Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many people really know all the capitals of Europe? You would think this was relatively easy but the map of Europe has changed many times throughout history, even in recent times. I have opted to include all the UK capitals and capitals of countries in more than one continent, i.e. Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia, all of which are countries which span Europe and Asia. This means that this book covers 54 countries and capitals. That's more countries than most people realise are in Europe. This book is available in two formats, Kindle and a glossy softback. If you have the Kindle version you can either navigate by going from page to page or you can choose any page from the Contents page and then return to the Contents page in the normal way you do on your device. If you have the glossy softback you can flick through it in much the same way but I have left plenty of room on each page so that if you want it could be used as a project book, with information written in, doodles and drawings included, and/or pictures stuck in. This would make a great project book.

Book Cities for a Small Continent

Download or read book Cities for a Small Continent written by Power, Anne and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2016-05-25 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This original book builds on the author’s research in Phoenix cities to present a vivid story of Europe’s post-industrial cities pre- and post- financial crisis. Using varied case studies the book explores how policy responses to the economic crisis have played out in different European cities, with their contrasting conditions, history and performance generating contrasting reactions. The book compares changes between Northern and Southern European countries, bigger and smaller cities, over the past ten years. Across the continent social cohesion, community investment and social enterprise have gained momentum as Europe’s crowded, resource-constrained cities face up to environmental and social limits faster than other less densely urban countries, such as the US. The author presents a compelling framework to show that Europe’s cities are creating a new industrial economy to combat environmental and social unravelling.

Book Cities in Contemporary Europe

Download or read book Cities in Contemporary Europe written by Arnaldo Bagnasco and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-05-11 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: European cities are at the centre of social, political and economic changes in Western Europe. This book proposes a new research agenda in urban sociology and politics applying primarily to European cities, in particular those that together make up the urban structure of Europe: a fabric of older cities of over 100,000 inhabitants, regional capitals and smaller state capitals. The contributors develop an analytical framework which views cities as local societies, and as collective factors and site for modes of governance. The three parts of the book examine the economics of cities, the social structures, and the modes and processes of governance. Each chapter comprises a comparison across several countries and examines critically the book's central theoretical perspective. This is not a book about the making of a Europe of cities but rather about how some cities can take advantage of their changing global and European environment.

  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book Touring Around Europe written by Brent Solinas and published by . This book was released on 2021-05-14 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. It comprises the westernmost peninsulas of the continental landmass of Eurasia and is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and Asia to the east. Europe is commonly considered to be separated from Asia by the watershed of the Ural Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian Sea, the Greater Caucasus, the Black Sea, and the waterways of the Turkish Straits. Although much of this border is over land, Europe is generally accorded the status of a full continent because of its great physical size and the weight of its history and traditions. This book includes ten sketches of European cities, each of which has contributed something to the ferment, the still dangerous brew of European civilization. Each will have something, even if only a distinct and rich way of life of its own, to contribute in the future. Each essay reflects upon what moves and intrigues the author about the history, literature, politics, past, and future of the city and the flavor of its way of life. Together they are intended to paint an original portrait of the old and the new Europe. Buy now.
