Notre but était d'abord d'obtenir des résultats expérimentaux sûrs, à l'abri des phénomènes perturbateurs reconnus dans la première réaction. Parmi ceux-ci, le plus important est l'apparition au-dessus de 1900°K, de décharges électriques, initiées par l'émission thermoélectrique du filament, et dont on a essayé de préciser le mécanisme de l'effet accélérateur. On a trouvé qu'en réalité L. Meyer n'avait étudié les réactions avec le gaz carbonique et la vapeur d'eau que dans des conditions perturbées par les effets de décharge. Il en résulte que nos résultats sont entièrement différents des siens. On a également reconnu aux températures les plus basses l'existence d'une contamination de la surface par des produits de désorption de l'appareil. Nous avons ensuite recherché si les deux réactions étudiées présentaient certains caractères très particuliers et originaux trouvés par X. Duval dans la réaction avec l'oxygène.
