Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a pleasure to present this volume consisting of a selection of papers presented at the 4th International Drying Symposium (IDS) held in Kyoto, July 9-12, 1984, under the sponsorship of the Society of Chemi cal Engineers, Japan. This book includes full texts of the ten keynote lectures and several papers which were presented in the technical sessions in the 4th IDS. As editors we had the arduous and unpleasant task of selecting papers for this volume. We were delighted with the high quality manuscripts sub mitted. We are grateful to the authors for their efforts in meeting the manuscript guidelines and also the deadlines. Aside from quality, we have attempted to maintain in this volume a balance of coverage in terms of topics as well as geography. Space restrictions prevented us from presenting all the high quality papers for publication in DRYING 85. Numerous papers of archival interest have been released for general publication in international journals. Several will no doubt appear in Drying Technology - An International Journal. Many others will find their way into other standard engineering journals as well. Over 120 papers from 30 countries were included in the Proceedings volumes distributed to all registrants in Kyoto. Numerous individuals, professional societies and organizations have contributed, directly or indirectly, to the success of the 4th IDS and hence to DRYING 85 as well. We wish to acknowledge in particular the monumental efforts of the Secretary of the 4th IDS, Professor M. Okazaki.

Book Physical and Computational Aspects of Convective Heat Transfer

Download or read book Physical and Computational Aspects of Convective Heat Transfer written by T. Cebeci and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is concerned with the transport of thermal energy in flows of practical significance. The temperature distributions which result from convective heat transfer, in contrast to those associated with radiation heat transfer and conduction in solids, are related to velocity characteristics and we have included sufficient information of momentum transfer to make the book self-contained. This is readily achieved because of the close relation ship between the equations which represent conservation of momentum and energy: it is very desirable since convective heat transfer involves flows with large temperature differences, where the equations are coupled through an equation of state, as well as flows with small temperature differences where the energy equation is dependent on the momentum equation but the momentum equation is assumed independent of the energy equation. The equations which represent the conservation of scalar properties, including thermal energy, species concentration and particle number density can be identical in form and solutions obtained in terms of one dependent variable can represent those of another. Thus, although the discussion and arguments of this book are expressed in terms of heat transfer, they are relevant to problems of mass and particle transport. Care is required, however, in making use of these analogies since, for example, identical boundary conditions are not usually achieved in practice and mass transfer can involve more than one dependent variable.

Book Analysis of Impingement Heat Transfer for Two Parallel Liquid metal Slot Jets

Download or read book Analysis of Impingement Heat Transfer for Two Parallel Liquid metal Slot Jets written by Robert Siegel and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical method is developed for determining heat transfer by impinging liquid-metal slot jets. The method involves mapping the jet flow region, which is bounded by free streamlines, into a potential plane where it becomes a uniform flow in a channel of constant width. The energy equation is transformed into potential plane coordinates and is solved in the channel flow region. Conformal mapping is then used to transform the solution back into the physical plane and obtain the desired heat-transfer characteristics. The analysis given here determines the heat-transfer characteristics for two parallel liquid-metal slot jets impinging normally against a uniformly heated flat plate. The liquid-metal assumptions are made that the jets are inviscid and that molecular conduction is dominating heat diffusion. Wall temperature distributions along the heated plate are obtained as a function of spacing between the jets and the jet Peclet number.

Book Heat Transfer Analysis of Slot Jet Impingement Onto Roughened Surfaces

Download or read book Heat Transfer Analysis of Slot Jet Impingement Onto Roughened Surfaces written by Rashid Ali Alshatti and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of surface roughness on jet impingement heat transfer was investigated in this research. A numerical analysis was conducted for free surface slot jet impinging normally onto a heated plate. Six different geometries and three different plate materials were investigated. The cooling fluid used for the analysis was water, and the flow was laminar with a range of Reynolds number (Re) from 500 to 1000. Temperature distribution, local and average heat transfer coefficient, and local and average Nusselt number were presented for each case. The steady state heat transfer results show that the increase in Reynolds number (Re) increases the local heat transfer coefficient and the local Nusselt number. Impinging the jet nozzle directly onto a step has a better heat transfer enhancement than impinging the jet nozzle in between steps. Materials with low thermal conductivity exhibit large variation in temperature along the solid-fluid interface. The variations of the interface temperature become smaller between all cases when applying the isothermal boundary condition. The transient heat transfer results show that the temperature of the interface increases with time until steady state condition is met. Materials with high thermal diffusivity reach the steady state condition with less time. The increase in surface roughness increases the time required to reach the steady state condition. The highest rates of heat transfer were found at locations where no fluid recirculation occurs. It takes less time to reach steady state condition when applying the isothermal boundary condition at the bottom surface of the plate.

Book Convective Heat Transfer

Download or read book Convective Heat Transfer written by I. Pop and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-02-23 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in studying the phenomena of convective heat and mass transfer between an ambient fluid and a body which is immersed in it stems both from fundamental considerations, such as the development of better insights into the nature of the underlying physical processes which take place, and from practical considerations, such as the fact that these idealised configurations serve as a launching pad for modelling the analogous transfer processes in more realistic physical systems. Such idealised geometries also provide a test ground for checking the validity of theoretical analyses. Consequently, an immense research effort has been expended in exploring and understanding the convective heat and mass transfer processes between a fluid and submerged objects of various shapes. Among several geometries which have received considerable attention are plates, circular and elliptical cylinders, and spheres, although much information is also available for some other bodies, such as corrugated surfaces or bodies of relatively complicated shapes. The book is a unified progress report which captures the spirit of the work in progress in boundary-layer heat transfer research and also identifies potential difficulties and areas for further study. In addition, this work provides new material on convective heat and mass transfer, as well as a fresh look at basic methods in heat transfer. Extensive references are included in order to stimulate further studies of the problems considered. A state-of-the-art picture of boundary-layer heat transfer today is presented by listing and commenting also upon the most recent successful efforts and identifying the needs for further research.
