Book Contribution to the Theory of Two phase One component Critical Flow

Download or read book Contribution to the Theory of Two phase One component Critical Flow written by Hans K. Fauske and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equipment was built where critical-flow data above 100 psia were obtained and a theory developed that predicts the experimental values satisfactorily. Theoretical expressions for the specific volume, void fraction, and slip ratio for critical steam-water mixtures have been derived. Therefore, the first complete analytical solution was made possible for estimating the critical two-phase flow rate, including slip between the two phases. The pressure profiles for runs at critical flow were all characterized by extremely steep pressure gradients near the throat; however, the pressure gradients are definitely finite and approach absolute maximum values, these depending only upon critical flow rate and quality. Sonic velocities are not achieved in critical two-phase flow of steam-water mixtures.

Book Advances in Two Phase Flow and Heat Transfer

Download or read book Advances in Two Phase Flow and Heat Transfer written by Sadik Kakaç and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past two decades, two-phase flow and heat transfer problems associated with two-phase phenomena have been a challenge to many investigators. Two-phase flow applications are found in a wide range of engineering systems, such as nuclear and conventional power plants, evaporators of refrigeration systems and a wide vari ety of evaporative and condensive heat exchangers in the chemical industry. This publication is based on the invited lectures presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on the Advances in Two-Phase Flow and Heat Transfer. The Horkshop was attended by more than 50 leading scientists and practicing engineers who work actively on two-phase flow and heat transfer research and applications in dif ferent sectors (academia, government, industry) of member countries of NATO. Some scientific leaders and experts on the subject matter from the non-NATO countries were also invited. They convened to discuss the state-of-the-art in two-phase flow and heat transfer and formulated recommendations for future research directions. To achieve these goals, invited key papers and a limited number of contributions were presented and discussed. The specific aspects of the subject were treated in depth in the panel sessions, and the unresolved problems identified. Suitable as a practical reference, these volumes incorporate a systematic approach to two-phase flow analysis.

Book Contribution to the Theory of Two phase One component Critical Flow

Download or read book Contribution to the Theory of Two phase One component Critical Flow written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page pages. Sonic velocities are not achieved in critical two-phase flow of steam--water mixtures. Therefore, the phenomenon of two-phase critical flow differs significantly from that of single-phase critical flow. A new theory has been postulated in an effort to explain the mechanism of two-phase critical flow. The geometry of the system to be investigated has apparently no effect on the critical-flow phenomenon for the diameters and lengths of pipes used in this work. The experimental data obtained compare favorably with previous investigations in the range of variables where such a comparison is possible. The Homogeneous Flow Model'' is found to be unsatisfactory for all critical throat pressures and qualities examined. The assumption of no slip between the phases, therefore, can be said to be definitely incorrect. Since the theory presented describes the critical phenomenon satisfactorily for all pressures and qualities examined so far, and no parameters depending on experimental values are needed, the theory is believed to be highly valuable in determining the maximum discharge of steam--water mixtures from conduits and breaks'' in vessels and pipes. The applications are subjects of considerable concern in the evaluation of nuclear reactor accidents and containmen among others. (auth).

Book Review of Critical Flow Rate Propagation of Pressure Pulse and Sonic Velocity in Two phase Media

Download or read book Review of Critical Flow Rate Propagation of Pressure Pulse and Sonic Velocity in Two phase Media written by Yih-Yun Hsu and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For single-phase media, the critical discharge velocity, the sonic velocity, and the pressure pulse propagation velocity can be expressed in the same form by assuming isentropic, equilibria processes. In two-phase mixtures, the same concept is not valid due to the existence of interfacial transports of momentum, heat, and mass. Thus, the three velocities should be treated differently and separately for each particular condition, taking into account the various transport processes involved under that condition. This report reviews various attempts to predict the critical discharge rate or the propagation velocities by considering slip ratio (momentum change), evaporation (mass and heat transport), flow pattern, etc. Experimental data were compared with predictions based on various theorems. The importance is stressed of the time required to achieve equilibrium as compared with the time available during the process, for example, of passing a pressure pulse.

Book Two phase Critical Flow with Application to Liquid metal Systems

Download or read book Two phase Critical Flow with Application to Liquid metal Systems written by Hans K. Fauske and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is shown that the critical flow rates for liquid-metal systems calculated from the best model describing steam-water data are considerably higher in the low-quality region than predicted from a so-called ''homogeneous flow model.'' This is explained by the large slippage between the liquid and the vapor phases, because the ratio of the densities of the liquid state to the vapor state is usually large for metallic fluids.
