Book Artificial Intelligence in Industrial Decision Making Control and Automation

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence in Industrial Decision Making Control and Automation written by S.G. Tzafestas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 778 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with Artificial Intelligence (AI) concepts and techniques as applied to industrial decision making, control and automation problems. The field of AI has been expanded enormously during the last years due to that solid theoretical and application results have accumulated. During the first stage of AI development most workers in the field were content with illustrations showing ideas at work on simple problems. Later, as the field matured, emphasis was turned to demonstrations that showed the capability of AI techniques to handle problems of practical value. Now, we arrived at the stage where researchers and practitioners are actually building AI systems that face real-world and industrial problems. This volume provides a set of twenty four well-selected contributions that deal with the application of AI to such real-life and industrial problems. These contributions are grouped and presented in five parts as follows: Part 1: General Issues Part 2: Intelligent Systems Part 3: Neural Networks in Modelling, Control and Scheduling Part 4: System Diagnostics Part 5: Industrial Robotic, Manufacturing and Organizational Systems Part 1 involves four chapters providing background material and dealing with general issues such as the conceptual integration of qualitative and quantitative models, the treatment of timing problems at system integration, and the investigation of correct reasoning in interactive man-robot systems.

Book Advanced Information Processing in Automatic Control AIPAC 89

Download or read book Advanced Information Processing in Automatic Control AIPAC 89 written by R. Husson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information Processing is a key area of research and development and the symposium presented state-of-the-art reports on some of the areas which are of relevance in automatic control: fault diagnosis and system reliability. Papers also covered the role of expert systems and other knowledge based systems, which are needed, to cope with the vast quantities of data generated by large scale systems. This volume should be considered essential reading for anyone involved in this rapidly developing area.

Book Control of Industrial Systems

Download or read book Control of Industrial Systems written by and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1997 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The IFAC Conference on Control of Industrial Systems (CIS'97) was organized by the Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs. It was devoted to 'Control for the Future of the Youth' and linked the control science with the control engineering in the framework of industrial systems control. The wide diversity of topics, high quality, theoretical impact and applications of contributed results acknowledged the following: . Control, which is mainly automatic today, is the brain of every industrial system . Industrial systems automatic control necessitates a permanent interaction between systems and control science, and control engineering . Automatics is a self-contained and complete scientific and engineering discipline on automatic control, and as such, it has been interacting with almost all other scientific, engineering and social areas . Automatic control implies new job forms and qualifications, thus representing the area of the widely growing research and professional possibilities for pacific contributions to the well-being of humanity . Automatics is one of the most perspective disciplines open to young engineers and scientists.

Book The Quest for Relevant Air Power

Download or read book The Quest for Relevant Air Power written by Christian F. Anrig and published by . This book was released on 2012-05-01 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Examines the air power experience of a selected range of European countries since the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Gulf War of 1991. The study offers an assessment of key issues influencing the evolution of air power in continental Europe. Amongst the main challenges are deployed operations, the intellectual grasp of air power doctrine, and the imbalance between combat aircraft and force enablers. Regarding the latter, the development of common capabilities that are equally available to both NATO and the European Union is crucial."--P. [4] of cover.

Book The World Yearbook of Robotics Research and Development

Download or read book The World Yearbook of Robotics Research and Development written by Sbornik Statei and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How quickly the technological 'flavour of the month' changes. At the beginning of the 1980's many saw 'robotics' as being something of a pana cea for those problems in the manufacturing industries which had been exacerbated by the world recession. Those working at the time in the field of robotics stressed that robots themselves were only part of the solution. Yet in many quarters the 'hype' for the new technology apparently knew few bounds, resulting, inexorably, in many industries painfully discover ing for themselves a new realism, closely followed by disillusionment. In its wider sense the term 'robotics' covers an extremely broad spec trum of technologies ranging from extremely flexible, highly sensory and integrated systems capable of handling a very diverse product range, through to comparatively inflexible, high volume systems which can merely handle slightly different variations of the same basic product. As a result of the one 'buzzword' referring to such a variety of actual system types, the disillusionment which started to become apparent during the early 1980's acted as something of a double edged sword. A given com pany might consider a particular robotics-based technological solution to its production problems, find that it was unsuitable, and so renounce all robotics approaches as inappropriate. Yet just because one position on that spectrum of technological solutions was unsuitable for the company should not have led them to assume that there was no other robotics solu tion that was appropriate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neural networks represent a powerful data processing technique that has reached maturity and broad application. When clearly understood and appropriately used, they are a mandatory component in the toolbox of any engineer who wants make the best use of the available data, in order to build models, make predictions, mine data, recognize shapes or signals, etc. Ranging from theoretical foundations to real-life applications, this book is intended to provide engineers and researchers with clear methodologies for taking advantage of neural networks in industrial, financial or banking applications, many instances of which are presented in the book. For the benefit of readers wishing to gain deeper knowledge of the topics, the book features appendices that provide theoretical details for greater insight, and algorithmic details for efficient programming and implementation. The chapters have been written by experts and edited to present a coherent and comprehensive, yet not redundant, practically oriented introduction.

Book Conscripts and Deserters

Download or read book Conscripts and Deserters written by Alan I. Forrest and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1989 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between the outbreak of war with Austria in 1792 and Napoleon's final debacle in 1814, France remained almost continously at war, recruiting in the process some two to three million frenchmen--a level of recruitment unknown to previous generations and widely resented as an attack on the liberties of rural communities. Forrest challenges the notion of a nation heroically rushing to arms by examining the massive rates of desertion and avoidance of service as well as their consequences on French society--on military campaigns and the morale of armies, on political opinion at home, on the social fabric of local villages, and on the Napoleonic dream of bringing about a coherent and centralized state.
