Book Control of Quadcopter UAV by Nonlinear Feedback

Download or read book Control of Quadcopter UAV by Nonlinear Feedback written by Haoquan Ye and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quadcopter, also called a quadrotor helicopter or quadrotor, is a popular small-scale UAV that has been used for a variety of applications such as photography, monitoring, surveillance and inspection, etc. It needs reliable hardware and control systems to guarantee its performance in various missions. Therefore, developing effective control algorithms is vital for the performance and applications of quadcopters. In this thesis, a nonlinear control method is proposed and a smooth state feedback controller is designed to achieve attitude control and stabilization of the quadcopter. First, we study the dynamics of a quadcopter and establish a mathematical model in state space. Then, with the help of a transformation that puts the quadcopter model into a nonlinear system in the normal form, we design a smooth state feedback controller by taking advantage of the nonlinearity of the quadcopter, combined with the techniques of adding an integrator and feedback linearization. Finally, MATLAB simulations are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed nonlinear controller. The simulations results demonstrate that the new control scheme has a satisfactory dynamic performance and certain robustness against wind disturbance.

This book was released on 2021-09-14 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies selected advanced flight control schemes for an uncertain quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems in the presence of constant external disturbances, parametric uncertainties, measurement noise, time-varying external disturbances, and random external disturbances. Furthermore, in all the control techniques proposed in this book, it includes the simulation results with comparison to other nonlinear control schemes recently developed for the tracking control of a quadrotor UAV. The main contributions of the present book for quadrotor UAV systems are as follows: (i) the proposed control methods are based on the high-order sliding mode controller (SMC) and hybrid control algorithm with an optimization method. (ii) the finite-time control schemes are developed by using fast terminal SMC (FTSMC), nonsingular FTSMC (NFTSMC), global time-varying SMC, and adaptive laws. (iii) the fractional-order flight control schemes are developed by using the fractional-order calculus theory, super twisting algorithm, NFTSMC, and the SMC. This book covers the research history and importance of quadrotor system subject to system uncertainties, external wind disturbances, and noise measurements, as well as the research status of advanced flight control methods, adaptive flight control methods, and flight control based on fractional-order theory. The book would be interesting to most academic undergraduate, postgraduates, researchers on flight control for drones and applications of advanced controllers in engineering field. This book presents a must-survey for advanced finite-time control for quadrotor system. Some parts of this book have the potential of becoming the courses for the modelling and control of autonomous flying machines. Readers (academic researcher, undergraduate student, postgraduate student, MBA/executive, and education practitioner) interested in nonlinear control methods find this book an investigation. This book can be used as a good reference for the academic research on the control theory, drones, terminal sliding mode control, and related to this or used in Ph.D. study of control theory and their application in field engineering.

Book Advanced UAVs Nonlinear Control Systems and Applications

Download or read book Advanced UAVs Nonlinear Control Systems and Applications written by Abdulkader Joukhadar and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent development of different control systems for UAVs has caught the attention of academic and industry, due to the wide range of their applications such as in surveillance, delivery, work assistant, and photography. In addition, arms, grippers, or tethers could be installed to UAVs so that they can assist in constructing, transporting, and carrying payloads. In this book chapter, the control laws of the attitude and position of a quadcopter UAV have been derived basically utilizing three methods including backstepping, sliding mode control, and feedback linearization incorporated with LQI optimal controller. The main contribution of this book chapter would be concluded in the strategy of deriving the control laws of the translational positions of a quadcopter UAV. The control laws for trajectory tracking using the proposed strategies have been validated by simulation using MATLAB®/Simulink and experimental results obtained from a quadcopter test bench. Simulation results show a comparison between the performances of each of the proposed techniques depending on the nonlinear model of the quadcopter system under investigation; the trajectory tracking has been achieved properly for different types of trajectories, i.e., spiral trajectory, in the presence of unknown disturbances. Moreover, the practical results coincided with the results of the simulation results.

Book Output Feedback Tracking Control of an Underactuated Quad Rotor UAV

Download or read book Output Feedback Tracking Control of an Underactuated Quad Rotor UAV written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper proposes a new controller for an underactuated quad-rotor family of small-scale unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using output feedback (OFB). Specifically, an observer is designed to estimate the velocities and an output feedback controller is designed for a nonlinear UAV system in which only position and angles are measurable. The design is performed via a Lyapunov type analysis. A semi-global uniformly ultimate bounded (SGUUB) tracking result is achieved. Simulation results are shown to demonstrate the proposed approach.

