Elle a pour but de définir le rôle des propriétés des végétaux sur leur combustion et de proposer un modèle d'oxydation en phase gazeuse suffisamment simple pour servir de point de départ à un modèle de propagation. Les espèces végétales sont broyées pour limiter l'influence du rapport surface-volume sur leur comportement au feu. La combustion de ces broyats engendre des flammes laminaires. L'étude expérimentale comprend la caractérisation des propriétés thermophysiques et physico-chimiques des combustibles, l'analyse des gaz de dégradation et la détermination du comportement des phases solide et gazeuse et de leur couplage. Dans l'étude numérique, différents mécanismes squelettiques et globaux sont testés afin de définir un modèle simple d'oxydation des gaz de dégradation. Ce modèle est appliqué aux flammes de combustibles végétaux.

The Technical Evaluation Report and and Addendum are included at the beginning of the Proceedings. Questions and answers of the discussions follow each paper. The last AGARD review on the subject took place in a Specialists' Meeting in 1975, followed by a Working Group Report in 1979 and Lecture Series in 1982. The purpose of the Symposium was a review of the present state-of-the-art and of the last improvements. Although the safety standards in aviation are already very high, there is still room for improvements. They are listed in the Conclusions and Recommendations of the Technical Evaluation Report and in the Addendum.
