Book Equilibrium Problems Nonsmooth Optimization and Variational Inequality Models

Download or read book Equilibrium Problems Nonsmooth Optimization and Variational Inequality Models written by F. Giannessi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of the book is to cover the three fundamental aspects of research in equilibrium problems: the statement problem and its formulation using mainly variational methods, its theoretical solution by means of classical and new variational tools, the calculus of solutions and applications in concrete cases. The book shows how many equilibrium problems follow a general law (the so-called user equilibrium condition). Such law allows us to express the problem in terms of variational inequalities. Variational inequalities provide a powerful methodology, by which existence and calculation of the solution can be obtained.

Book Generalized Convexity Nonsmooth Variational Inequalities and Nonsmooth Optimization

Download or read book Generalized Convexity Nonsmooth Variational Inequalities and Nonsmooth Optimization written by Qamrul Hasan Ansari and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-07-18 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until now, no book addressed convexity, monotonicity, and variational inequalities together. Generalized Convexity, Nonsmooth Variational Inequalities, and Nonsmooth Optimization covers all three topics, including new variational inequality problems defined by a bifunction. The first part of the book focuses on generalized convexity and generalized monotonicity. The authors investigate convexity and generalized convexity for both the differentiable and nondifferentiable case. For the nondifferentiable case, they introduce the concepts in terms of a bifunction and the Clarke subdifferential. The second part offers insight into variational inequalities and optimization problems in smooth as well as nonsmooth settings. The book discusses existence and uniqueness criteria for a variational inequality, the gap function associated with it, and numerical methods to solve it. It also examines characterizations of a solution set of an optimization problem and explores variational inequalities defined by a bifunction and set-valued version given in terms of the Clarke subdifferential. Integrating results on convexity, monotonicity, and variational inequalities into one unified source, this book deepens your understanding of various classes of problems, such as systems of nonlinear equations, optimization problems, complementarity problems, and fixed-point problems. The book shows how variational inequality theory not only serves as a tool for formulating a variety of equilibrium problems, but also provides algorithms for computational purposes.

Book Vector Variational Inequalities and Vector Optimization

Download or read book Vector Variational Inequalities and Vector Optimization written by Qamrul Hasan Ansari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the mathematical theory of vector variational inequalities and their relations with vector optimization problems. It is the first-ever book to introduce well-posedness and sensitivity analysis for vector equilibrium problems. The first chapter provides basic notations and results from the areas of convex analysis, functional analysis, set-valued analysis and fixed-point theory for set-valued maps, as well as a brief introduction to variational inequalities and equilibrium problems. Chapter 2 presents an overview of analysis over cones, including continuity and convexity of vector-valued functions. The book then shifts its focus to solution concepts and classical methods in vector optimization. It describes the formulation of vector variational inequalities and their applications to vector optimization, followed by separate chapters on linear scalarization, nonsmooth and generalized vector variational inequalities. Lastly, the book introduces readers to vector equilibrium problems and generalized vector equilibrium problems. Written in an illustrative and reader-friendly way, the book offers a valuable resource for all researchers whose work involves optimization and vector optimization.

Book Nonlinear Programming and Variational Inequality Problems

Download or read book Nonlinear Programming and Variational Inequality Problems written by Michael Patriksson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since I started working in the area of nonlinear programming and, later on, variational inequality problems, I have frequently been surprised to find that many algorithms, however scattered in numerous journals, monographs and books, and described rather differently, are closely related to each other. This book is meant to help the reader understand and relate algorithms to each other in some intuitive fashion, and represents, in this respect, a consolidation of the field. The framework of algorithms presented in this book is called Cost Approxi mation. (The preface of the Ph.D. thesis [Pat93d] explains the background to the work that lead to the thesis, and ultimately to this book.) It describes, for a given formulation of a variational inequality or nonlinear programming problem, an algorithm by means of approximating mappings and problems, a principle for the update of the iteration points, and a merit function which guides and monitors the convergence of the algorithm. One purpose of this book is to offer this framework as an intuitively appeal ing tool for describing an algorithm. One of the advantages of the framework, or any reasonable framework for that matter, is that two algorithms may be easily related and compared through its use. This framework is particular in that it covers a vast number of methods, while still being fairly detailed; the level of abstraction is in fact the same as that of the original problem statement.

Book Combined Relaxation Methods for Variational Inequalities

Download or read book Combined Relaxation Methods for Variational Inequalities written by Igor Konnov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Variational inequalities proved to be a very useful and powerful tool for in vestigation and solution of many equilibrium type problems in Economics, Engineering, Operations Research and Mathematical Physics. In fact, varia tional inequalities for example provide a unifying framework for the study of such diverse problems as boundary value problems, price equilibrium prob lems and traffic network equilibrium problems. Besides, they are closely re lated with many general problems of Nonlinear Analysis, such as fixed point, optimization and complementarity problems. As a result, the theory and so lution methods for variational inequalities have been studied extensively, and considerable advances have been made in these areas. This book is devoted to a new general approach to constructing solution methods for variational inequalities, which was called the combined relax ation (CR) approach. This approach is based on combining, modifying and generalizing ideas contained in various relaxation methods. In fact, each com bined relaxation method has a two-level structure, i.e., a descent direction and a stepsize at each iteration are computed by finite relaxation procedures.

This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semismooth Newton methods are a modern class of remarkably powerful and versatile algorithms for solving constrained optimization problems with partial differential equations (PDEs), variational inequalities, and related problems. This book provides a comprehensive presentation of these methods in function spaces, striking a balance between thoroughly developed theory and numerical applications. Although largely self-contained, the book also covers recent developments in the field, such as state-constrained problems, and offers new material on topics such as improved mesh independence results. The theory and methods are applied to a range of practically important problems, including: optimal control of nonlinear elliptic differential equations, obstacle problems, and flow control of instationary Navier-Stokes fluids. In addition, the author covers adjoint-based derivative computation and the efficient solution of Newton systems by multigrid and preconditioned iterative methods.

Book Vector Variational Inequalities and Vector Equilibria

Download or read book Vector Variational Inequalities and Vector Equilibria written by F. Giannessi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book deals with the mathematical theory of vector variational inequalities with special reference to equilibrium problems. Such models have been introduced recently to study new problems from mechanics, structural engineering, networks, and industrial management, and to revisit old ones. The common feature of these problems is that given by the presence of concurrent objectives and by the difficulty of identifying a global functional (like energy) to be extremized. The vector variational inequalities have the advantage of both the variational ones and vector optimization which are found as special cases. Among several applications, the equilibrium flows on a network receive special attention. Audience: The book is addressed to academic researchers as well as industrial ones, in the fields of mathematics, engineering, mathematical programming, control theory, operations research, computer science, and economics.
