Book The Continental Shelf and the Exclusive Economic Zone Le plateau continental et la zone conomique exclusive

Download or read book The Continental Shelf and the Exclusive Economic Zone Le plateau continental et la zone conomique exclusive written by Donat Pharand and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-02-22 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on both the general aspects of two of the most typical institutions introduced by the new Law of the Sea and the specific aspects related to the geographic and economic circumstances of Italy and Canada. It is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the delimitation of maritime boundaries, especially with respect to the continental shelf and the exclusive economic zone. The problem is approached from both a theoretical and a practical point of view, in particular, in analyzing not only the more well-known controversies in delimitation solved by international agreements or by international courts, but also still unsettled disputes in which Italy and Canada are involved. The second part deals with the legal regime of the continental shelf and the exclusive zone and the activities - in particular exploration and exploitation - carried out in them. The same approach as in Part One is used in juxtaposing Italian and Canadian views on relative regulation. Indeed, the volume brings together the diverse legal experience of the two countries - Italy and Canada - resulting from the different geographic, political and economic conditions found in each. It is enough to think that Italy is surrounded on three sides by a closed or semiclosed sea, the Mediterranean, while Canada borders on the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic Oceans. The volume was financed by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and edited by Donat Pharand, Professor Emiritus of International Law at the University of Ottawa, and Umberto Leanza, Full Professor of International Law at the University of Rome, 'Tor Vergata'.

Book Continental Shelves of the World

Download or read book Continental Shelves of the World written by F.L. Chiocci and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2014-11-06 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world's continental shelves are the sites of vast resources of food, energy and minerals, the exploitation of which is continuously increasing. Fluctuating global sea levels throughout the Quaternary period produced multiple transgressive and regressive cycles that profoundly affected and shaped these shelves. The complex interactions among climate, sea level, tectonics, oceanography and sediment input have formed distinctive sediment packages on each shelf and provide a guide to the interpretation of older shelf sequences throughout the geological record. This Memoir compiles studies on 23 selected shelves from all the continents, focusing on their evolution and examining the patterns of sedimentation during the past approximately 125 000 years. In addition to providing basic background information for each area, the chapters consider specific aspects of continental shelf research, from seismic stratigraphy to geomorphology, from palaeoceanography to palaeo sea-level reconstruction and from palaeontology to geochemistry.

Book The Australian Continent

Download or read book The Australian Continent written by Brian Kennett and published by ANU Press. This book was released on 2018-08-29 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Australian Continent: A Geophysical Synthesis is designed to provide a summary of the character of the Australian continent through the extensive information available at the continental scale, as a contribution to the understanding of Australia's lithospheric architecture and its evolution. The results build on the extensive databases assembled at Geoscience Australia, particularly for potential fields, supplemented by the full range of seismological information, mostly from The Australian National University. To aid in cross comparison of results from different disciplines, information is presented with a common projection and scales.