Book Nonlinear and Fault tolerant Control Techniques for a Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Download or read book Nonlinear and Fault tolerant Control Techniques for a Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle written by Tong Li and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have become more and more popular, and how to control them has become crucial. Although there are many different control methods that can be applied to the control of UAVs, nonlinear control techniques are more practical since the nonlinear features of most UAVs. In this thesis, as the first main contribution, three widely used nonlinear control techniques including Feedback Linearization Control (FLC), Sliding Mode Control (SMC), and Backstepping Control (BSC) are discussed, investigated, and designed in details and flight-tested on a unique quadrotor UAV (Qball-X4) test-bed available at the Networked Autonomous Vehicles (NAV) Lab in Concordia University. Each of these three control algorithms has its own features. The advantages and disadvantages are revealed through both simulation and experimental tests. Sliding mode control is well known for its capability of handling uncertainty, and is expected to be a robust controller on Qball-X4 UAV. Feedback linearization control and backstepping control are considered a bit weaker than sliding mode control. A comparison of these three controllers is carried out in both theoretical analysis and experimental results under same fault-free flight conditions. Testing results and comparison show the different features of different control methods, and provide a view on how to choose controller under a specific condition. Besides, safety and reliability of UAVs have been and will always be a critical issue in the aviation industry. Fault-Tolerant Control (FTC) has played an extremely important role towards UAVs' safety and reliability and the safety of group people if an unexpected crash occurred due to faults/damages of UAVs. Therefore, FTC has been a very active and quickly growing research and development field for UAVs and other safety-critical systems. Based on the use of sliding mode control technique, referred to as Fault-Tolerant SMC (FT-SMC) have been investigated, implemented, flight-tested and compared in the Qball-X4 test-bed and also simulation environment in both passive and active framework of FTC in the presence of different actuator faults/damages, as the second main contribution of this thesis work.

Book Nonlinear Control of Fixed Wing UAVs with Time Varying and Unstructured Uncertainties

Download or read book Nonlinear Control of Fixed Wing UAVs with Time Varying and Unstructured Uncertainties written by Michail G. Michailidis and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-21 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces a comprehensive and mathematically rigorous controller design for families of nonlinear systems with time-varying parameters and unstructured uncertainties. Although the presented methodology is general, the specific family of systems considered is the latest, NextGen, unconventional fixed-wing unmanned aircraft with circulation control or morphing wings, or a combination of both. The approach considers various sources of model and parameter uncertainty, while the controller design depends not on a nominal plant model, but instead on a family of admissible plants. In contrast to existing controller designs that consider multiple models and multiple controllers, the proposed approach is based on the ‘one controller fits all models’ within the unstructured uncertainty interval. The book presents a modeling-based analysis and synthesis approach with additive uncertainty weighting functions for accurate realization of the candidate systems. This differs significantly from existing designs in that it is capable of handling time-varying characteristics. This research monograph is suitable for scientists, engineers, researchers and graduate students with a background in control system theory who are interested in complex engineering nonlinear systems.

Book Fast Nonlinear Model Predictive Control of Quadrotors

Download or read book Fast Nonlinear Model Predictive Control of Quadrotors written by Hadi Mohammadi Daniali and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quadrotor (or quadcopter) is a type of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Due to the quadrotors simple and inexpensive design, they have become popular platforms. This thesis proposes a computationally fast scheme for implementing Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) as a high-level controller to solve the path following problem for unmanned quadrotors. After discussing the background and reviewing the literature, it is noted that this problem referred widely in the literature as a necessary step toward the autonomous flight of quadrotor UAVs. The previous studies usually used simplified models which are computationally uncomplicated and straightforward in terms of control developments and stability investigations. Moreover, some articles are presented showing the importance of accurate state observation on the performance of feedback-based control approaches. The NMPC-based controller is designed using a more realistic highly nonlinear control-oriented model which requires heavy computations for practical real-time implementations. To deal with this issue, the Newton generalized minimal residual (Newton/GMRES) method is applied to solve the NMPC's real-time optimizations rapidly during the control process. This technique uses the Hamiltonian method to derive a set of equations with multiple variables. To solve these in a real-time application, the Newton/GMRES method applies forward-difference generalized minimal residual (fdgmres) algorithm. The simulation and experimental result using a commercial drone, called AR.Drone 2.0, in our laboratory instrumented by a Vicon Vantage motion capture system, demonstrate that our feedback-based control method's performance highly depends on the reliability of the state vector feedback signals. As a result, a Kalman filter and Luenberger observer algorithms are used for estimating unknown states. The NMPC-based controller operation is simulated, and the result reveals the similar efficiency of observers. Moreover, the NMPC control approach is compared with a proportional controller which shows great improvements in the response of the quadrotor. The experiment showed that our control method is sufficiently fast for practical implementations, and it can solve the trajectory tracking problem properly even for complex paths. This thesis is concluded by stating a summary of contributions and some potential future works.

