Abraham was justified both by faith and by works (James 2:24, 26). To “justify” means either to be in right moral standing or to show that one is (morally) in right standing. Abraham was justified by faith before God since God knows all things — including Abraham’s faith (James 2:23). God sees our hearts (1 Samuel 16:7), so we are justified before God by our faith alone, which God can see. But men cannot see another man’s faith. They only see the outward works that follow from inward faith. Therefore, Abraham was justified before men by the works that followed from his faith, since men cannot see faith but can see works. James explicitly teaches this (James 2:18–26).

This collection of essays examines social contradictions in the age of globalization in which old antagonisms often appear to be overcome, and new cracks are emerging in the facade of capitalist progress. Who carried Jesus' cross: Simon, as reported in the Gospel of Luke, or Jesus, as reported in the Gospel of John? Did a centurion plead with Jesus to heal his servant, as Matthew reports, or did he send elders of the Jews to plead with Jesus, as Luke reports? Did 40,000 horsemen die in battle with David, as 2 Samuel reports, or did 40,000 foot soldiers die, as 1 Chronicles reports? Did both thieves mock Jesus on the cross, as narrated by the Gospel of Matthew, or did only one thief mock him, as narrated by the Gospel of Mark? Many students of the Bible, upon reading these passages, throw their hands up in frustration and conclude that the Bible cannot be divinely inspired. Some Christians, unable to explain these difficulties, walk away from the faith. Muslims and Mormons use the apparent contradictions of the Bible to support their claims that the Bible, in its current form, is a corruption of the original message of God. Now there is a response to these claims. This book defends the divine inspiration of the Bible and demonstrates with clarity that the so-called "contradictions" of the Bible are not contradictions at all. A careful study of the Scriptures in their original context and in light of the nuances in which they were originally written vindicates the Bible from claims of errancy. Throughout the history of the Christian church, heretics, apophatics, mystics, atheists, and many others have long proclaimed that the doctrine of the trinity - one of the central doctrines of the Christian faith - is contradictory. In this work, Beall agrees; however, as Beall convincingly argues, one needn't abandon orthodoxy, play language games, inflate one's metaphysics, nor abandon the standard faith in the face of such divine contradiction. Instead, one can accept central axioms of the trinity at face value and, with a suitable account of logical entailment, accept the 'contradictory truths' thereby entailed. With the clarity and precision that only a logician could provide, Beall provided theology and the Christian church in general with a very simple and viable (and arguably correct) model of divine reality. Unlike the vast number of theologians and philosophers before him, Beall rejects the quest for a logically consistent account of divine reality. The triune god (viz., God) is truly and fully described only via contradiction. As such, attempts to remove the contradiction are attempts to remove truths of God.
