Book Continuing History of the Church of God

Download or read book Continuing History of the Church of God written by Bob Thiel Ph D and published by Nazarene Books, Division of Doctors' Research Incorporated. This book was released on 2019-09-13 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation mentions a continuing group of seven churches that are Christian, plus an eighth (including her daughters) that is part of the synagogue of Satan. Do you know how the Bible and church history points out the differences between true and false churches? There are many churches that claim to be Christian, yet they often disagree on major points of doctrine. Where is the true Christian church today that kept the original faith? What would it look like? What has it looked like throughout history?Do you really know? Who changed doctrine? Who continued with the faith once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3)? Could the small (by worldly standards) Continuing Church of God currently be the most faithful remnant of the Philadelphia portion of the true church (Revelation 3:7-13)? If so, how might its existence impact the 21st century? All who wish to truly be faithful Christians really need to know what happened to the church that Jesus founded.

He tackles the tough issues in an attempt to expose how the opposition is misunderstanding the Scriptures and history. He uses many Protestant scholars and historians to support the Catholic position. • ISBN : 0385505450
  • Pages : 290 pages

Download or read book Models of the Church written by Avery Dulles and published by Image. This book was released on 2002-05-14 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is today a dramatic reexamination of structure, authority, dogma -- indeed, every aspect of the life of the Church is held up to scrutiny. Welcoming this as a sign of vitality, Avery Dulles has carefully studied the writings of contemporary Protestant and Catholic ecclesiologists and sifted out six major approaches, or "models," through which the Church's character can be understood: as Institution, Mystical Communion, Sacrament, Herald, Servant, and, in a recent addition to the book, as Community of Disciples. A balanced theology, he concludes, must incorporate the major affirmations of each. "The method of models or types," observes Cardinal Dulles, "can have great value in helping people to get beyond the limitations of their own particular outlook and to enter into fruitful conversation with others... Such conversation is obviously essential if ecumenism is to get beyond its present impasses." This new edition includes a new Appendix and Preface by the author.

Book Does God Need the Church

Download or read book Does God Need the Church written by Gerhard Lohfink and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2014-12-16 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are not all religions equally close to and equally far from God? Why, then, the Church? Gerhard Lohfink poses these questions with scholarly reliability and on the basis of his own experience of community in Does God Need the Church? In 1982 Father Lohfink wrote Wie hat Jesus Gemeinde gewollt? (translated into English as Jesus and Community) to show, on the basis of the New Testament, that faith is founded in a community that distinguishes itself in clear contours from the rest of society. In that book he also described a sequence of events that moved directly from commonality to a community that was readily accessible to every group of people and was made legitimate by Jesus himself. Only later did Father Lohfink learn, within a new horizon of experience, that such a description is not the way to community. The story of the gathering of the people of God, from Abraham until today, never took place according to such a model. Today Father Lohfink states that he would not write Wie hat Jesus Gemeinde gewollt? the same way. The situation of belief and believers has undergone a shift: the question of the Church has become much more urgent. Church life is declining and the religions are returning, often in new guises. In light of these shifts and the change in his own view of community, Father Lohfink inquires in Does God Need the Church? of Israel's theology, Jesus' praxis, the experiences of the early Christian communities, and of what is appearing in the Church today. These inquiries lead to an amazing history involving God and the world - a history that God presses forward with the aid of a single people and that always turns out differently from what they think and plan.

Book The Early Church

    Book Details:
  • Author : Henry Chadwick
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 1967
  • ISBN : 9780880290777
  • Pages : 304 pages

Download or read book The Early Church written by Henry Chadwick and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chadwickʹs Early Church covers, as the book cover suggests, "the story of emergent Christianity from the apostolic age to the dividing of the ways between the Greek East and the Latin West." The story unfolds with the Jewish and Roman background within which the beginning church was nourished. It then goes on to show how important it is for the church to establish order and unity amidst threats of persecution and heresy. The emergence of apologists helps not only the expansion of the church but also the construction of Christian doctrine. At the same time, controversies abound as the church encountered many different cultural and sociological challenges while trying out in reaction a variety of ideas. With chapter seven, the relation between church and state changes, resulting in a stronger influence of the state upon the church while accelerating the split between the Latin West and the Greek East. The Arian controversy shows a period of instability between state and church, and also deepens the split of East and West. But within the turmoil, ascetic practice, papacy, liturgy, and art are established, helping to transmit a common European culture while the Roman Empire begins to degenerate.

Book The Original and True Rheims New Testament of Anno Domini 1582

Download or read book The Original and True Rheims New Testament of Anno Domini 1582 written by William von Peters and published by . This book was released on 2005-08-13 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the original and true Rheims New Testament published by the English College in Rheims in 1582. It has been "lost" for over 400 years due its being in old English. Dr. William G. von Peters has transliterated the text into modern English. Its copious marginal notes and voluminous annotations make it a superb study bible with references from the Apostles, Fathers of the Church and Saints. The Douay Rheims Bible was not produced for sectarian reasons but to present the true Word of God to the English people, and so it is called a "slavish", i.e., literal, translation; rather than one which seeks to sugar coat, gloss over, or hide the real text and meanings. Its copious marginal notes and voluminous annotations explaining the Bible text, make it a superb study bible. It contains references from the Apostles, Fathers of the Church and Saints, giving the text a ready insight into the dogmas and teaching of the Church from the time of Christ to the present.
