Book Convective Heat transfer Rates on Large scale Conical Bodies at Hypersonic Speeds

Download or read book Convective Heat transfer Rates on Large scale Conical Bodies at Hypersonic Speeds written by David Alexander Stewart and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat-transfer rates were measured on large-angle conical bodies with large half-angles between 50 degrees and 90 degrees, at angles of attack from 0 degrees. The results at 0 degree angle of attack were predicted with Lees' similarity theory, using calculated flow properties at the boundary-layer edge. The calculated flow properties were obtained from Newtonian theory for the 50 degree cone and from a one- or two-strip solution using the method of integral relations for other cones. At 0 degree angle of attack, an increase in cone angle resulted in a decrease in the heating rate over much of the body. However, high heating rates occurred at the shoulder of the both the half-angle = 80 degree and half-angle =90 degree shapes because of local pressure gradients. On the windward side of the cones, the heating rate increased with angle of attack.

Book Comparisons of Experimental and Theoretical Heat Transfer to a Yawed Sphere cone Model at Supersonic Speeds

Download or read book Comparisons of Experimental and Theoretical Heat Transfer to a Yawed Sphere cone Model at Supersonic Speeds written by Lionel Pasiuk and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical laminar heat transfer rates to a sphere-cone model at angles of yaw up to 18 degrees are compared with wind tunnel data measured at Mach numbers of 3.2 and 4.8. Two methods of heat transfer prediction have been chosen--the methods of Beckwith and VaglioLaurin. These require that the inviscid streamline pattern on the surface of the yawed spherecone model be known. These steamlines have been calculated from measured surface pressure distributions. The theory of Beckwith agrees reasonably well with the experimental data.

Book Measurements of Hypersonic Turbulent Heat Transfer on a Highly Cooled Cone

Download or read book Measurements of Hypersonic Turbulent Heat Transfer on a Highly Cooled Cone written by Donald M. Wilson and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbulent boundary layer heat transfer rates were measured on a thin-walled slender cone at a free-stream Mach number of 5.0. Wall to stagnation temperature ratios from 0.15 to 0.40 were obtained by pre-cooling the model using liquid nitrogen. Tests at a wide range of Reynolds numbers were conducted by varying the tunnel supply pressure; thus providing data for both laminar and mixed laminar-turbulent types of boundary layers. The experimental results obtained were compared with existing theories which predict convective heat transfer coefficients. These comparisons indicate that the data corresponding to a 760R supply temperature verify the predictions of Winkler and Cha; however, data acquired at a supply temperature of 1160R substantiate the predictions of Spalding and Chi.
