Book Control Pipeline Pressure Surges

Download or read book Control Pipeline Pressure Surges written by Chris and published by Tredition Gmbh. This book was released on 2024-05-22 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pipeline pressure surges, those sudden spikes, can wreak havoc. But fear not, engineers have tools to control this beast. One approach is designing the system itself. Using larger diameter pipes allows fluid to flow at a slower pace, reducing pressure buildup. Additionally, strategically placed surge tanks act as buffers, absorbing excess pressure during surges. For existing pipelines, pressure relief valves become the heroes. These fast-acting valves open when pressure exceeds a set limit, diverting excess fluid and preventing pipe damage. They then reseal when pressure normalizes. By implementing these strategies, engineers can ensure pipelines operate smoothly, safeguarding them from damaging pressure surges

Book Subsea Pipelines and Risers

Download or read book Subsea Pipelines and Risers written by Yong Bai and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 850 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marine pipelines for the transportation of oil and gas have become a safe and reliable part of the expanding infrastructure put in place for the development of the valuable resources below the worlds seas and oceans. The design of these pipelines is a relatively new technology and continues to evolve as the design of more cost effective pipelines becomes a priority and applications move into deeper waters and more hostile environments. This updated edition of a best selling title provides the reader with a scope and depth of detail related to the design of offshore pipelines and risers not seen before in a textbook format. With over 25years experience, Professor Yong Bai has been able to assimilate the essence of the applied mechanics aspects of offshore pipeline system design in a form of value to students and designers alike. It represents an excellent source of up to date practices and knowledge to help equip those who wish to be part of the exciting future of this industry.

Book SURGE ANALYSIS AND THE WAVE PLAN METHOD

Download or read book SURGE ANALYSIS AND THE WAVE PLAN METHOD written by Srinivasa Lingireddy and published by KYPipe LLC. This book was released on 2021-06-14 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book describes the causes and effects of transient (water hammer) events in liquid-filled pipes, and describes how the powerful and stable Wave Plan Method (WPM) can be used to address transients during surge modeling. The authors compare and contrast WPM with the Method of Characteristics (MOC), which is the other widely-used surge analysis tool. While MOC can be useful for many situations, the larger and more complex a model becomes, the more the computational efficiency of WPM is necessary to avoid longer and longer analysis times. The authors also describe how WPM is more generalizable than MOC, which is a term that describes a suite of tools consisting of several variants that were developed to address different modeling situations. This book provides details on surge modeling in general and the use of WPM in particular. This includes pressure attenuation, determination of wave speeds in different pipe types and various liquid media, pump and turbine characteristics curves, and the effects of boundary conditions. The discussion of boundary conditions includes an extensive look at the effects of the air-water interface as it applies to bulk air intrusion into pipelines, and as it relates to the use of air/vacuum valves as surge protection. The authors discuss surge protection design for different real-world scenarios, and how to model of a full list of surge control devices, including a detailed discussion of check valves. Last, the book describes the assumptions and uncertainties encountered during data collection and model building, and examines the potential effect of these uncertainties. Where uncertainties cannot be mitigated, the authors discuss ways to increase the safety factor of surge protection designs.

Book Control of Surge in Centrifugal Compressors by Active Magnetic Bearings

Download or read book Control of Surge in Centrifugal Compressors by Active Magnetic Bearings written by Se Young Yoon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-06-19 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surge Control of Active-magnetic-bearing-suspended Centrifugal Compressors sets out the fundamentals of integrating active magnetic bearing (AMB) rotor suspension technology in compressor systems, and describes how this relatively new bearing technology can be employed in active control of compressor surge initiation. The authors provide a self-contained and comprehensive review of rotordynamics and the fundamentals of AMB technology. The active stabilization of compressor surge employing AMBs in a machine is fully explored, from modeling of instability and controller design, to the implementation and experimental testing of the control algorithm in a specially-constructed, industrial-size centrifugal compression system. The results of these tests demonstrate the great potential of the new surge control method suggested in this text. This book will be useful for engineers in industries that involve turbocompressors and magnetic bearings, as well as for researchers and graduate students in the field of applied control. Whatever their level of experience, engineers working in the fields of turbomachinery, magnetic bearings, rotordynamics and controls will find the material in this book absorbing as all these important aspects of engineering are integrated to create a multi-disciplinary solution to a real-life industrial problem and the book is a suitable introduction to the area for newcomers.

Download or read book The Effect on Pressure Surges of Pipeline Termination written by John Saferian Bradbury and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The fact that a water hammer blow effect is experienced in an enclosed line when the water flow is stopped has been well known to engineers from as long ago as the 17th Century. However, until comparatively recent years, there has been no record of any attempt to solve the problem directly. The most common approach has been that of "solution by avoidance of the difficulty".
