Download or read book International Co operation in Civil and Criminal Matters written by John David McClean and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2002 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For over a century states have co-operated in providing evidence for use in civil trials in other countries. The growth of international crimes such as drug-trafficking, money-laundering, terrorism, and insider-trading now pose a substantial threat to the economies and stabilities of states, and governments and international organizations have been quick to expand past civil law experience into a variety of responses - both diplomatic and institutional - to the new international crimes. This new edition draws on recent international events, new legislation, and important developments under the aegis of the EC, but retains an important awareness of both civil and criminal dimensions. It will be a useful book to litigation professionals, legislators, and policy-makers.

Download or read book Insider Baseball written by Joan Didion and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Vintage Shorts Selection • Almost three decades ago, iconic and incomparable American essayist Joan Didion’s now-classic report from the Dukakis campaign trail exposed, in no uncertain terms, the complete sham that is the modern American presidential run. Writing with bite and some humor too, Didion betrays “the process”—the way in which power is exchanged and the status quo is maintained. All insiders—politicians, journalists, spin doctors—participate in a political narrative that is “designed as it is to maintain the illusion of consensus by obscuring rather than addressing actual issues.” The optics of presidential campaigns have grown ever more farcical and remote from the needs and issues most relevant to Americans’ lives, and Didion’s elegant, shrewd, and prescient commentary has never been more urgent than it is right now. An ebook short.

Download or read book Insider Trading The Laws of Europe the United States and Japan written by Emmanuel Gaillard and published by Springer. This book was released on 1992-02-10 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regulation of insider trading has changed dramatically in the past few years. In reaction to highly publicized insider trading scandals and the internationalization of securities markets, all European countries have recently either strengthened their existing rules (France and the United Kingdom) or implemented new rules (Denmark, Greece, The Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, and Italy). The United States continues to refine its insider trading regulations, and Japan has recently enacted legislation in this field. As a result of the increasingly international nature of insider trading, supervisory authorities throughout the world now closely coordinate their efforts. Drawing from the experience of law professors, governmental officials and practising lawyers, this book explores the regulations of eighteen countries in Europe, the United States and Japan, as well as the EC Directive Coordinating Regulations on Insider Dealing, and the Council of Europe's Convention on Insider Trading. This book is an indispensable tool for practising lawyers, legislators, academics, and international business and finance professionals. Combining legal doctrine and practical information, it analyzes, for each legal system, how insider trading is defined and controlled. Further, it addresses other stock-related infractions and international law issues such as jurisdiction and international cooperation.
Download or read book International Criminal Law written by Christine Wyngaert and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-09-09 with total page 2222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Criminal Law has become a mainstream subject. While it was hardly taught at law faculties at the time of the first edition of this book (1996), it is now highly featured in academic curricula. Practitioners, academics and political decision makers are increasingly confronted with this discipline. Within the framework of the United Nations and the European Union, but also in other regional bodies, there has been a dramatic increase in the conventions on various aspects of international criminal law. In fact much of the day-to-day work of lawyers around the globe is about the subject. International criminal law is gradually supple-menting human rights as the standard to assess governments and individuals. In the process, it has become part of the vocabulary of the general public. Many recent crisis situations have contributed to this phenomenon, from 11/9 and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to the Arab spring and SC Resolution 1973 (2011) giving effect to R2P in Libya. International criminal courts, which until some time ago, were still somewhat exotic, are now part of the mainstream international judicial establishment. The UN ad hoc tribunals together with the mixed tribunals and special courts have substantially con-tributed to the development of international criminal jurisprudence. Meanwhile the International Criminal Court is in full operation, delivering its first landmark decisions and dealing with an increasing number of situations and cases. In the European Union, the Lisbon Treaty is representing an important step towards the growing integration in the field of criminal law and procedure. A comparable trend is incipient in many other regions and organisations. This collection is meant to guide students and practitioners through the labyrinth of international criminal law instruments. It comprises international (universal) and Euro-pean conventions, while also including other regional instruments (AU/OAU, ASEAN, the Commonwealth, OAS and SAARC).
