finishing school drop dramatically. Abortion accounts for 30% of teenage pregnancies. Many times abortions are done when a young woman is afraid to tell her parents that she is pregnant. Many times abortion leads to depression in young women. Adoption is an option that is not widely used by teenage parents. For those who do use adoption, the results are usually positive. The young woman feels a sense of gratitude knowing that she helped a couple that may not have been able to have children otherwise. I explore these options and the agencies that help the young women make theirdecisions in more detail in the paper that follows.

Download or read book Handbook of Adolescent Health Risk Behavior written by Ralph J. DiClemente and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adolescence is a developmental period of accelerating physical, psychological, social! cultural, and cognitive development, often characterized by confronting and surmounting a myriad of challenges and establishing a sense of self-identity and autonomy. It is also, unfortunately, a period fraught with many threats to the health and well-being of adoles cents and with substantial consequent impairment and disability. Many of the adverse health consequences experienced by adolescents are, to a large extent, the result of their risk behaviors. Many adolescents today, and perhaps an increasing number in the future, are at risk for death, disease, and other adverse health outcomes that are not primarily biomedical in origin. In general, there has been a marked change in the causes of morbidity and mortality among adolescents. Previously, infectious diseases accounted for a dispro portionate share of adolescent morbidity and mortality. At present, however, the over whelming toll of adolescent morbidity and mortality is the result of lifestyle practices.
