This book was released on 2018-07-08 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of a control system for the Da Vinci 2 human-powered helicopter in hovering flight is documented. This helicopter has two very large, slowly rotating rotor blades and is considered to be unstable in hover. The control system is designed to introduce stability in hover by maintaining level rotors through the use of rotor tip mounted control surfaces. A five degree of freedom kinematic model was developed to study this control system and is documented. Results of this study show that the unaugmented configuration is unstable due to the large Lock Number, and the augmented configuration is stable. The role of NASA in this study included the development and analysis of the kinematic model and control laws. Both analytical and numerical techniques were used. Book Principles of Helicopter Aerodynamics with CD Extra

Download or read book Principles of Helicopter Aerodynamics with CD Extra written by Gordon J. Leishman and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-04-24 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an internationally recognized teacher and researcher, this book provides a thorough, modern treatment of the aerodynamic principles of helicopters and other rotating-wing vertical lift aircraft such as tilt rotors and autogiros. The text begins with a unique technical history of helicopter flight, and then covers basic methods of rotor aerodynamic analysis, and related issues associated with the performance of the helicopter and its aerodynamic design. It goes on to cover more advanced topics in helicopter aerodynamics, including airfoil flows, unsteady aerodynamics, dynamic stall, and rotor wakes, and rotor-airframe aerodynamic interactions, with final chapters on autogiros and advanced methods of helicopter aerodynamic analysis. Extensively illustrated throughout, each chapter includes a set of homework problems. Advanced undergraduate and graduate students, practising engineers, and researchers will welcome this thoroughly revised and updated text on rotating-wing aerodynamics.

Download or read book Engineered Biomimicry written by Akhlesh Lakhtakia and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-05-24 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineered Biomimicry covers a broad range of research topics in the emerging discipline of biomimicry. Biologically inspired science and technology, using the principles of math and physics, has led to the development of products as ubiquitous as VelcroTM (modeled after the spiny hooks on plant seeds and fruits). Readers will learn to take ideas and concepts like this from nature, implement them in research, and understand and explain diverse phenomena and their related functions. From bioinspired computing and medical products to biomimetic applications like artificial muscles, MEMS, textiles and vision sensors, Engineered Biomimicry explores a wide range of technologies informed by living natural systems. Engineered Biomimicry helps physicists, engineers and material scientists seek solutions in nature to the most pressing technical problems of our times, while providing a solid understanding of the important role of biophysics. Some physical applications include adhesion superhydrophobicity and self-cleaning, structural coloration, photonic devices, biomaterials and composite materials, sensor systems, robotics and locomotion, and ultra-lightweight structures. Explores biomimicry, a fast-growing, cross-disciplinary field in which researchers study biological activities in nature to make critical advancements in science and engineering Introduces bioinspiration, biomimetics, and bioreplication, and provides biological background and practical applications for each Cutting-edge topics include bio-inspired robotics, microflyers, surface modification and more
