Book excerpt: Cette étude est relative au comportement mécanique et structural d'alliages austénitiques fer-nickel-carbone et au rôle qu'une hydrogénation cathodique peut avoir sur les propriétés de ces alliages. Les caractéristiques électrochimiques de ces alliages ont été étudiées sous polarisation cathodique au cours de l'électrolyse de l'eau injectée dans un bain de sels fondus. Les conditions optimales de chargement potentiostatique sont 2,05 v/ag et 300c, assurant ainsi une concentration superficielle assez importante en hydrogène et une surface non endommagée. Cette concentration, ainsi que les profils de concentration dans l'austénite ont été déterminés d'après les quantités d'hydrogène extraites des éprouvettes de différents diamètres, après électrolyse pendant des durées égales a 5, 9, 16 et 20 heures. Une relation linéaire a été établie entre la concentration en hydrogène et le pourcentage d'austénite résiduelle. Une concentration critique provoque la création de microfissures dans la martensite. Le comportement de l'hydrogène dans l'austénite est analyse en considérant le rôle de pièges tels que les joints de grains et les dislocations, et en montrant que ceux-ci jouent un rôle négligeable. Les propriétés mécaniques de différents alliages Fe-ni-c sont étudiées en considérant trois états austénitiques: après trempe à l'eau (comme référence), après chargement cathodique en hydrogène à 300°C, ou après traitement thermique sous argon à la même température. Ainsi, des courbes rationnelles de traction ont été établies. Ces courbes se décomposent en deux ou trois segments de droite mettant en évidence de un à trois stades suivant les teneurs en carbone, caractérises par des valeurs de la pente k#2 plus élevées pour les grandes déformations. Pour les teneurs en carbone supérieures à 0,20%, cette augmentation de la pente est due a la martensite induite par déformation. Par ailleurs, un effet trip limite aux teneurs moyennes en carbone est observe. De plus les courbes de traction montrent des instabilités; leur apparition est en rapport avec l'effet Plc et l'effet de la transformation martensitique. Pour de basses teneurs en carbone l'effet de l'hydrogène sur l'austénite initiale est négligeable, mais aux teneurs en carbone plus élevées, la fragilisation et la fissuration de la martensite induite par déformation sont immédiates