Download or read book Quadcopter written by Khaled Mahmoud Abouelsoud and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: A quadcopter is a type of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The industry of this type of UAVs is growing exponentially in terms of new technology development and the increase of potential applications that may cover construction inspections, search and rescue, surveillance, aerial photography, monitoring, mapping, etc. A quadcopter is a nonlinear and under-actuated system that introduces complex aerodynamics properties and create challenges which demands the development of new, reliable and effective control techniques to enhance the stability of flight control, plan and track a desired trajectory while minimizing the effect induced by the operational environment and its own sensors. Hence, many control techniques have been developed and researched. Some of such developments work well with the provision of having an accurate mathematical model of the system while other work is associated with a mathematical mode l that can accommodate certain level of wind disturbances and uncertainties related to measurement noise. Moreover, various linear, nonlinear and intelligent control techniques were developed and recognized in the literature. Each one of such control TEchniques has some aspect that excels in under certain conditions. The focus of this thesis is to develop different control techniques that can improve flight control stability, trajectory tracking of a quadcopter and evaluate their performance to select the best suitable control technique that can realize the stated technical flight control requirements. Accordingly, three main techniques have been developed: Standard pid,Fuzzy based control technique that tune PID parameters in real time (FPID) and a hybrid control strategy that consists of three control techniques: (A) FPID with state coordinates transformation (B) State feedback (C) Sliding mode the configuration of the hybrid control strategy consists of two control loops. The inner control loop aims to control the quadcopter’s attitude and altitude while the outer control loopaims to control the quadcopter’s position. Two configurations were used to configure the developed control techniques of the control loops. These configurations are: (A) A sliding mode control is used for the outer loop while for the inner loop two control techniques are used to realize it: a Fuzzy gain scheduled PID with state coordinates transformation and a state feedback control. (B) Fuzzy gain scheduled PID control is used for the outer loop while for the inner loop two control techniques are used to realize it using the same formation as in (a) above. Furthermore, in order to ensure a feasible desired trajectory before tracking it, a trajectory planning algorithm has been developed and tested successfully. Subsequently, a simulation testing environment with friendly graphical User Interface (GUI) has been developed to simulate the quadcopter mathematical model and then to use it as a test bed to validate the developed control techniques with and without the effect of wind disturbance and measurement noise. The quadcopter with each control technique has been tested using the simulation environment under different operational conditions. The results in terms of tracking a desired trajectory shows the robustness of the first configuration of control techniques within the hybrid control strategy under the presence of wind disturbance and measurement noise compared to all the other techniques developed. Then, the second configuration of the control techniques came second in terms of results quality. The third and fourth results in the sequence shown by the fuzzy scheduled PID and the standard PID respectively. Finally, Validating the simulation results on a real system, a quadcopter has been successfully designed, implemented and tested. The developed control techniques were tested using the implemented quadcopter and the results were demonstrated and compared with the simulation results.

Book Data Driven Controller Design

Download or read book Data Driven Controller Design written by Alexandre Sanfelice Bazanella and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-11-16 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data-Based Controller Design presents a comprehensive analysis of data-based control design. It brings together the different data-based design methods that have been presented in the literature since the late 1990’s. To the best knowledge of the author, these data-based design methods have never been collected in a single text, analyzed in depth or compared to each other, and this severely limits their widespread application. In this book these methods will be presented under a common theoretical framework, which fits also a large family of adaptive control methods: the MRAC (Model Reference Adaptive Control) methods. This common theoretical framework has been developed and presented very recently. The book is primarily intended for PhD students and researchers - senior or junior - in control systems. It should serve as teaching material for data-based and adaptive control courses at the graduate level, as well as for reference material for PhD theses. It should also be useful for advanced engineers willing to apply data-based design. As a matter of fact, the concepts in this book are being used, under the author’s supervision, for developing new software products in a automation company. The book will present simulation examples along the text. Practical applications of the concepts and methodologies will be presented in a specific chapter.

Book Nonlinear Dynamics and Control of Aerial Robots

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamics and Control of Aerial Robots written by Mahmut Reyhanoglu and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aerial robotics is one of the fastest growing industry and has a number of evolving applications. Higher agility make aerial robots ideal candidate for applications like rescue missions especially in difficult to access areas. This chapter first derives the complete nonlinear dynamics of an aerial robot consisting of a quadcopter with a two-link robot manipulator. Precise control of such an aerial robot is a challenging task due to the fact that the translational and rotational dynamics of the quadcopter are strongly coupled with the dynamics of the manipulator. We extend our previous results on the control of quadrotor UAVs to the control of aerial robots. In particular, we design a backstepping and Lyapunov-based nonlinear feedback control law that achieves point-to-point control of the areal robot. The effectiveness of this feedback control law is illustrated through a simulation example.
