Experiments were continued for a total exposure time up to 3 1/2 months. It was found that corrosion is negligible under the conditions of the experiments. No visual differences were observed between those surfaces exposed to the gaseous phase only and those exposed to both the liquid and the gaseous phases.

Book excerpt: Il est couramment admis que la corrosion des armatures démarre lorsque la teneur en chlorures a atteint une certaine valeur appelée seuil critique en chlorures (Ccrit). Cette variable dépend d'un grand nombre de paramètres et en particulier de la méthode mise en œuvre pour sa détermination. Actuellement, aucune procédure de détermination de la valeur de Ccrit n'a été admise et chaque laboratoire utilise sa propre méthode de détermination. Une partie de ce travail a donc porté sur la mise en place d'une méthode de détermination de la valeur de Ccrit. Cette première campagne d'essai a été effectuée avec des bétons avec ciment Portland en utilisant deux procédures de détermination de la valeur de Ccrit. La pénétration des chlorures a été accélérée par séchage partiel sur l'épaisseur d'enrobage et l'amorçage de la corrosion a été déterminé par une chute de potentiel. En complément des mesures de potentiels de l'acier, des essais de polarisation ont également été effectués. En outre, plusieurs paramètres d'essai ont été étudiés sur la base des deux procédures mises en œuvre. Il a été mis en évidence que ces derniers avaient une influence sur le temps nécessaire pour obtenir une chute de potentiel (durée d'essai). Il a été conclu qu'un séchage en humidité relative et la procédure de pré-corrosion des aciers induisaient des durées d'essai importantes. A l'inverse lorsqu'un séchage en étuve est appliqué avec des aciers tels que reçus, la durée d'essai est considérablement réduite et les résultats sont obtenus dans un délai raisonnable. Cependant, un séchage en température est plus éloigné de la réalité et l'irrégularité du front de chlorures pourrait nuire à la fiabilité des résultats obtenus. Un certain nombre de critères d'acceptation de l'essai ont pu être définis : - une valeur initiale de potentiel minimale dans les premiers jours après immersion dans la solution saline, - un temps minimal pour obtenir la chute de potentiel, - un temps d'attente maximal après détection de l'amorçage..., Ces derniers visent, essentiellement, à limiter la dispersion associée à la procédure afin de rendre compte uniquement de la résistance associée au couple acier/béton. L'utilisation d'additions minérales, telles que les laitiers de hauts fourneaux, en substitution du ciment est devenue une pratique courante ces dernières années, en particulier pour les structures exposées à un environnement agressif en raison de leurs nombreux avantages tel que l'amélioration des résistances mécaniques, la résistance aux agressions chimiques, la faible chaleur d'hydratation, en comparaison avec un ciment Portland. Après avoir été mise en place, la procédure a ensuite été appliquée à des bétons avec différents taux de substitution en laitier et il a été constaté que les critères de détection de l'amorçage de la corrosion définis dans le cas de la formulation avec ciment Portland (chute de potentiel de 150mV, valeur de Rp de 200kohms.cm2 en fin d'essai) n'étaient plus envisageables pour les formulations avec un taux de substitution important. Les principales différences sont : des valeurs de potentiels très négatives (entre -600 et -700mV/SCE) et constantes avec la durée d'immersion (absence de chute de potentiel) et des valeurs de Rp faibles (plus faibles que celles mesurées dans le cas de la formulation après amorçage de la corrosion) y compris en l'absence de chlorures et de traces de corrosion en fin d'essai. Les essais en solution et les premiers résultats obtenus sur les bétons avec additions pouzzolaniques ont permis de confirmer la participation des sulfures dans le processus de corrosion. Ces derniers permettraient d'expliquer notamment les plus faibles valeurs de potentiels obtenues. Le mécanisme précis par lequel les sulfures influencent le comportement électrochimique des aciers reste à déterminer.

Book excerpt: La corrosion des échangeurs de chaleur est un problème économique et technique majeur des Unités de Valorisation Energétique de Ordures Ménagères (UVEOM). Elle est causée par l'action combinée (i) des gaz de combustion contenant notamment HCl et SO2 et (ii) des cendres riches en chlorures et sulfates alcalins, et sels de métaux lourds. Les travaux présentés dans ce mémoire s'inscrivent dans le projet ANR SCAPAC (n°11-RMNP-0016) et portent sur l'influence des paramètres expérimentaux (température, teneur en chlorures dans les cendres, présence de gaz corrosifs et présence de chlorures de métaux lourds dans les cendres) sur la tenue à la corrosion de deux alliages utilisés en milieu UVEOM : l'acier 16Mo3 et l'alliage base nickel Inconel 625. Ces travaux ont permis de mettre en évidence que la présence de phases fondues, l'augmentation de la teneur en chlorures, la présence de 10% en masse de ZnCl2 dans les mélanges de cendres et la présence de gaz corrosifs (HCl, SO2) dans l'atmosphère sont trois facteurs qui ont induit une corrosion plus importante sur les matériaux, de manière plus prononcée sur l'alliage base fer. Une autre partie du travail s'est focalisée sur l'influence des éléments d'alliage Fe, Cr et Mo. Des alliages « modèles » dont les compositions oscillent autour de la composition de l'alliage Inconel 625 commercial ont été synthétisés par fusion haute fréquence et leur tenue à la corrosion a été évaluée sous air et sous atmosphère corrosive. La bonne optimisation de l'alliage commercial a ainsi été démontrée sous air. Sous atmosphère gaz corrosifs, une teneur en chrome supérieure à 22% massique s'est montrée indispensable à la bonne tenue de l'alliage.

Besides a common macroscopic (continuum) description the microscopic theory of flexoelectricity is also addressed.
